| Rush – Headlong Flight Lyrics | 2 years ago |
| This song rules! One of their best. Great late-era hard rock / heavy metal from Rush. Surprised there's not more comments. Best when listened to loud "while angry or stoned" . | |
| Neil Young – Someday Lyrics | 2 years ago |
| @[jessy:46106] A little Neil Young 101: Regarding names being dropped in songs: Neil is usually pretty vague on names and who they actually are or represent. Unless he's not being vague. For example in Ohio, 10 soldiers and Nixons coming, IS actually Richard M Nixon, the President at the time. He mentions Chris Rock in a song or too and I believe he talking specifically about MR.Chris Rock. But also, he's vague and symbolic at times, with names maybe only rhyming for the song. Like, I believe Emmylou in Powderfinger is certainly NOT Emmylou Harris and it is a waste of time to go searching for meaning where there is none. 'Lenora' in Greendale, probably not anyone we would know, it just kind of worked on that album. So in this case, I really truly believe Neil Young is Not singing about a Nazi General aka "The Desert Fox" and it's pointless to try and find meaning in that association. More than likely it was his Father that took airplane rides to go meet other women (I think) and he would take off his ring when he flied because he was no longer "Married" on the plane. | |
| Richard Thompson – Guitar Heroes Lyrics | 2 years ago |
| Cool song. One of the coolest really. Trying to learn this one on guitar as well! | |

| Bob Dylan – All Along the Watchtower Lyrics | 2 years ago |
| Is there any chance Dylan wrote this song with Woody Guthrie in mind? I mean that would actually make more sense than Christ or someone else, with Woody being the SINGLE MOST profound influence on Bob Dylan's music at that point. Woody Guthrie sort of looked like the "Joker" and Bob Dylan was the Thief of Woody's music. Ruminating with his Fallen Hero about Existentialism would be something great to write about. I like to think that maybe when Woody died, Dylan was like , "I am going to write the most out there and spooky song anyone has ever heard" and it worked! | |
| Neil Young – Pocahontas Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| @[vchamberlain:45069] not really, I always thought of him handing over the pelts to the chief or father as may have been the custom. Who knows? | |
| The Beatles – Another Girl Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| You folks are being too hard on Sir Paul, personally! I listened to this song while stoned and it seemed almost obvious he is singing about weed. Yes he was tired of the drama with real human relationships but it was fine because he had gotten Another Girl, wink wink. | |
| Neil Young – War Of Man Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| Wow, no comments? This one is as good as all the other ones... | |
| Rush – The Fountain Of Lamneth Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| @[Stickymongoose:41052] You are probably a Frank Zappa fan as well. Please see the Grateful Dead\'s Steal Your Face logo and make note of the large lightning bolt between the skulls eyes. This is what \'eyes open very wide\' is referring to and, yes, the writers and performers of this song were experienced LSD users, probably high on acid while recording it and certainly during the writing process. So yes, sex, drugs and rock and roll was the overwhelming theme of this great epic track. | |
| Rush – The Fountain Of Lamneth Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| @[BMaloney:41051] This song is about taking LSD, written and performed by experienced LSD users. The intended audience were people who were open to experimenting with LSD and the psychedelic journey that they faced. There are so many obvious LSD references, that they probably wanted to call the song \'Fountain of Lysergic\' but their record company made them change the name. Sorry all you Frank Zappa followers, but this song was about dropping acid and also happens to be masterpiece of the prog rock genre. So, with that understanding, you can try to look into the lyrics for all the messages, which is great fun, but keep in mind, it is a powerful and multi-polar epic song resembling an acid trip in it\'s structure. Here we go:\r\nI feel the first part is not a baby or a newborn, but rather, a college age Freshman who has a paid-for college tuition and is ready to party and meet girls, etc. In those days, that was a pretty common experience for youths emerging from their parents homes. In that, they are open to experimenting with the \'Eye opening\' drugs that were becoming more common and available at the time. Although still highly illicit and dangerous from a law enforcement standpoint, soon the LSD could not be stopped. The one that soothes and feeds me, on the surface, could be the child\'s mother, but from a psychedelic standpoint, that could be the person\'s \'guide\' on their trip. At the time, and probably still today, it was always recommended that one must have a guide while taking acid or mushrooms. That guide should be an experienced user, with various shamanic roles and the ability to \'talk down\' the new user if things get weird. That makes perfect sense with the lyrics of this song, which was produced to entertain and accompany the people who were becoming Rush fans (and taking LSD and other drugs.). The part that is weird is the \'Panacea\' part. Obviously, on the surface, our college age LSD user has found a girlfriend/wife/ or lost his virginity, etc to this soft handed chick. That makes sense, but I have never ever referred to my wife/girlfriend as a Panacea because that word doesn\'t really apply except to the most cynical of thinkers. A panacea is more of a tonic or potion used to cure ones ill\'s. Not a female at all. So the Panacea liquid grace is not some chick named Grace but more likely a vial of liquid LSD, a potent form, Anyway, that\'s all the time I have for this, Have fun listening to and dissecting this epic prog rock track, all 19 glorious minutes. And have a safe trip! | |

