To me and my sister, this song we can really connect to. We see the song as when the world is turning against you and trying to change you. All is going wrong and you're being expected to be changed by the people around you, but you're not about to change just for their satisfaction. This song really speaks to us, and it's sorta like our theme song since we're bullied a lot and everyone's telling us to change 'this and that' about us. All in all, it's a great song, and I cannot get enough of it. LOVE ALL YOU BREAKING BENJAMIN FANS OUT THERE!!!! \m/ WHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XD |

I really think this song is about fighting your sins and trying to correct. Admitting your sins, in other words. "Hopeless I'm falling down Hopeless I can't wake up" You're hopeless because you're trying to find your way back to doing good, but you can't get your mind to work the way you want. "Here I lie forever Sorrow still remains Will the water pull me down And wash it all away" He can't figure out what is right and get rid of his sins, so he just wants to die and get it over with. "I can hear the devil call my name" He's admitting to his sins and showing that the devil goes after everyone, including him. This effaces a suggestive meaning for the song. It doesn't make you a bad person if the devil is calling for you. Everyone has sins, just it's still not good if you can hear him. But, yeah. I think this song was really made by Ben to admit to his wrongs and show he's trying to do better. Something like that, I'm not really good with words. XD But, hope you know what I mean. |

| Breaking Benjamin – Anthem Of The Angels Lyrics | 13 years ago |

Well, Benjamin wrote this song when he was next to his grandfather in the hospital. His grandad was suffering from Alzheimer and he was dying. If you look in the back of Dear Agony, he has a picture of his grandfather and says "love you grandad" or something like that underneath it. So, this song basically has the setting of a hospital room. It's raining outside, just making it more depressing. He's set next to his dying grandfather, knowing there is nothing left they can do to save him. He keeps telling himself that he'll be alright, but deep down inside he knows he won't make it. "You're dead alive" meaning that his grandad is basically dead on the inside from the Alzheimer (damage to the brain. A disease, I think. You can't remember much and your brain basically rots or something, yet you can still be alive while suffering, but will die from it sooner or later). But, he stays by his side for days, comforting himself and his grandfather, as they say their last goodbyes. So, I'm positive this is what Anthem of the Angels is about. (Also, if you notice, the cover of dear agony is a brain scan, therefore relating back to the Alzheimer.) BUT, you can use the song for many different things. It makes me cry when I make music videos in my head of it. (you should try, seriously) |

(Yes, I am writing in 2012 XD) Okay, I really think this song is about facing your sins. "here I stand, helpless and left for dead" It's near the end for you. You've done wrongs in your life, and there's not much time left to correct it. "Close your eyes So many days go by Easy to find what's wrong Harder to find what's right" Basically saying 'face the fact that you did wrong' and you think you can't change it, nor do you know what you did right. "I believe in you, I can show you that I can see right through all your empty lies I won't stay long, in this world so wrong" Saying you believe in yourself, and you think you might be able to correct your wrongs, because you know you won't last much longer. *chorus* "Say goodbye As we dance with the devil tonight Don't you dare look at him in the eye As we dance with the devil tonight" You know you're going to die soon, so you're telling yourself that you're not going to fall for the devil and listen to him. "Don't you dare look at him in the eye" meaning that he is a frightening liar and if you were to look at him, he'll think he has a chance of pulling you into his trap. "Trembling, crawling across my skin Feeling you cold, dead eyes Stealing the life of mine" Meaning you are scared to death that you might be pulled into the dark, and knowing that the devil is trying to bring you into his trap. You're doubting yourself, because, again, you remember your sins, and you don't even think about simply asking God for forgiveness to wash it all away and save yourself. "Hold on Hold on" Telling yourself to not fall into the pits of hell, and to hold on to what you believe might be right. (relating back to the beginning "Easy to find what's wrong, harder to find what's right") Okay, so that's basically my interpretation of the song. It's one of Breaking Benjamin's best, and a kick-butt song. Love it. First time I heard it, I loved it. ♥ ;) Hope my interpretation made sense to you. |
