Björk – Oceanía Lyrics 9 years ago
Now there's several different versions of Medulla that have different track lists. I for myself prefer the one where Oceania directly follows Submarine. It just fits perfectly, like you dive deep with the submarine and there in the depths of the ocean you'll find Oceania.
Seemingly, Björk sees this as a part of the Isobel saga. That's quite interesting though, since the lyrics obviously aren't sung by the character Isobel but by Oceania. I've come to the conclusion that Oceania might be the mother of Isobel - Björk stated that Isobel doesn't have real parents, she just appeared in the woods, like mythological figures do. So maybe Oceania is the goddess that gave birth to her ... just like the ocean gave birth to mankind (and life in general).

Kamelot – Revolution Lyrics 9 years ago
So this seems to be the climax of a story that's told throughout several tracks on the album. The band has said that Haven is not a concept album, but at the same time they confirmed that the songs are connected thematically. I do think that there is some kind of story going on in a couple of the songs, those being:
Insomnia, Citizen Zero, Beautiful Apocalypse, Liar Liar (Wasteland Apocalypse), Here's to the Fall, Revolution
It's some kind of Matrix story. There's people living in a dream world controlled by a machine (Citizen Zero), and also a chosen one (Insomnia) who can stop it. Some people start following him and hope for a better world (Beautiful Apocalypse), but then the hero is caught by the regime and sentenced to death (Liar Liar). The hero thinks about life and death (Here's to the Fall). Then he dies, and with his sacrifice he makes the people wake up and revolt against Citizen Zero ("are you ready for the war").

Kamelot – Sacrimony (Angel of Afterlife) Lyrics 9 years ago
I think I figured it out - "My Confession" is the confession he makes at the cathedral. Silverthorn is the moment he and Robert meet again. "Falling Like the Fahrenheit" is Robert seeing his evil plans completed. After that, the story's gone full-cycle: The protagonist is in prison, while Robert is free but still suffers - that's what "Solitaire" is about. After that, "Prodigal Son" is a conclusion: "Given love or given hate determines everybody's fate in life - be careful what you give."

Kamelot – Veritas Lyrics 9 years ago
The context is the story the band made up for the album. Silverthorn is a concept album about two brothers. They both have part in an accident in which their sister dies, but they decide to keep it a mystery that they are the ones to blame. So they live a lie their whole lives, but as their lives go on, they have to face the concequences.

Kamelot – Abandoned Lyrics 10 years ago
I think there is some other point to this song that noone here has mentioned yet. Apart from being an important song in the Epica + The Black Halo storyline, it can also be interpreted as a song about Jesus dying on the cross. If you watch the "One Cold Winter's Night" DVD, watch out for what Khan is doing at the beginning of this song - he stretches his arms and closes his eyes, just like imagining himself in the situation of Jesus before his death. The lyrics can be interpreted as a portrayal of his last thoughts, feeling abandoned by his father God who made him suffer and die. And if you think further, this can be seen in relation to what Ariel goes through in the storyline. He, too, questions the sense of his life on earth and fails to understand why God would push him through all this pain. He feels just as abandoned as Jesus did - that is the "Black Halo", the crown of thorns, that every human being is damned to bear, the pain of being alive at all.

X Japan – Rose of Pain Lyrics 11 years ago
This seems to be about Elizabeth Bathory, the female pendant to Dracula, if you will. In case you're not familiar with the story, you might just look it up. Basically it's about a countess murdering virgins and bathing in their blood. She believes that this is keeping her from the pains of aging. The story is pretty much all around in metal and inspired bands such as Kamelot, Cradle of Filth or, obviously, Bathory. As for X, I think it really fits to their style - it's about beauty, pain, death, blood, basically everything that defines their music in general. And the song itself is one epic metal symphony.

Queensrÿche – Lady Jane Lyrics 11 years ago
"There's literally nothing to indicate drug use"
Yes, there is!
"Your eyes are wide" / "a scary ride we take" / "your clouds have gone away"
I think it is quite clear. Even though I too think that the song is deeper than that. The point is not drug abuse, but isolation, imo.

Kamelot – Solitaire Lyrics 12 years ago
I've had a hard time figuring out what this song could mean in connection with the story. I always thought that this song sounds like it is written from the perspective of a vampire. Like he is living in the dark and eventually cannot take it anymore, so he lets the sun burn him. Especially if you read these lines: "I won't sustain another day, my love, my darkness. Daylight reflects my starving soul and open wounds for everyone to see."
Then I thought about it once again and noticed that Robert and a vampire are not as different as they might seem on first sight. Robert has spent such a long time in the dark, living with the lies he has created, that he "burns" in the light once he enters it, not literally, though. As Robert takes over the postition of his twin brother without anyone noticing it, he reaches the aimes he has been striving for since years. But once he reached them, he still is not able to be happy, because he still lives a lie.

