I've thought some more about it. I can't rule out that the words are directed only to the female listener so maybe the lyrics are more about not being stuck up about casual sex and practicing it safely - "with his satchel in his hand" "And see if he's brought along a little bag for you". |

I often grin when the chorus comes in and the words "Living in an empty world" are repeated. Seems to put on synthpop. The song is different from anything The Strokes have done before instrumentation wise with synths, congas, claves and hand claps. |

I think the Picasso analogy has some merit but saying they "string random sentences together" is going a bit far. Consider this, if the social commentary contained in this song was any less cryptic it probably wouldn't have been suitable for a single. |

The frog reference suggests it's about what might happen in a girls mind when approached by an infatuating guy. The chorus is sound advice to anyone in any situation, really:
