I disagree with the comment that this is "miserable, edge-of-suicide" music." Obviously that is a matter of opinion but when I listen to this band I can't help but be in an upbeat mood. It is true that some bands that are labeled "grunge" have some depressing songs, but I really don't feel that way about a majority of bands. Overall I would rather hear a good song that has meaning (whether is is "depressing" or not) than a meaningless pop tune. Also I really don't think the sole purpose of the song is to make fun of country music. I feel it is a legitimate attempt to show the band's versatility. They were probably influenced by country music as well as rock. I used to hate country music... until I actually listened to it. |

| It's convenient to say a band is making fun of country music because it is not their main genre. However, in reality, most musicians are inspired by many types of music and, believe it or not, may stray from their primary sound from time to time. In this case I think they wanted to include a song that sounded different from the rest of the album. Since they had another country-sounding song on their follow up album, I am even more convinced this was not merely a jab at the country genre. As a fan of multiple genres, I appreciate it when bands mix up their sound. This is a good quality song and should be viewed as such. | |