If you look at it this way, you will also notice that this closes the circle that was begun at the beginning of the album, the song Sacrimony, which obviously portrays the protagonist's suffering in prison. Solitaire, on the other hand, portrayes Robert's suffering in freedom. In the end they both suffer, but the protagonist "sustains", because he has the hope to make up for the things he has done. Robert, on the other hand "won't sustain another day", because his suffering is senseless. Robert is even more hopelessly lost, even though his brother is the one who is jailed.

I hope this makes sense to you.

Nightwish – The Crow, The Owl And The Dove Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this is about someone (well, probably the old composer) who looks back on his love life. He realizes that he didn't look for a woman that would just give him love, or pride etc, but truth and innocence. I think that each bird mentioned here is one love of his life. Each of them was lovely in her own way, but in the end he refused them all, because they couldn't give him truth or innocence, but only love.
I'm not entirely sure, though.

Kamelot – Falling Like the Fahrenheit Lyrics 13 years ago
I believe that this is from Robert's point of view. He kills Aurora and sees his lifework completed. That's why he gets slightly melancholy within the verses.
After "To take what is righteously mine" you can hear "Silverthorn"'s chorus melody played on the cello. I interpret it as Robert playing the melody ("Let me play a melody for you") with his Silverthorn, which kills Aurora.

Kamelot – My Confession Lyrics 13 years ago
I personally think that this is about the protagonist's confession at Alpheus' cathedral. With this, he "betrays" the Veritas-symbol on his chest, because he doesn't want to live the lie anymore.
I believe that the second stanza is from Robert's point of view, with "And tonight you die in hell" meaning that he is on his way to his brother and planning to kill Aurora.

I think it's about a man in the Middle Ages who is made believe that his wife is a witch. So he kills her although it doesn't seem right to him. After the murder he is chased down by the memories, before he decides to bury her in the mire.

Kamelot – Veritas Lyrics 13 years ago
You could say that it is the theme song of Robert, the "evil" twin brother. He decides to kill all potential heirs of his father's possession, even his father himself, until only his twin brother remains.
This could be about the murders ("Every harvest brings me closer to my aim") and how he plans to kill his father and take everything he has ("And all you ever had will soon belong to me.").
The part where Elize sings is the ghost of Jolee, his sister, trying to keep him from completing his plans, but he doesn't listen to her at all - that's why the last chorus tears apart her soft singing, so to say.

"Veritas" means truth. In connection with the story it is a symbol for the things that the twin brothers hide. Their sister died and it is their fault, yet they sweared not to tell anyone. They burned the word "Veritas" on their chests, which will alway remind them of the thing they fear the most - the truth.
So in the end this song is about the lie that Robert lives and that grows with every family member he kills.

Kamelot – Sacrimony (Angel of Afterlife) Lyrics 13 years ago
This is the point where the protagonist sits in the cell after facing his brother. He carves his story on the wall. The only thing that comforts him is the ghost of his dead sister Jolee, the Angel of Afterlife, which appears several times during his imprisonment and sings for him.
I think that after this song the album begins to retell the story from the beginning, starting with Ashes to Ashes, which is about the family slowly falling apart after the death of Jolee. But I don't know when the circle is complete yet, but I think it could be on "My Confession", since its lyrics are nearly identical with the spoken word passage on "Manus Dei". But if that is the case I don't know what happens in the following songs (Silverthorn - Prodigal Son).

Sonata Arctica – Under Your Tree Lyrics 13 years ago
Okay, this is the story I see in these lyrics:

It's about a woman that gave birth to a girl and on the same day planted a tree. And she raised her daughter and had a deep relationship to her. And as the years passed, the tree grew taller. The daughter got used to rest under that tree and dream. Her mother did never quit seeing the little child in her daughter.

Then, her daughter got ill and weak. She died of that illness, but her mother could not really deal with that. She wonders how fast time has passed. She buried the urn of her daughter's ashe under the tree that was planted the day she was born.

This song explains the situation when the mother decides to go back to that tree one last time and speak to it in the hope that her words would reach her daughter. Under her daughter's tree she finally wants to let go.

Three Days Grace – No More Lyrics 13 years ago
This song could be about heroes.
As far as I've figured it out there are two characters speaking in this song. One of them is the one who needs help. The other one is the one who, in the opinion of the first one, is the only one who can help him.
So the first tells the second: "Give me a reason to stay here, because I don't want to live in fear." He doesn't want to be afraid so he asks the second to protect him.
But then the second says that "I can stop..." part. He claims that he can not undo anything that has happened - he cannot change things like the rain. Bad things happen. But he also sais that he can stop the tears. He is indeed able to comfort the first one.
I think that "What do we stand for when we all live in fear" is some kind of conclusion of the rest of the lyrics. It's like you need someone to take that fear and the pain. For example a band like Three Days Grace - and songs as awesome as this one.

