Marilyn Manson – Lamb Of God Lyrics 7 years ago
It drives me crazy when people want to jump in here and say “you’re all wrong and stupid” basically, but then do not offer anything of value. I mean, if you are going to jump on everyone’s theories, at least back it up with something...

I would say that even if it isn’t ‘about’ JFK or John Lennon, it does have something to do with them, since Manson is pointing to them directly. The themes across the album are apparent, yes, but what other conclusions can we draw?

Anyway, I am sort of confused as to the deeper meaning myself. One thing I didn’t really see mentioned as I was reading the comments (I could be wrong) is, when he says Jack, he could be refering to JFK, as his nickname was Jack.

“The Camera will make you God, that’s how Jack became sainted.” To me it makes sense in this way, because the camera made JFK god, he was the president to really be on camera back when it was not as common to see the president on camera all of the time. America still seems to think that he wasone of the most influential presidents. Though, had he lived and completed his term, maybe we wouldn’t look at him this way.

For some reason I always thought that Manson was arguing with Lennon’s song Imagine, when he says the world will live as one. Manson is saying, no, nothing is going to change the world.

We keep going backwards, becoming enveloped in the media, and our own devices. We know that it is getting worse, yet we keep doing it.

Marilyn Manson – KILL4ME Lyrics 7 years ago
I can see this song having multiple meanings, I think a lot lf Manson’s songs do.

I sort of disagree about this song being about love, I could be wrong but to me it seems like it is about fake love, or about how people are confused about what love actually is. So yes, maybe the ‘theme’ is about love, but the song is not.

“Let's grab a gold switchblade
And make us a blood pact, babe
To love and to fuck and to only see ourselves
And remember this”

I see this as two people playing games with their emotions. They are throwing caution to the wind and are getting into something that they can’t possibly know the extent of. I think it goes back to the divorce rate, and how fast people fall in and out of love in relationships. Instead of taking it slow and building a relationship that will stand the test of time, we just throw ourselves into it with a carefree spirit. Like here, I will give you sex, my emotions, all of these parts of me, and not worry about the consequences, of how I could hurt you, how you can hurt me.

“Your hotel-heart won't be so vacant
And I can tell that you ain't faking
Because I take death threats
Like the best of them”

Your hotel heart won’t be so vacant if I stay in it for awhile, but who knows how long that will be. I can tell that you’re not faking because you claim to want to be with me, and you make promises, and you seem very passionate. I take this seriously because I always think that ‘this’ has to be the one, which is only disguised as a death threat. I just don’t know it yet, because I am distracted by thinking that you love me. Or alternatively a relationship can be seen as a death threat, once your emotions are involved, it is really easy to blackmail you emotionally, “well if you don’t do this, I will break up with you,” or you tell them your deepest secrets, fears, bare your soul to them, and because they never really cared about you, they can now hurt you (possibly manipulate-though that can even be done with the best of intentions) in whichever way they choose.

“Would you kill, kill, kill for me?
I love you enough to ask you again
Would you kill, kill, kill for me?
You won't be kissing me unless you kill for me
Kill, kill, kill for me“

I sort of see this as getting your needs met. You need to connect with someone emotionally or have something sexually and it becomes this negotiation, “well I’ll only be true to you if you put a ring on it” or “oh if you want me to do that in the bedroom, I am going to need A, B, and C, and after that, I will make you jump every hoop all the way to Z. Then I will think about doing what you want.”

It could also mean that after you have been let down by so many people in your life, who claim to love you, but really don’t, that you now have much higher standards. You don’t want to be unreasonable, or difficult, but you now what you will or will not put up with in your life or relationships. It isn’t about lust, or puppy love anymore, if you want me, than you better put as much work into as I am going to.

“Bloody noses are just like roses
But what happens when we are betrayed?
Would you drag them to the shed
And unload six rounds in their fucking face?
This is a sacrifice“

Roses seem to be a common theme in Manson’s songs and I have always wondered what exactly they represent for him.

