Sounds like he's singing about falling in love (at first sight) with a stripper who gives him lap dances. The "phone box" could be one of those glass cages in night clubs. The back room is where he gets to be alone with her. He feels guilty looking at what he "paid for" because he wants to get to know her personally. It could be that "it's all I care about" is a reference to physical attraction. "Forging the answers" means he's filling in the blanks about her life and how she feels about him. "Wait until the last move and take it too far"... he probably tries to touch her or kiss her at the end of one of her dances. "Straight from the camera" could me "straight from the eyes". |

From "Demos Vol. 2" CD insert: "Alicja wrote Part 1, Jay wrote Part 2. This was all made up on the spot except some of the lyrics. It's sorta confusing what it means, but it has to do with condensation trails and the human fear of God." |

This one seems to be pretty direct. Again though, it's sometimes hard to tell with Jay's writing whether it's 1st or 3rd person but I'm going for it anyway. It's about growing up and realizing that the values you had as a kid do not apply once you've experienced what life tends to dish you by the time you are in your 20's or even teens. High School for example seemed so important to a lot of people and now it's not even close (unless you are a teacher, then disregard this entirely ;). What you think of yourself and the world around you will change as you change and grow. I get a darker vibe from this though (as with most LS stuff) and I feel he's also telling younger people (or even addressing himself as a kid) that life gets tougher the older you get and you have no idea what you're in for. "Your problems have such easy solutions compared to what you'll be up against in the future. Trust me, I've been there and I'm here now." type thing. A frame of reference. Everything you adore will fall apart and lose it's worth and there's a shock involved in that. I think that's what he means. |

| The Lost Sounds – Bombs Over M.O.M. Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Could be about the WTC attack. About the illusion of the country (USA) being shielded both physically and mentally from the threat of any type of military attack. The mother representing the government. The bird (plane) crashed into our house, the black sky coming down (the smoke and debris) etc.. "Nobody ever asks what I think" (American citizens) "And if they did I could not speak" (votes don't make much of a difference these days) etc., etc.. Could be about terrorist attacks on anyone but I think LS dealt a lot with modern American issues. Seems like it was written from a child's perspective to represent the rather "in the dark" American public. And yes, I live in the States. Just my interpretation. I actually came here to post more lyrics. :) |

| LOL. It's a polite way of saying "people feeling shy about liking it rough because of society's moral beliefs". Thanks for your reply. :) | |

Seems like it's about someone who likes a bit of aggressive behavior in their love life. Or just someone who doesn't adhere to the societal laws of what's conventional in a relationship. Someone who is up for whatever. Or could be an observation about people thinking that the desire to mate should be structured and formal. A person who believes we are just another form of animal on this planet so why restrict ourselves in our physical relationships and adhere to any repressive rules? Seems pretty direct, but it could also be any/all of the above in a sarcastic way. |

| The Lost Sounds – Let's get sick Lyrics | 14 years ago |

My interpretation: It's about partying really heavy and finding someone who can keep up. "You're looking for a nuclear blast" - A super heavy intoxication "You're looking for something that lasts" - Someone who can tolerate the same copious amount of ingestion that you can "Dig a hole to china in your mind" - Kill some brain cells and put a big hole in your head. "Swinging on the vine" - Vines/Grapes/Alcohol/Drinking "Let's get sick let's get plastic" - Let's drink until we puke or just plain get wasted. At first I thought she was saying "Let's get blasted". "They will never see the morning after" - Blackout drunk. They'd be dead by now with the amount we've had. "They don't see the fallout disaster I'm walking through the mud And getting stuck for you" - No idea. Anyone else? Maybe "walking through the mud" is the feeling of slowing down when you drink a ton (which I believe the band did quite a lot during this era). Maybe "getting stuck for you" means she's finding a connection with someone who can party as hard as her. This is how I always took it. Never thought of it a different way. Basically, "if you're looking for someone to party hard with, I can drink you under the table... let's go!" :D |

| The Lost Sounds – Clones Don't Love Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Another one by LS that I think was written from the view of someone who is very paranoid. Possibly planning an act of terrorism. "Batteries and nails and a few short fuses" - making a bomb Clones could also be "normal people" with "normal" lives (i.e. sleeping at night). This could be about a Uni-bomber type thing or just a cathartic fantasy about threatening to kill those who look down on someone who is unique. I mean, who hasn't thought about leaving their cubicle and unloading a machine gun on everyone in the office at one point or another? ;) <- Joke |