Also, I think the main guitar riff symbolizes the rain, which on the other hand is a metaphor for those bad things that not even the "heroes" can change.

Kamelot – The Great Pandemonium Lyrics 13 years ago
One thing I noticed:
The lyrics mention some "book of Babalon", which probably is the "Liber Babalon" by Jack Parsons. I have read up on that in the internet. I haven't understood everything about that book, but it's some creepy occult talk about the resurrection of a god. And then it sais: "The working is of nine moons." In the song it is: "Just one more day." This is the beginning of the ninth album (ninth moon/day?). Got it? ;)

Kamelot – Karma Lyrics 13 years ago
I don't think that it is about any specific historical person. It's just about a king who suffers from illness and realizes that his time has come. And he thinks about the things he has done. So, in my opinion, the most important line this whole song is: "And here I stand, a small and simple man." I'm pretty sure that this doesn't refer to his body height. He just felt taller and higher than all the people he ruled. But now he realizes that his power on earth won't save him from his Karma. All people are equal before God. And he would give away his whole kingdom just to change his Karma.
It is a very deep song and you don't have to take it literally. The king can be anyone who has lived their lives at the expense of others. Because in the end all they do in life comes back to them, and even if they have felt like kings during their lifetime, they will end up thinking: "Who will trade his Karma for my kingdom?" That's how deep this song goes!

Kamelot – Soul Society Lyrics 13 years ago
Black Halo is from 2005. But I don't think that this has anything to do with Bleach. "Soul Society" is just a term for a peaceful world that the protagonist dreams of, but that can never exist, because humans will never change.

Kamelot – Memento Mori Lyrics 13 years ago
In my opinion there is one part that's been considered much too little, and I mean that Helena vs. Mephisto part in the middle. Probably Mephisto wants to fulfill the contract, because, in fact, Ariel's soul is his "the day he dies". So he tries to grab it and flee with it, but the ghost of Helena, as she already appeared in III Ways and Abandoned, comes to the aid of Ariel, because she now knows that he realized his mistakes and his guilt. She defends his soul, while Mephisto is "willig but unable" to reach it. That's why he does that wailing scream. So she puts him to flight. After that, Ariel is left to "close his eyes" and his soul is able to reach heaven untroubled, so from now on he can be with Helena.

Kamelot – March Of Mephisto Lyrics 13 years ago
I think that this isn't only about Mephisto seducing Marguerite to come with him, but also about how the whole world starts to bow before him. The people look up to him in their despair, so he can gather a whole army.
Throughout the whole album you can find some allusions to war, especially to religious, and so I really think that Mephisto revolts against quite everything with his army. And, as you can read out of the Latin lines, he uses religion as a tool to fool the people. Maybe he does that to prove to God that he is indeed albe to pollute his very favorite creation.

Kamelot – Nothing Ever Dies Lyrics 13 years ago
I'm still not fully satisfied with those Wikipedia-interpretations, because they use to miss some important information.

Anyway, these are Ariel's thoughts on quite everything. After he chased away Mephisto in Black Halo he realizes that love is the only thing that can lead to peace. And in the moment that he realizes that he is fully content. He truly wants this moment to last forever and desires to "linger on" in that "state of still" ... rememer these words? They're from A Feast For the Vain and that means that his deal with Mephisto is completed now. So in Memento Mori Mephisto comes back to take Ariel's soul. If you look at this song from that point of view it seems to be one of the very most important of the whole story, because it directly leads into the finale.

Blind Guardian – Bright Eyes Lyrics 13 years ago
I use to tie the whole album together to some kind of coherent story. So it is about a boy who's becoming an adult. Society expects him to grow up and leave all the fairytales behind, but he doesn't want to leave these worlds he used to dream of. So he jumps into that mirror on the front cover and gets into that world he made up in his mind (Imaginations From the Other Side).
He then travels through that world and for once he feels fully "alive" (I'm Alive). And on his journey he meets a bard who has known Arthur (Past and Future Secret) and other guys that only exist because he has read some odd books. So there are also the "bad ones" - like Mordred (Mordred's Song), with whom the boy can identify, because he, too, hates his father (you can read that out of the lyrics of Bright Eyes). And the boy loses his connection to the real world. But in the end (As the Story Ends) he decides that he has to let go of his dreams because the real world awaits.