In this song I see it as in a relationship a partner might give you a lot of roses over that span of time, but in an unsuccessful relationship, they can be given just as easily as you are hurting each other in the relationship. Love and hate are two sides of the same coin. As much as you love someone and give them your heart, they can hurt you just as much, and you go from being happy with them one second, to wanting to hurt them the next. Fights are common, but when you are constantly fighting things go south very quickly and become messy.

I can also see it, as “yep I fucked up again, I hurt you, here are some roses to make it better, so we’re just good now, right? Okay, cool, I love you.” “yeah, love you too.” They’re hollow words, the problem wasn’t resolved it will happen again.

Then, okay so we know we are going to have issues, but what happens when we are betrayed? We will be hurt and all of this will be for nothing. This is part of the sacrifice of trying to make it work with someone.

I think the unloading six rounds and dragging them to the shed might be shutting up everyone who doubts your love relationship. You are breaking away from them, or simply not listening. I’m not entirely sure, again it could mean many different things.

“Would you kill, kill, kill for me?
I love you enough to ask you again
Would you kill, kill, kill for me?
You won't be kissing me unless you kill for me”

I see the line I love you enough to ask you again to be about taking advantage of the relationship. Especially if the person really only cares about material. The wife says “buy me this car” for example, and the husband says no, and then later he says he loves her or something, and then she pulls the “if you loved me you would buy me that car.” And because she thinks he is truly the one, and thinks she really loves him, she will give him a chance to answer the question again, ‘correctly’ (in her mind).

Lately I have been toying with the idea that it could be about God, so many deaths are in the name of God, because people feel that they are doing God’s bidding, or what they think God has asked of them. So God is saying if you love me, if you want to get into heaven will you kill for me?

“Sideways for attention, longways for results
Who are you going to cross?”

I sort of see this being sexual, having plain, neutral, vanilla sex will keep you happy for a short period of time. But long ways, let’s really have fun, get to know each other, really learn what each other likes, then we will actually have results in our relationship.

Who are you going to cross makes me think of God again, what will you do to prove yourself worthy to God?

My two cents.

Marilyn Manson – The Fight Song Lyrics 7 years ago
I think it is interesting how fast people jump on the Marilyn Manson “hates God” or doesn’t “believe in God” train. This is an assumption. Granted I do not stalk Manson’s every move, or interview, but I have never really heard him give his exact stance on his belief in God. Arguing this point is pointless, because we obviously have no idea what his exact view is.

Anyfuckingway. What I love about this album, is how intricately intertwined it is. The different themes tell a story, the songs play off of one another, the evolution of Manson as he tells his story, and his personal growth as well.

When I listen to this album, I feel as though Manson was going through a lot of emotion. Not solely curerent events, but his personal life.

For this song, Manson was blamed for Columbine, and hated, and ridiculed. I think Manson teaches each one of us so much, especially to be ourselves, and to be an individual. I don’t think he ever taught us to ‘be’ hated, but how to deal with it when we ‘are’ hated. It hurts to be hated, and blamed for something so heinous. He is still a man, and has feelings. Watching children do something so horrible is hard to deal with even if you are just watching it on the news. It’s heartbreaking. To be blamed for it as well, and have hurtful things said about you would be difficult. If you listen to the feeling he puts into the lyrics, and his emotion as he sings the songs, you can tell that he obviously cares, and how he felt about kids doing something so devastating. In one interview he did say that he simply would have listened to those boys, not tell them what they should do. There is also more to it than that. Manson went to a school where they were telling him how to believe, and when he tried to be himself the teachers-the ones who are ‘supposed’ to be positive, encouraging, influences in your life, didn’t accept him for who he was, and how *he* believed.

“Nothing suffocates you more
Than the passing of everyday human events
And isolation is the oxygen mask
You make your children breathe in to survive”

To me this says, the news, the media, news from relatives, bad things that happen everyday, it all plays a part in suffocating you, draining you etc.

