it's called rootless which implies she has nowhere to run from as she is not rooted to the ground so she is just a person roaming around space and she can never find a home because she doesn't know where she's come from so she's doesn't know where she can go to. I think she wishes she had something to hold onto some origin, but she's just in species mode |

I love the song. i had an experience with philosophy. it was half of the degree i never really got despite the work i put in and my intelligence and ability to retrieve and question but it's a fucked up industry, serious! it stems from religion anyway. they indoctrinated me, it's like a cult. i used to love philosophy but since my uni experience i found it's a dark ritualistic tribal club and beautiful, intelligent women won't get too far in it because what ancient philosophers were women? Just think about it. |

I can't believe I missed her play Glastonbury. I had only heard Hollywood and I loved it but I didn't realise just how ironic it and all the rest of her music was so I tried to be cool and saw Biffy Clyro or someone instead. So wish I had seen her. I hope she doesn't get too big because I want her to play near me and I think it will ruin her. Primadonna is already starting to seem like Beyonce a bit and I just wanna see more of the stuff, or hear should I say more of the stuff that got me into her in the first place or she might as well just be Shakira or Catherine Zeta |

| Marina and the Diamonds – Living Dead Lyrics

This song is pure quality. How am I the first to be commenting? Living dead is about being numb to the point where all that motivates you to live is knowing you're going to die. She seems upset that she hasn't experienced love, almost like this may hold some answers. it's thoughts of you not bird eye view! massively hilarious. It's a difficult one to work out, sometimes I think Marina is just purposefully trying to be obscure, cryptic and whacky but it's just not obscure, cryptic or whacky enough to warrant that and she sings with such passion I'm pretty sure her mind's in motion when she wrote it. She talks about emptiness around her, it's almost just like she wants to capture the essence of death to try and live her best but when she thinks about it she equates her life with that because it's the thought she is gunna die that she is in tune with not the thought that she's alive. She seems to feel that her life might be different has she done things differently, it hints at regret, but when she says she thinks of all the men she could have kissed when she pulls back a glittering mist or whatever I'm not sure if she means she wished she had or that it's just so irrelevant because she's just looking to the sky to fulfil her dreams. I mean I don't know, the song is just bad ass. |

| Marina and the Diamonds – The Outsider Lyrics

I'm just totally fascinated by the inside the outsider bit. it's simple but if you try to analyze it within the perameters of this song i can't really fit it into context. i'm sure there's an obvious meaning. I always get the feeling that Marina's almost a- social, i can't explain it, she seems kind of like in a way she doesn't want or need anybody but also sad about it but also like she can get on with people but like this wouldn't really factor into her mind in deciding whether or not she'd befriend to you. maybe i'm giving it too much thought, and it could just be a total persona. I don't know though, from her interviews and stuff I really relate to her. it's almost like she's not looking for approval to the point she wouldn't notice if she's getting it. almost just like she's not bothered about making friends but at social events and stuff people kind of annoy her but she's there just because she's there and it's an attempt to be social and/ or make some friends. she strikes me as the kind of person who's so awesome she'd be popular if she opened up but i get the feeling she ravels herself up if ya get me, like all this would hurt her. I think it's about feeling the pressure to be something you're not to fit in and she's debating whether she'll get in on being herself. Inside the outsider maybe suggests that she has an in with some people or person or social group but she's inside it. or maybe it's not meant to be so literal and it's more about her projection of being perceived as an outsider leading her to misfit anywhere.I actually think it is about social bullshit, she says I'm good at protecting what they want to take. and this is what it's all based on, people always want something, and she has to protect herself by not giving into them. she basically feels like she's one in a crowd of pretenders and she's the only one who's real but she's getting burned, like on a back burner, no one appreciates who she really is because that's not what society is about anymore. they just want to keep her at a distance but at the same time torture her vicariously. she's got so caught up in it though she thinks she is the problem but it's them, so she goes inside her self to protect herself from being an outsider. i think i've solved it! |

| Marina and the Diamonds – Are You Satisfied? Lyrics
| 13 years ago

I think the start is about her getting a deal, as in a music deal, and the bit about the cat getting the cream and what you're expected to be is about feeling the pressure to conform now her music would be marketed and how she didn't see it like that, how it's no different to a chef getting a job at a prestigious restaurant. she is worried who will influence her album and how. and it's clearly about power relations, how people think it is empowering to artists to get more studio time but really it may lead to comprimise and if she refuses to fall in line she might have to sell out her integrity to save her career and she always says the diamonds are her fans, so i think she is really genuine and she will fight to keep her artwork original but it doesn't mean she'll be happy just because she's got the gig. humans always crave more than what they got no matter what, that's part of the american dream, but it's not a virtue. I also think the bit about an easy ride and crossing the line is about the strive to succeed and not having the confidence in yourself, stop you taking chances and what are you really in it for? once you make it will you be happy or will you keep your stuff to yourself when you want to share it and live it? i also think the bit about crossing the line could be about going back on your promises like a politicians and knowing once you start this journey you have probably started to sell out but she wouldn't be happy doing anything else so this is what she wants and maybe she has come to terms with the fact that people may try and turn her into a business but she is still just a person with feelings and notions, and desires. i don't think she ever really says anything with malice but when she says are you satisfied on repeat i think she may be asking her audience if they are satisfied with her as an artist as i think she knows her shows may change her. |