"Some say I'm a cannibal They think I'll eat them alive But I've got no teeth to chew So you know that is a lie Some say the end is near But I think it's already here See the whole sky turn black It's worth a laugh It's worth a laugh Everything's so scary... DEATH! DEATH! DEATH! DEATH! Bright Lights surround me... THE END, THE END. There's nothing." |

| The Lost Sounds – I Sit I Watch I Wait Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
There seems to be a religious theme in this so I tend to interpret it as a description of the crucifixion and the resurrection of Christ and it being written from the perspective of a hardcore Christian who believes the end of the world as described in the Book of Revelations is near. Doomsayers basically... watching for the signs of the Rapture and waiting for the Apocalypse. "The child will die you will wait to see" - reference to the antichrist? "Be seated the gold is ripe for your retrieve" - Heaven is paved with gold. If you wait patiently, you will be rewarded with your acceptance into the Kingdom of God. "The stars, the sky, it's way too much for me" - Scientific theories or even just the unknown in regard to the Universe's creation is too difficult for me to accept or fathom so I fear it. "I sit and wait for what was once believed" - I therefore cling to what makes me feel safe and has been an ongoing established belief for centuries. "I sit I watch I wait" - The end of the world is coming and I'm watching for signs as described in Revelations. "A crown of thorns was put upon his head His blood (ran black) as it dripped down his neck The nails of sand were nailed into his hands His pain was beautiful to every child and man" - Describes the crucifixion. "Sand" could be representing time. His pain was beautiful to every child and man because it absolved them of their sins and allowed them to ask for forgiveness in the eyes of God. That's why it's said that Jesus died for our sins. Obviously this isn't a pro-religion song, but IDK if it's anti either. I just think it's describing someone who does believe and is possibly preaching and passing on his/her belief system to a child. Could be about teaching religion in schools ("be seated") which I think was a big issue at the time. |

| The Lost Sounds – I Get Nervous Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
I think this song is largely about modern paranoia in the digital age. A lot of LS songs seem to touch on that theme. "It's not inside my head, it's not inside my head" seems to have been omitted from the lyrics above (also in the liner notes of the record itself). Basically I gather that it's speaking from the point of view of a Paranoid Schizophrenic, or it's a metaphor for intrusive thoughts being pushed into the mind by excessive media intake and over-stimulation. "Those things they put inside me" could be referring to a chip or electronics that Paranoid Schizophrenics often believe has been implanted in them by the government. Could also be a general term for any sort of statement someone made to this person that cued them to think unpleasant thoughts. Diagnosed Paranoid Schizo's cannot be convinced otherwise... this is where "It's not inside my head" would fit in. "Those things they put inside me" could simply be "Those things they said to me", "The way they looked at me", or just "Human interaction makes me nervous!" Or the song could simply be about degradation of trust in humanity and it's role in our anxieties. Obviously, one of their best. |

| The Lost Sounds – And You Dance? Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
I think this song is about the Rap/Hip Hop culture in inner cities and it's relation to gun crime. Posing the question "How can you dance and drink and have a good time when the people you care about are murdering each other in the streets on a daily basis?". I know Jay lived in some pretty harsh neighborhoods and obviously it could apply to just about anywhere. I think it's meant to provoke thought and in a way it's a call to action and a huge statement about humanity and it's desensitization to violence. Could also be about the Nazi's during WW2 (hence the word 'discotheque'). Very powerful track and one of my favorites on the album. Question: "Why is the entertainment aspect of our culture largely based on death and violence?" Answer: "I don't want to think about it, let's get wasted instead." |