Parents want to shelter their children, keep them away from the bad stuff, so we make them stay away away from it. As well as make them feel ashamed and guilty of things that they like, or want. Bombard them with morals, and then they go out in to the world and are shocked by what really goes on. Often times kids will jump to extremes and become addicted to the shit we tried to keep them away from (sex, drugs, alcohol, food, insert addiction/vice here), because they were sheltered from it.

“But I'm not a slave to a god
That doesn't exist
I'm not a slave to a world
That doesn't give a shit”

I think Manson is saying, just because you sheltered yourself, and your kids, or grew up with your version of who God is and what he wants, that isn’t Manson’s fault. He’a not a slave to any God or ideal. I think this may be more metaphorical than literal, again we don’t know if Marilyn believes in God or not. This could also call into question all of those who say they believe in God and claim that they follow Christ’s example, yet when sinners and those who don’t believe assiiciate with them, they are judged instead of helped or accepted. It’s like God doesn’t exist when his example is not being followed. And I think I’m not a slave to a world who doesn’t give a shit, is self explanatory, when we want change, but do nothing to make it happen, we aren’t giving a shit.

“And when we were good
You just closed your eyes
So when we are bad
We'll scar your minds“

I think this points to those boys who were responsible for the shooting. When they were good, nobody probably cared, listened to them. They were probably rejected and bullied. And people probably just closed their eyes and looked the other way instead of caring. So that ate away at them, they became bad, and then scared our minds with their actions. This can be very generalized too. Nice kids are usually the ones who are picked on or bullied. Parents can often turn their seeet, innocent children into enraged children, by being abusive. So we’re good, and people take this for granted, and then we become fed up and ‘done’ being nice, we usually shock our parents, teachers, what have you, with our life decisions.

“You'll never grow up to be a big rock star
Celebrated victim of your fame
They'll just cut our wrists like cheap coupons
And say that death was on sale today”

I think this is just reality, only so many people can become famous. So many of us at kids think we are going to be rock stars when we grow up, and we’ll get to tell our stories, show how we were the victims in our lives, and now we are victims of our fame. People dream of becoming famous, and then when their dreams come true, they find that their lives still suck, they’re still not happy. This isn’t just limited to fame, how many parents want their kids to become doctors, lawyers, ceos. Once we become this ‘big deal’ person we wanted to become, our lives are no longer our own. We find out that the people we thought were our friends will betray us for their “five minutes” in a heartbeat. They will work us to death, make our families suffer for our careers, and when they are finished with us, they will dispose of us without a second thought.

I love the say that death is on sale today” line. They will just shrug their shoulders and not care if we die, they will just get someone else. And suicide can fit in this too, because sometimes it is just easier to end it all than fight. So death is on sale, it’s an easier option.

“The death of one is a tragedy
The death of million is just a statistic”

We are sensitized to death and tragedy. If a celebrity dies, everyone is appalled and can’t handle it. When we watch the news and hear about how people died in a disaster, or something like that, we don’t really bat an eye. We care more about our celebrities than each other.

I think with it being the fight song, we fight about it all, but we don’t really accomplish anything. It could also be calling out to us to actually do something.

I like how timeless this song is, it was relevent then, and it is very relevent now, with today’s school shootings, mental health becoming more well known-but also being littered with stigma, and the fact that kids still try to measure up to their parents expectations but fall short, and then they realize that they have to be true to themselves and not their parents, or society. As Manson says in another lyric “Nothing’s going to change the world.”

This is just one angle I am seeing it from though, there are many other ways this song can be interpreted. Until Manson tells us exaclty what each lyric means, we shouldn’t call others wrong, or verbally bash them. You are just furthering Manson’s point.

Pink – Try Lyrics 8 years ago
I feel like this song is about a relationship that is not so black and white. She isn't going through a break up, she is just trying to find her place in the relationship. They both are. They are both feeling desire, there is a flame that is still burning, but in order for it to continue to grow, they both have to try.