| Kate Voegele – Forever And Almost Always Lyrics

Hmmm, I don't think it's about a guy taking advantage of her at all. I think it's actually about projecting fears that make you miss things in a relationship. I think it's about how her perception of him as a boyfriend clouds what is their and how being in love with someone can throw your expectations out of perception. The amount of times she mentions love I think it's obvious love plays a part but what does love even mean? It's almost impossible to measure, and it's not a fairytale. How can it be? They allude to myths and fairytales, in the real world the idea that someone can save us is founded on fairytale expectations. and while we should all expect to get that from someone we forget that it is this we want and not the person, because if it was the person we wanted we would not be feeling neglected. again i think it is just another song about the illusions we have about love just like wish you were. |

| Marina and the Diamonds – Oh No! Lyrics

I agree with all opinions on this song as being plausible and making sense. I actually think the singer in this song probably wrote this song before she had become successful, as she was starting out in her career, as she is still relatively new and I think it describes how her aspirations have been formed by the surrounding world but I don't agree it's an identity crisis. I think quite the opposite that she is so happy in her fame, she could have all the possessions she wants, but she is on those silver screens now herself, there is definately a sadness and I think that she has built herself up in prior years to accept that fame is not what would bring her happiness but fulfilling her career as an artist, doing something she loved, and fame just comes with it. To make it big in industries like this you need to appeal to the masses but this is her work, and has been for years, and as for stuff about love and friends, most artists are lonely and that's not always because they need to be, sometimes they are just introverted and have little luck and/ or interest in these areas, and like everyone else will have tried them but gone through mere transitions with them not solidity. I actually find this song really liberating, i think it's just about a normal girl who wants to sing and occasionally play a piano in front of a crowd, and make a lot of albums, and make money from it. I don't think she aspired for it because she was fame or money hungry though, and i think she is basically saying that. it'sa a thin line between introvert and extrovert, because a lot of artists don't seem to make friends or keep relationships easily but they sure don't mind telling an entire room of strangers that this is who they are! fascinating. I think she is also saying how things like tv can actually detract you from your dream which can be confusing if your dreams involve stardom. a lot of us are creative but we'd be mad to not turn that from a hobby to a living, and if you get chances you should take them and Marina did, and that's why I love her and I'm glad she doesn't care what people think or she'd make different music, and can't appeal to everyone. I would sure as hell sign a record tomorrow and try and make the songs I thought were the least accessible simply because I wouldn't want a big fan base because they would be listening to Rhianna and shit |

| Marina and the Diamonds – Girls Lyrics

For christ sake, I just wrote two comments trying to express the same thing but they both came out deleted because of technical difficults. I actually think it is feminist, but it's not based on politics but just personal stance. i think the bit about not bending over to curtsy is kind of meant to be universally heard on some level as being empowerment to women as a whole, not falling into these size zero dreams, creating body image and also judgement of other girls for this becomes a mass view not only of them as an individual but of all women and even with the reference to magazines etc i think that's more of an ironic jibe about taking personal responsibility as we are all exposed to the same thing really but we don't all pertain this idea that our actions don't matter as it has become the norm where clearly if they are damaging they do. i think marina as a singer, individul and artist is actually saying women need to stop this battle with women, because it's really a battle with themself. if i get over my insecurities and some woman then tries to put them back on me then it won't touch me because i'm over that but it really just perpetuates their own insecurities. I don't think it's supposed to get too serious into anything but in her song 'oh no' which is a personal favourite she says 'don't do friends', maybe this explains the not being able to relate to girls side and it's not to say all girls are like that but i think she is literally just saying that she won't let it affect her if she can help it and the fact that it is called girls and not women i think it is portraying the women who never grew out of the bitching stage and these women unfortunately do exist and if you come into contact with them it can be social suicide because we pathetically still have this hearsay dynamic where those who are popular will take heed and i think it's a fair point. maybe if we focused on our relationship with women and the woman inside every one of us we could relate and if that's never gunna happen just accept that wave length ain't gunna get you these sorts of friends which is cool because i've had them and they suck and they should be the ones listening to this. as far as marina herself goes she isn't singing about how great this mentality is so i'd stay she isn't one of the girls she's describing as they are the ones who can't see this shit about how hating, not even hating, but jealousy, envy, being threatened, scheming with people just isn't gunna get you anywhere and leave you more messed up and alone and she won't fall for it. also i don't even think it's about gender as guys can be like this too, i think we need to stop being so introspective after that hideously long ESSAY and just accept it's a catchy alternative pop song which is just saying had enough of this shit, that's it! |
