Huh. I actually agree with yo, that's a pretty damn good interpretation. I think Isaac said something to the effect of, "Listeners can interpret our songs however they want" so my idea still hold some ground, but I like yours more. |

I don't know about you, but this song sort of seems like a prequel to Fly Trapped In a Jar. It almost seems to me he's describing the story of the people who end up feeding the ground. |

This is a great song. In my opinion, it isn't Modest Mouse's best, but for some it is. Perhaps these people haven't heard The Moon and Antarctica quite yet, but this song is popular because of the message, mainly.
This song is about making the best out of every situation and knowing that good news will always follow bad news. Which is funny, considering this son's relationship with World at Large.
The World at Large is a pretty sad song. The singer is a drifter, never stays in one place, and is constantly being dissapionted, getting tired of a place, or just feeling like he needs to move on.
The end is what really makes both songs amazing. After an incredible closing, The World at Large ends with one note, the same note Float On starts with. Listening to these songs back to back, you wouldn't even know they were two different songs.
I'm pretty sure the message at this point is obvious. No matter how bad things seem, or how many bad things happen, you can always make the most of it and Float On.
Granted, this isn't exactly the angry, dirty, sickly Modest Mouse we know and love, but it is quite incredible. If you don't like it for the cheery message, at least enjoy Isaac's guitar. |

"At gunpoint so I had to laugh"
Isaac is pretty genius |

I haven't read anything else (and quite frankly, I don't care,) but I'm freaking excited for their new stuff. Noone's First was pretty dang good, as was This is A Long Drive. This song sounds rad, so I'm happy with it |

Conrary to popular belief, not all Modest Mouse songs are about religion or drugs (granted, this song proably has something to do with drugs.)

My thoughts exactly. The fact that The World At Large flows into Float On might mean that whatever sad things happen, good news will always follow. |

I haven't read all the comments, but the part on "stealing your carbon" seems pretty obvious. The idea is that the air we breathe now is the same air that many people in the past have breathed, so the oxygen we breathe in is produced from trees, that "breathe in" the carbon dioxide we breathe out. It's an endless cycle, and the lyrics mean that once you are dead and gone, your air will be breathed, or "stolen" by the trees and the people. I love this song, though. And sometimes, it feels better not knowing exactly what Isaac was thinking while writing this. |

No way can't you love this song. Isaac's mumbling near the end is hilarious. Just the way he says "Oh, it's just that weird little mailman." |

I haven't read all the comments, but have you guys ever heard the term "dropping like flies?" I don't know, but it seems the two are tied together. |