Sometimes relationships are not always on the up, but it is sticking through it, and working on persevering through the good points and bad points. Instead of just closing the book on it, on a love that still has a spark, you've got to get up and try to improve, you get out what you put in. If both parties aren't willing to take a chance and put in as much as they can, it won't work.

I think the video is what makes me think of this. In the video they are fighting it out, but they are doing it together. They still love each other and are willing to fight for it. Eapecially at the end when they are running towards each other.

So many relationships are too clear cut, people give up on them before really trying to better themselves and improve the relationship. But if someone is worth pursuing, you have to put in the effort. You have to go through the good and bad times together. Love is messy, sometimes you get burned, and I don't mean people should tolerate abuse or violence at all. But sometimes we say things we don't mean. Or do something stupid without thinking. It's not easy, nothing worth pursuing ever is. Sometimes you have to be willing to move past it, and remember what brought you together in the first place. "Just because it burns doesn't mean you're gonna die, you've got to get up and try."

But that's just how it makes me feel when I listen to it.

Fever Ray – Dry and Dusty Lyrics 11 years ago
To me this song is about having to say goodbye to someone who meant everything to you, because they are dying. \

Never leave me
Walk close beside me
Your hand my hand
Fits so easy

I feel this says they know each other very well, and most likely for a long time. They are very close, and love being together.

No tomorrow
Let us stop here
We did some great things
Didn't we?

They don't anticipate the person making it for much longer, probably not through the night. So the lover is wishing, praying, for more time. For this day/night to go on forever. Also reminiscing on their time together, and their beautiful past.

Dry and dusty
I am a capsule of energy
You speak softly
We are capsules of energy

When losing someone you can become numb, the pain is too much to handle. "Dry" being lifeless. It can also change you dramatically, give you an older perspective on life, and make you feel older, or maybe incapable, especially when losing someone who painted your world. "Dusty" withered, decrepit, loss of will.

I am a capsule of energy maybe recognizing that they are merely a spec in a very large world, and universe. Death can sometimes put that into perspective for people, making us question the meaning of life, and our purpose as individuals.

Work as I've been told
In return I get money
Small feet in the hall
And I long for every moment

To me this says the person has lived the rat race, doing what was necessary in their lives, doing everything they were told, everything that was "right." In the end it didn't make a difference, they are still losing the one thing that ever meant anything to them.

All they cared about was the person they lived with, "small feet in the hall" that presence of their loved one, always knowing and feeling that person was there. They worked until they could be with the one they loved at the end of everyday.

I think this song also can also make a lot of sense, if looked at from the end to the beginning, but either way it tells a beautiful and very painful story.

This is simply my take though.

KoЯn – Did My Time Lyrics 12 years ago
I agree, so many people putting up their thoughts on the band. If you do not like the band, or the song, why waste energy on commenting? Hard to shuffle through and find decent interpretations when there are so many arguments on whether the band is good or not.

Anyway, I think this is about trying and continuing to fail, or not measuring up to what others want to see you as, or even not measuring up to what you want others to see you as. "I did my time" meaning I have tried, I have failed, or even I have been successful at times, and am still not where I need to be.

"Realized I can never win
Sometimes feel like I have failed
Inside where do I begin
My mind is laughing at me"

Trying, and not making it, you just cannot win, and you feel defeated. Then you try yet again to do better, and ask yourself "where do I start?" and your mind laughs at you, like there is too much to sift through, or maybe mocking you because you simply are in over your head. Something like that.

I think many people can be changed or driven by their anger, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worst, you have to be careful what you do with it, as with any emotion.

Rob Zombie – The Girl Who Loved the Monsters Lyrics 12 years ago
I think the song is painting a picture of a girl who is outcasted in society, or seen as abnormal.

I got a black shoe lace painted face
I slit my wrist in a state of grace
I got dreadful clothes no-one knows
I bleed every night from my broken nose

Her appearance is outside of the norm or the popular trends, she copes with the pressure or pain in a different way, and tries to hide it from everyone else.

