| Ozzy Osbourne – No More Tears Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Isn't it about Jack the Ripper? I think that makes the most sense. | |
| Owen Pallett – He Poos Clouds Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
I think it's about being obsessed with fictional characters and they are so perfect and you wish they could be real and you could be with them, but even though you can control them, you are just a guest in their world. And if they were real and you told them your feelings, their response would be "Maybe not!" I get that feeling a lot, about TV, books, movies... He's definitely talking about books and video games in this case. I always thought it was "Of course!" instead of "I have goals!" I guess they both make sense. Listening to it again, it sounds more like "I have goals!" |

| Frou Frou – Breathe In Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
Now that I think about it, maybe it could be related to singing. The first verse really reminds me of singing lessons from the perspective of a singing teacher: I read you And god I'm good at it I'm so spot on Chord, shapes in air Go press that dissonance, if you dare And you, breathing in Finesse an innocent From her partying Also the chorus "I'm high enough from all the waiting to ride a wave on your inhaling" reminds me of all the exercises and technique you had to do in lessons before you sing a note of the piece you've been working on. Or maybe she has been waiting for a long time to hear him sing and then she rides a wave when he's inhaling. Maybe this is about a singer that she meets at a party. He would "finesse an innocent from her partying" by capturing her attention when he sang. Perhaps he was a bit of a bad boy and that explains the verse that starts with "what part of no don't you understand?" "Hello we're back and we're taking calls" She was so distracted by him that she wasn't paying attention to what she was doing before. |

| Bruce Cockburn – Slow Down Fast Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
Does anyone think this song is a little derivative of We Didn't Start the Fire by Billy Joel? However, I can't really say Billy Joel's song was musically better. Cockburn wins the music contest hands down. |

| Barenaked Ladies – For You Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| You're a listener as well, so that would mean your opinion is equally valid. However, I disagree. I think it's about someone who cannot open up to the person he likes and he isn't displaying his real self in public because he is too afraid to. He's afraid he might not be able to open up to anyone and truly be himself and he wonders if the woman he loves can accept this. | |
| Arcade Fire – Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
Pretty obvious what this song is about. Every town you go to you will see the same stupid plaza. It will have Subway, TD, Starbucks, Walmart or Target, Shoppers, etc. The small businesses are dying, nature is dying and being taken over by grey buildings, etc. Meanwhile the people who work at these places are sapped of all humanity, creativity and artistic freedom. It's depressing to go for a walk in your neighbourhood and find that there is nothing interesting to look at. There are still a few places that are beautiful, but they are diminishing. The world is too small and soon everything will look like that same plaza repeated over and over. The city lights are calling for you to find your kind but it turns out that anyone artistic or trying to carve out a small business or do something non-corporate isn't needed anymore. Our world has completely changed, quashing anything with life. |

| Frou Frou – Breathe In Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
Okay, from reading the comments I can tell this interpretation will piss people, off, but it makes the most sense. It's about trying pot for the first time. I read you And god I'm good at it I'm so spot on She can tell that he is a stoner and yet she still chooses to hang out with him. Chord, shapes in air Go press that dissonance, if you dare Making shapes with smoke as they smoke. And you, breathing in Finesse an innocent From her partying She notices him smoking and she is curious. Maybe she doesn't know what weed is yet. He corrupts her. And I'm high enough from all the waiting To ride a wave on your inhaling She's watching him smoke and it's fascinating. She's getting high just being a witness to what he is doing. She's waiting for him to give her some. 'Cause I love you, no Can't help but love, you know I'm not sure about this part. I think either she is in love with the person who introduced her to weed or she is in love with the drug itself. What part of no don't you understand I've told you before To just get off my case This isn't happening Stop this now She's initialling refusing because it is illegal and she's afraid because she doesn't know what it will do. And I, where was I? I have to be somewhere Now where did I put it? More excuses to get out of there. She just wanted to watch, she didn't actually want to smoke any. Is this it, is this it, is this it, is this it Is this it, is this it, is this it, is this it She ends up smoking and she's wondering whether she is high. Is the feeling she's feeling a high? Yes, hello we're back, and we're taking calls Now what was the question? She's out of it and wondering what's going on because she's high. I'm high enough from all the waiting To ride a wave on your inhaling Now the meaning of this has shifted. She's waiting for him to be done toking so that she can have her hit and just the anticipation of smoking is giving her a high. She's smoking after him so she is riding a wave on his inhaling. Sorry if songs about weed bother people but that is what I made of it. I don't think the "ride a wave on your inhaling" line makes much sense in any other situation. |

