Tom T. Hall – Mama's Got the Catfish Blues Lyrics 1 year ago
The lyric in the chorus is “she treats me like I want her to treat.” A little easier to understand in Charlie Sizemore’s recording. Tom T. is on the cover of the album with Charlie, so I reckon he has it right. ;-)

As for meaning, I guess mama’s is tired of him fishing and drinking and not bringing home any fish… been my experience anyway.

@[PHR:41581] Hard to beat GL, didn’t know he recorded it before Janis. It is a great song.

Kris Kristofferson – Why Me Lyrics 13 years ago
I heard that after a playing a show, Kris was asked to stick around and play a Gospel show later that night. He realized that he didn't have a Gospel song and wrote this in his dressing room. Not really a "Gospel" song by definition, but certainly inspired and spiritual. And, yes, powerful.

Kris Kristofferson – To Beat The Devil Lyrics 13 years ago
Great lesson, don't let the devil squash your dreams. Kris had become quite poor after a series of life events. A voice like his make it in the music business? The devil certainly didn't beat him.

Kris Kristofferson – Shandy (The Perfect Disguise) Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this is a song about the Helter Kelter stuff going on in the late '60s and early '70s. Truth is the perfect disguise, worked for the Son of Sam guy...not so much for Charles Manson.

Kris Kristofferson – The Silver-Tongued Devil and I Lyrics 13 years ago
One of my favorites...and a great explanation. I think the lack of comments is because Kris seldom leaves you wondering about what his songs are about.

Kris Kristofferson – The Pilgrim: Chapter 33 (Hang In, Hopper) Lyrics 13 years ago
This song is about the musician lifestyle. Norman Norbert, Donnie Frits, Billy Swann all played in Kris's 1970s band. Paul Siebel was a Dylanesque singer/songwriter who quit music after his third album, his best known song is
"Louise" covered by Bonnie Raitt.
