For me, it's about someone who is in love with another one, who isn't in love with the first person. As you can hear, the music just flows to the climax, which is the verse: "I saw the light shine out today, And it told me that you're not the one for me". In the end of the music, we can even hear a hint that this verse would be played again, but the music suddenly stops. That happens because that was the point of this music, it was made just to send this message, one time, as it hurts too much to say it more than once. "Can you see it's full of lightning, All the futures that I see are whitening, See the time of yesterday, Become the time that we have today," -I'm not sure, but it seems that he/she is full of energy (lightining), and see all the paths that his life can take. I would risk and say that he/she was in a relationship and now he/she is free and full of energy and hope for the future. He/she wants to compensate the lost time of the relationship, as the time he/she had yesterday became the time that they have today. "Oh I'm looking for a hidden meaning, Can you tell me if it's just a feeling, See the light is shining in your eye's, Is it love in disguise," -It's almost as the person is beginning to see that the other one - which could be a friend or just a random person - is falling for him/her. "Can you hear the ancient calling, See the empires we've built are falling, All we have is the human touch, The clock is ticking even as we rush," -their relationship is ending, their empire is falling, as all they have now is the human touch, and as the clock is ticking, they get more apart. Took a long time to get this one, though. That's my interpretation, feel free to disagree ;) |

I think that's about a person who just wants to escape, get away from the place that he or she is at the present momment. I will note quote so that this post doesn't get enormous. -In the first verse: The person knows the importance of time, how jobs consume that resource, how it makes him bad in the inside (the drifiting part) and how he feels "unfamiliar" at that moment. -In the second (pre-chorus): this person states his will to get away from that place, how that thing doesn't matter to him and his will to get to somewhere more familiar. -Chorus: this persons finally find freedom to do leave that place (it can be either by the use of drugs, like escaping reallity, or travelling to another place) -The third verse is basically about how he has to come back to his reality and how his "escape" have made him stronger. |

| I don't think that's actually a conversation. Your comment about the pre-chours contradicts itself. How can he act like he doesn't care if he desires to get away from that place? There is no dialog in there, it's a one person lyric... | |

Talking about the Demo lyric (which is the one up there in the post /\), it's definitely about the production of the Million Dolar Demo, which made Grohl suffer and feel exactly like the lyrics says. Just search about the making of the "One by One" and you will see. This is awesome: "Stuck in the middle no-ones making a move I'm looking in and I've got nothing to lose" |

I think that Dave made the lyrics in such way that it would be possible for anyone to relate to it. The use of the words is pretty general, and kind of diverges from the complex instrumental and conceptional stuff. In my eyes, it's about a relationship. But it can mean almost anything: Drugs, about the band, about some place. The most underrated Foo Fighters song, no doubt. The intro is so fucking strong and beatiful at the same time. The brigdes comes and goes like the "come back", the ending is just perfect. |

| I actually think that this album is pretty awesome! Underated, in fact. This music prove it. Low, Tired of You, Lonely as You, Overdrive, Halo. Gosh, there isn't one music in this album that isn't awesome. They are just a little similiar if put together, thats the downpoint. | |

I actually thinks that when he sings this: "One more time for the last time One more time for release One more time for the last time Everyone wants to believe" He is reffering to drugs use, or possibly one last chance to love, since it's an usually thing in those cases. This line of interpretation is backed up by this: "Every now and then You're down and out my friend Down and out again Down and out again Down and out again But I'm done with you" Like the ups and down that came from those (Drugs or love). "What would I do? Lonely as you Pleasure or pain I can choose" The singer puts himself in the place of the friend (again, it can also be a lover hiding under the name of "friend"), trying to understand and feel what the other feel, trying to understand the reasons that friend have. You can actually find evidences all over the lyrics, just try and see by this interpretation. |