| Imogen Heap – Tidal (Ellipse) Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Oh, one more thing. The title of this album is called Ellipse and the oval-shaped park in front of the White House is called The Ellipse. Spooooooky... | |
| Imogen Heap – Tidal (Ellipse) Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
For years I was confused about the lyrics just from listening to them, but once you actually read them, they make sense. Forbidden love pretty much sums this one up. However, I have a crazy theory about this song which is probably dead wrong, but interesting. I often associate Imogen Heap's music with the movie Atlantis: the Lost Empire and I like to write Atlantis fan fiction while listening to these albums. Today I was researching Washington, DC, the city in which some of the movie is set, and I couldn't help noticing a little possible symbolism in this song. 1. "Before Electric Light" The movie is set in 1914, so, yes, there was electric light, but it was still fairly new then. 2. The title "Tidal" made me think of the Tidal Basin, a famous man-made lake in Washington, DC. 3. "You paddled through the soup of darkness as a crocodile" can also refer to the Tidal Basin, since it's a lake. The "river" and "Bankside" lyrics add to this, since the Tidal Basin is technically part of the Potomac River. 4. "Cherry picking in the river": Washington, DC is famous for its cherry blossom trees, especially near the Tidal Basin. 5. "Do it for England" doesn't really make sense, since Washington, DC is basically the centre of the USA... Okay, I'll shut up now. |

| Alexisonfire – Happiness By The Kilowatt Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I know it's based on a Kurt Vonnegut short story, which I plan to read soon, but reading the lyrics, my lazy interpretation (that doesn't completely make sense) is that the person has just died or had a near-death experience and they realize "wow, that's all I'll ever accomplish or experience in life" and it's a very disappointing, empty feeling. | |
| Lorde – The Love Club Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
Yeah, it's definitely about being in a cliche/the popular crowd. The first words are "I'm in a clique but I want out." Why it's called the Love Club is because being part of the club means you get lots of "love" from your peers. Also, it looks like things take a turn for the worse toward the end of the song when your clothes are soaked and you don't know where to go. So maybe the character in the song was ditched or stood up by her friends and its raining. The whole concept reminds me of Mean Girls or the novel The Clique. Even just hearing the music of the song, it sounds like you're being introduced to a secret, kickass party with awesome stuff but the people there are shallow and mean. |

| Sarah Harmer – Everytime Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| The lyric "Steel town's light keep on glowing" makes me think it's about Hamilton (Steel Town) and all the people on the night shift at the industrial factories. | |
| Jem – It's Amazing Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
I am currently addicted to this song. Just listening to it, I thought it was a love song because I guess it had that vibe to it. However, reading the lyrics, it's obvious that it's about fulfilling your dreams despite rejection and the people that doubt you. Interestingly, I think this could also apply to fulfilling the dream of being in a relationship with a person that you are shy about approaching. The lyrics can work for that also, but I think they apply more to your career/life aspirations. |

| Circa Survive – Imaginary Enemy Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I know this is probably far from the meaning since everyone in the band is male, but it kind of reminded me of the gender wars. How guys often think feminism is about hating men and women often think men's rights is about hating women. And it's just a giant cycle of blaming each other and being each other's "imaginary enemy." And both genders think the others are privileged and that they only notice the burden and not the blessings. | |
| Rufus Wainwright – Out of the Game Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| The comment kind of made me think it was a double entendre, as in he is "out" (openly gay) and not in the "game" anymore (the dating game, not "playing for any team", etc), but the lyrics seem to suggest that it is about a speaker who has lost their youth and who is miserably watching young gay men or straight women squandering their youth by doing stupid things (maybe being too promiscuous). | |
| Gordon Downie – Chancellor Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I think it's about Insomnia (vampire, all the subconscious ramblings in the middle, etc) but my brother thinks it's about Adolf Hitler (chancellor, "the loss" of art school, etc). In my opinion, both meanings seem to work but I wonder what Gord Downie was really thinking when he wrote this... | |
| Imogen Heap – Half Life Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I think it's about dating a guy in a band, possibly a drummer because of all of the references to tempo and rhythm. The section about holding a ticket and him disappearing in a puff of smoke makes me think of a rock concert. He is distant and she thinks he might be cheating on her. She is submissive in the relationship and keeps hoping that things will get better and that he will love her but it is a half-life because she only has half of his attention/love. |
|
| Imogen Heap – The Moment I Said It Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I think it's about a husband cheating on his wife and they get into a fight and then get divorced. | |
| Imogen Heap – Wait It Out Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I think this song is just a kick in the pants to anyone who isn't following their dream. Don't stop trying to reach your goal because of past unpleasant experiences, criticism, etc. Just keep trying. Stop waiting and make it happen. I also liked the interpretation about people who simply talk about social change and don't actually do anything constructive to improve the world. |

| Sarah Harmer – Tether Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Your life is falling apart, you are losing connection with the people around you and you are holding in your sadness. That's what I get from it. | |
| The Beatles – Lovely Rita Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Definitely sounds like it's about sex. Either he did it with Rita or he had a threesome with her two sisters. The ending sounds like sex noises... Pretty hilarious. | |
| Sarah Harmer – Took It All Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I really wish I knew what this song was about because it is beautiful, but I don't know for sure. I have a couple guesses and most of them are kind of ridiculous. 1. Suicide, but they decide not to do it, because "this life's abundancy came clear." 2. Being in a bad relationship, domestic abuse. 3. The glass ceiling, sexism, etc - the chorus could be personifying the glass ceiling 4. It's random words, not supposed to make sense. And finally, this one makes the most sense and I think it makes the other ideas look stupid by comparison... Also I think Harmer made up the word "abundancy" - it only exists as a math term. LOL... 5. Poverty in undeveloped countries. We are taking all their resources, our life is abundant by comparison, we are scared and greedy out of fear, etc. |
