The Girl Who Loved the Monsters Lyrics
I got a black shoe lace painted face
I slit my wrist in a state of grace
I got dreadful clothes no-one knows
I bleed every night from my broken nose
My blood sinks down to the canvas
I'm going down, down, down
My blood sinks down to the canvas
I'm going down, down, down, down, down
The Girl Who Loved the Monsters
Traces black streaks in the sky
The Girl Who Loved the Monsters
Is the girl who wants to fly
I am a child in need watch me bleed
How can I live if I can not feel
I am a animal no ones knows
I limp around on broken toes
Blood sinks down to the canvas
I'm going down, down, down
My blood sinks down to the canvas
I'm going down, down, down, down, down
The Girl Who Loved the Monsters
Traces black streaks in the sky
The Girl Who Loved the Monsters
Is the girl who wants to fly
Set them free let them be
The monsters live in you and me
Set them free let them be
The monsters live in you and me

Song written in two perspectives: In the minds' eye of the GWLtM and a narrator for the chorus
The girl who always knew she was a monster, was ready to transform from her pupae stage to full adult (or MONSTER). ....and one way to "cross-over," would to become the undead, broken, & disfigured as seen through her.
i think it talks about self harm. it's beautiful to see the blood, it's an addiction. we hide, we are killing ourselves. the monsters are ourselves and the people who harm us.
I think the song is painting a picture of a girl who is outcasted in society, or seen as abnormal.
I got a black shoe lace painted face I slit my wrist in a state of grace I got dreadful clothes no-one knows I bleed every night from my broken nose
Her appearance is outside of the norm or the popular trends, she copes with the pressure or pain in a different way, and tries to hide it from everyone else.
My blood sinks down to the canvas I'm going down, down, down
This could symbolize that she is letting go of the pain within her (self-harm-or maybe figuratively she feels as though she is bleeding out). Maybe even that she is establishing who she is, by putting herself down on the canvas. Or creating herself in a way, again letting go and trying to move on or build herself into something better.
The Girl Who Loved the Monsters Traces black streaks in the sky The Girl Who Loved the Monsters Is the girl who wants to fly
The Girl who loved the monsters-sees or saw the world differently, maybe not from an optimistic, or pessimistic stand point, but just differently than most. Perhaps the life she has led so far has given her an abstract or outsider type of view point.
Rather than getting hung up by the past, or weighed down by the monsters that consume her, she would rather love the monsters, or make peace with her inner demons, so she can fly, she can get away, she can be better for it.
I am a child in need watch me bleed How can I live if I can not feel I am a animal no ones knows I limp around on broken toes
Painting the story again. She is young, in pain, maybe alone and with no one to help point her in the right direction, or give her something to feel/be a part of, or maybe even a goal to shoot for. But she still feels cast out, alone, in pain, and no one really knows what she is dealing with.
Set them free let them be The monsters live in you and me Set them free let them be The monsters live in you and me
My favorite lines in the song.
We all have demons/monsters, and once we get past them, accept them, over come them, we become better, and are better able to understand those around us, and what they are going through. We can 'fly' so to speak.
The Girl wants to fly, so she loved the monsters (Redundant-I know =P).
Of course in the background you also have the lady talking about the survival of the fittest with the rat. There might be an underlying sentiment, of not giving up, fighting it out.
The Girl who loved the monsters, would be the superior rat, because she made peace with whatever it is that was once in her way. So many of us become consumed by the skeletons in our closet that they sink us. She was able to get past them.
But that is just my take, I feel like there may be more to it than I am fulling grasping.
I can also very much see all of this as the monster himself telling the story, maybe he is what she has created over time, and he sees her going through all of this, and is like "yes, she is going to get through this and fly someday, because she is my friend or 'loves' me."
I can see it a few different ways personally, but that is what sticks out to me. Either way my favorite Rob Zombie song, and one of my favorite songs in general. =D