| Neil Young – Ride My Llama Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| This is just a weird song that sort of makes one speechless and wondering the strange mind of Neil Young and how he comes up with this shit. Great tune, I just have no idea what this could be about... a man from Mars I guess? huh? | |

| The Beach Boys – Don't Talk (Put Your Head on My Shoulder) Lyrics | 6 years ago |
| @[Lafrowna:31630] Yes, I agree. It's like, who thinks Wouldn't it Be Nice is a happy song, when to me it sounds like a doomed relationship song. Very complicated! | |
| Neil Young – Spirit Road Lyrics | 6 years ago |
| This is a great song. Long, dirge like and perfect. I wish I knew what it meant. | |
| Genesis – Let Us Now Make Love Lyrics | 6 years ago |

| @[andrewwoolf:25716] dude why comment on a Phil collins led song and then proceed to dis the man. Go back to In Your Eyes in the Peter Gabriel section. | |
| Kansas – Section 60 Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| Section 60 is the section of Arlington Cemetery devoted to Iraq and Afghan veteran burials. Somber tune, great tune. | |
| Genesis – Duchess Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| @[SusanBassPlayer:6008] : Most albums from the 1970's were "concept" albums or even rock operas, if you will. Duke was indeed in that mold. | |
| Grateful Dead – The Wheel Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| I found a strange connection in that the title of the song is also the first known invention for mankind. So the wheel keeps turning . I thought maybe it was a call-out to people who believe progress can be stopped. For example nuclear disarmament or genetic science is just not possible to contain. The wheel can't slow down. This contradicts the hippy ness of the tune. | |
| Genesis – Illegal Alien Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| Ya know, as stupid and racist as this song was in the eighties, ya gotta hand it to genesis for writing a semi political song thirty years ago that is more relevant than ever. You would think society would have figured out a solution to the "illegal alien" question. | |
| Genesis – Congo Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| Take a second or third listen. It's pretty good! | |
| Genesis – Uncertain Weather Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| This is an incredible album, more similar to the "old stuff" than We Can't Dance, etc. I am glad I took a listen because this might be my new favorite. This song is similar in theme to "Snowman" from ATTWT. | |
| Merle Haggard – Rainbow Stew Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Pretty good explanation but the actual lyric is free 'bubble ubb' which I think is Merle haggard's Bakersfield hobo way of saying free beer. | |
| Grateful Dead – I Need A Miracle Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| GD Version of a prayer | |
| Phil Collins – Inside Out Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Collins was a bit overexposed in the eighties. This song maybe is addressing his going solo and heading towards larger riches, which he did. Nice song from an underrated album. | |
| Genesis – In Limbo Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Very modern sounding track despite being from 1968. Very fresh. | |
| Grateful Dead – Weather Report (Part 2)/Let It Grow Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Except this was John Barlow and Bob Weir. I don't think Hunter had anything to do with this one. Good post though! | |
| Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – Shadowland Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Cheesy tune from the heart of the 80's. Horrible keyboard noises, but look at the lyrics in light of todays military conflicts. Very Apocolyptic and eerie. | |
| Genesis – Get 'em Out By Friday Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Winkler may be a reference to Chicago mobster Gus Winkler who was famous for being on the safe end of the machine gun at the St. valentines massacre. The song "Battle of Epping Forest" has many references to thugs and extortionists, so Peter may have had knowledge of this history | |
| Neil Young – Bandit Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Saw this one during the GREENDALE tour. I imagine this was the first time hearing these songs by most of the people because it was all brand new. I have never experienced 20,000 people so quiet at one time, just Neil playing acoustic guitar. Completely mesmorizing. | |
| Genesis – Jesus He Knows Me Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| This is the Guarenteed Eternal Sanctuary Man making another appearance. | |
| Genesis – Cul-de-Sac Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| wow, thanks for the insight. I honestly never thought this one was so intense, but I see your point. | |
| Genesis – Duke's Travels Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Thanks for the insight. Its funny how their lyrics seem very simple at times, like about a breakup or a chick or whatever, but then there are interpretors like you who add a very deep, often disturbing but ultimately intriguing explanation. | |
| Genesis – Cuckoo Cocoon Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Wow. I thought it may have been about the birth process. | |
| Genesis – Mama Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I wouldn't take the various members explanations at 'Face Value' , pun intended. Inspiration may come from various sources all at the same time. This song may be inspired by a prostitute, or maybe God or maybe its a song about abortion. But I doubt the songwriters are going to say, "yeah, thats our secret". Probably a simple explanation like , yeah this is about a prostitute, makes it easier to talk to the media or whomever, but don't let that discourage your search for meaning in the art. | |
