Philosopher My Arse Lyrics
Your theories, your beliefs
And the way you preach for peace
It sounds like vomit to my ears
Woh, daddy likes to teach
Counts for the muttered words you like to speak
But it sounds like vomit to my ears
Let me fall and kiss your feet
Everybody knows they're cleaner than your lips
I'm not easy to defeat
I know, I know when something's amiss (x3)
Something's amiss
Philosopher my ass
Your words leave your mouth pretty fast
And it sounds like vomit to my ears
I lie in the safety of your bed
Whilst Bob Marley goes straight to your head
How can you compare yourself to this man
Your whole life's a scam
So let me fall and kiss your feet
Everybody knows they're cleaner than your lips
I'm not easy to defeat
I know, I know when something's amiss (x3)
(I think I know when) something's amiss
Don't cheat me, don't you cheat me
Don't you think you can fucking lie to me
Yeah...
Cus I won't fall and kiss your feet
Everybody knows they're cleaner than your lips
I'm not easy to defeat
I know, I know when something's amiss (x3)
Something's amiss (x2)
And the way you preach for peace
It sounds like vomit to my ears

Everybody knows they're cleaner than your lips
I'm not easy to defeat
I know, I know when something's amiss (x3)

It can't represent me any lesser it's about how philosophers predicate their beleifs, when the best would be that everyone develops their own new personal anthem

I love the song. i had an experience with philosophy. it was half of the degree i never really got despite the work i put in and my intelligence and ability to retrieve and question but it's a fucked up industry, serious! it stems from religion anyway. they indoctrinated me, it's like a cult. i used to love philosophy but since my uni experience i found it's a dark ritualistic tribal club and beautiful, intelligent women won't get too far in it because what ancient philosophers were women? Just think about it.
This song may be about philosophers but I also think it may be about a past relationship she was in. Maybe she was in a relationship where he would also lie to her and maybe cheat on her which may be why he's calling him a philosopher.
"And the way you preach for peace It sounds like vomit to my ears" Maybe he's trying to be forgiven but she's had enough of it and it sounds like "vomit to my ears".
"Everybody knows they're cleaner than your lips" He lies a lot, obviously.
"I'm not easy to defeat" He can't fool her with his lies.
"Don't cheat me, don't you cheat me Don't you think you can fucking lie to me Yeah..." This is a very angry moment in the song and the music gets really heavy when she sings this bit. Maybe he had cheated on her and she's still very bitter and angry about it.
Or it could be about philosophers. But I can't help but feel this song has a deeper meaning to it.
But this song is amazing and I love it. It's quite heavier then her other stuff but it's still amazing. :)
To me, the meaning is very obvious, but I might just be projecting my experiences onto the song.
I think it's about a pretentious person who thinks of themself as a philosopher or genius but is actually shallow and self-absorbed. They think they have strong morals and are a great person but their theories and beliefs are unhelpful and are just a way to boost their ego by making them feel morally and intellectually superior.
They're preaching their "philosophy" to her but she can tell it's worthless because they're not actually a good or helpful person and only actually care about themself. She's angry about the condescending way they treat her.
