I think this is meant to carry a positive message. couragemonbrave is right...the album is a charity album and, for the most part, contains real mellow tunes with a deeper, inspiring meaning. It's a one minute, very "minimalist" song and, although the melody is absolutely beautiful (one of the reasons i love this dude so much), you can tell he wants you to pay close attention to the lyricism and the message he wants to get across. I find it hard to believe that he would put so much effort into emphasizing negative lyrics in the context of Dark Was the Night. He is trying to show man's natural strength to overcome its personal and social issues, both past and present. Almost as if to say we will never be perfect, but it's for that reason we try to live a fulfilling life and look forward to death as a final rest and gift. Maybe? It having a positive message also makes the depressing title "Die" brilliantly ironic. Regardless of how the song speaks to you, it's still awesome. Knocks me off my feet every time. |