My blood sinks down to the canvas
I'm going down, down, down

This could symbolize that she is letting go of the pain within her (self-harm-or maybe figuratively she feels as though she is bleeding out). Maybe even that she is establishing who she is, by putting herself down on the canvas. Or creating herself in a way, again letting go and trying to move on or build herself into something better.

The Girl Who Loved the Monsters
Traces black streaks in the sky
The Girl Who Loved the Monsters
Is the girl who wants to fly

The Girl who loved the monsters-sees or saw the world differently, maybe not from an optimistic, or pessimistic stand point, but just differently than most. Perhaps the life she has led so far has given her an abstract or outsider type of view point.

Rather than getting hung up by the past, or weighed down by the monsters that consume her, she would rather love the monsters, or make peace with her inner demons, so she can fly, she can get away, she can be better for it.

I am a child in need watch me bleed
How can I live if I can not feel
I am a animal no ones knows
I limp around on broken toes

Painting the story again. She is young, in pain, maybe alone and with no one to help point her in the right direction, or give her something to feel/be a part of, or maybe even a goal to shoot for. But she still feels cast out, alone, in pain, and no one really knows what she is dealing with.

Set them free let them be
The monsters live in you and me
Set them free let them be
The monsters live in you and me

My favorite lines in the song.

We all have demons/monsters, and once we get past them, accept them, over come them, we become better, and are better able to understand those around us, and what they are going through. We can 'fly' so to speak.

The Girl wants to fly, so she loved the monsters (Redundant-I know =P).

Of course in the background you also have the lady talking about the survival of the fittest with the rat. There might be an underlying sentiment, of not giving up, fighting it out.

The Girl who loved the monsters, would be the superior rat, because she made peace with whatever it is that was once in her way. So many of us become consumed by the skeletons in our closet that they sink us. She was able to get past them.

But that is just my take, I feel like there may be more to it than I am fulling grasping.

I can also very much see all of this as the monster himself telling the story, maybe he is what she has created over time, and he sees her going through all of this, and is like "yes, she is going to get through this and fly someday, because she is my friend or 'loves' me."

I can see it a few different ways personally, but that is what sticks out to me. Either way my favorite Rob Zombie song, and one of my favorite songs in general. =D

Powerman 5000 – Free Lyrics 12 years ago
I could be wrong, but when I look at the lyrics, or listen to this song, I see it being more about restricting or limiting yourself. Rather than the world or society controlling you. Is it difficult to be yourself when society wants you to conform? Yes. And is it hard when your parents have an image or an ideal that they want you to live up to? Sure. And likewise with everyone else and there Mom who will have high and probably ridiculous expectations. But it is in choice that this song, I think, is based. And how free are you, if you constantly choose to be what they all want you to be? Of course, there is also that many people enjoy taking the easy road, settling on scraping by with the bare minimum, rather than becoming something more. And again, how free can you be when you stop challenging yourself, or pushing for more. That is just my take anyhow, and not too far from a few other responses that I saw.

Rush – Limelight Lyrics 13 years ago
What F****** difference does it make, whether Peart wrote his feelings or expressed them through covering. Johnny Cash covered a song that best portrayed what he felt through the song that he covered, his f****** music video best showed that....on and let's not forget his f****** death not long f******* not long after. So how about some respect. Any band in a garage sings a song already being played by an artist, that is not the point. The point is, what is the song about, and *how does it* relate it to this particular artist. We can argue stupid S*** all day. It meant something to Peart, it meant something to Cash. What matters at SONGS AND MEANINGS is....you guessed it, SONGS *AND* MEANINGS.

Marilyn Manson – The Death Song Lyrics 13 years ago
It makes sense about singing the death song because it's all going to end, or even because it has something to do with wanting to commit suicide. But, I was wondering what the line and "we wanna be just like you" is about? Who are they wanting to be like? God? Society?
