Mount Eerie – Voice In Headphones Lyrics 9 years ago
Yes it is about listening to Undo by Bjork!
In his diary "Dawn" there's a chapter where Phil is having a tough time being away from his friends and family and he breaks down while cooking dinner, but Bjorks magic makes its way to his headphones helping him have various epiphanies. In the song he is reciting the chorus of Undo as a prayer and reminder. The little floating head at the door is Bjork coming into the room via headphones and Phil's imagination.

The Microphones – Karl Blau Lyrics 9 years ago
Karl Blau is another musician and a good friend of Phils. This is a fun simple (but beautiful) song with little tints of nostalgia here and there. Phil recalls things Karl has shared with him as he stares off into the endless sea. I love its beach boys vibes!

The Feelies – Loveless Love Lyrics 9 years ago
Fun song to dance to and pretty straight forward in its lyrics. Either the narrator is not here for casual meaningless sex or whoever they're asking isn't.

"Could we be together tonight?
I was raised by a different standards,
And it wouldn't seem right!...
Loveless love
You think it's cool, I think it stinks
Loveless love
You don't care what I think."

Xiu Xiu – Sad Pony Guerrilla Girl Lyrics 9 years ago
I don't think this song is about pedophilia. I mean the narrator is obviously old enough to drive, a child would not be. I do think the narrator is considerably younger than their love interest who I think is of latinx or hispanic background because the song title contains a spanish word "guerrilla" and so does the first line "You say I am loca because I am your girl."
(Loca means young or wild in Spanish).

Personally I think this song is about two women having a sexual relationship. They meet in her car to be intimate then the narrator drops them off to go back to their family and their kids. The narrator is asked to keep the relationship private but they want to tell the whole world. The line about the narrator being dressed up as a boy by their lover makes me think their partner isn't comfortable with their relationship and has to dress the other in more masculine to make it seem more heterosexual. The narrator doesn't care, she is her girl and will protect her from others finding out. She is a sad baby warrior for their lover, as the title can be translated to. (pony because she's young or a baby
guerrilla because she's protecting and fighting for her lover)

The Microphones – I Felt Your Shape Lyrics 11 years ago
Yikes! Most of the interpretations/meanings on here don't do the song justice. I know I won't either but I wan't clarify somethings! Phil is pretty open about the context of most of his songs from this period, specifically this album. Perhaps its unjust to call this a breakup album since it undermines a lot of the themes, but this song is very much about a breakup.

I thought I felt your shape but I was wrong
Really all I felt was falsely strong
I held on tight and closed my eyes
It was dumb I had no sense of your size

Phil thought he understood the person he was in love with, but he didn't. Trite, but there's more.

Going off of other songs he wrote around this time, he really wanted to make it work in his head. He wanted so badly to believe his own idealizations and keep romanticizing despite being aware of the relationship not working. He kept his eyes shut and held onto her tightly.

It was dumb to hold so tight
But last night
On the birthday in the kitchen
My grip was loose my eyes were open

He realizes now that holding onto the toxic relationship with eyes shut was not to best choice...it was dumb in retrospect. But one night he did open his eyes and he stopped gripping onto her to see her for what she really was.

I felt your shape and heard you breathing
I felt the rise and fall of your chest
I felt your fall
Your winter snows
Your gusty blow
Your lava flow
I felt it all
Your starry night
Your lack of light
With limp arms I can feel most of you

With his eyes open, and a loose grip, he saw her for her actual shape. Here he uses beautifully romantic, and heartbreaking imagery to describe what he saw. In the end he saw a lack of light in her. With his lose, limp arms he can actually see what's in front of him.

I hung around your neck independently
And my loss was overwhelmed
By this new depth I don’t think I ever felt

He held onto her still. Independently implies that maybe at this point she might have left him, but he's still attached...even if it's only loosely. He's realizing now that he lost someone he loves and also this beautiful idea of them.

But I don’t know
The nights are cold
And I remember warmth
I could have sworn I wasn’t alone

But now, was he wrong about her? He doesn't know, and can't tell, but what he does know is that nights are cold without her. In the end, he still swears to having known her and been with her, and not just alone with an idealized version of her.

The other longer versions of this song just add the heartbreak even more because they intensify how painful it is to part ways with someone physically and emotionally.

There's no more hugging in the kitchen,
No more pats on the back in the hall.
No more chest on breasty chest behind the curtain.
No more lip on nape of neck in shower stall.
No more cosy gardens or craving curvy hips on my belly.
I'm giving up so I can be free from you.
I'm paying fees so I can sever ties from you.
Let craving call and beg and bawl, and face it tall.
Let my soft skin have more sweet soft air on me.
Let boulders drown.

Beirut – Cliquot Lyrics 13 years ago
Why is everyone here so offended by the thought of a song being about two homosexual lovers? My favorites are the ones that claim they have no problem with gays, but get angry at the idea of it.
Yes, the song can be in different perspectives. But the song is most likely about two male lovers. Owen himself is gay and he wrote the song. It's silly to think that he wrote it from the girls perspective, and not just about two male lovers.

Fiona Apple – Valentine Lyrics 13 years ago
It's clear she likes him. She didn't exactly tell him but she showed him. Which is what she means by "pantomime". But he was interested in someone else, and she knew but she still continued her affections. "A fugitive too dull too flee" She's going to sit back and watch him love someone else. "I've made my peace i'm dead i'm done, I watched you live to have my fun, I root for you, i love you" And so she tells herself because she loves him she will encourage his love for another which is what she means by "I root for you, I love you".

Fionn Regan – Blackwater Child Lyrics 13 years ago
This song is about a break up and the narrator wanting to be let down easily.
"if you don't love me, well, don't shove me
out into the dark without a flashlight or a spark"

He knows it's going to be a sad winter without her.

"any stitches cling like bitches to my arms
for all my charms.
it's gonna be a crooked little winter"

And they're taking their time ending the relationship.
hence the "We'll take our time"
