Chevelle – Another Know It All Lyrics 12 years ago
I think it is referencing the lack of free thinkers in our society and how easily and sometimes even subconsciously influenced we can be. We often just accept what the collective 'they' says or the messages that mass media unceasingly pound our skull with, but it could even be that we are shaped by our environments or just take the things our parents taught us on faith even if they are wrong and we fail to question them or make our beliefs our own - "Damn your so dull, still need to borrow your hate" sounds like someone unable to conjure an original thought."He sat holding several thoughts, I'll take anything that's not bolted down" I think this alludes to the fact that just about everything in this world comes with a catch or is contaminated and impure and he is declaring he'll take anything that is free of those contaminations (not bolted down) For me the only free thought is God because he is the creator and origin of all but everything after that from pure falsehoods like evolution to religion is contaminated by man.

I can see the logic behind people thinking this song is about their brother but it's not true because he was still with the band on this album and even toured behind the album...I saw them in concert and he was there and they played this song. It could be about record labels but they wrote a scathing song about record labels already (Wonder What's Next)

Awolnation – Sail Lyrics 13 years ago
I never watch tv nor waste my life away on youtube etc. but I had to watch this video and now I'm even more confused about what this song is about. A previous post made reference about their child having a disorder and I can see how the lyrics could take that angle as well about having a condition where you think no one understands you or being unable to reach a person. 'Maybe I'm a different breed' suggests an inability to fit in (this could potentially be a good or bad thing however) and 'sail with me into the dark' suggests an invitation into their world where they cannot reach anyone and do not fit in or have trouble coping.

correction in my previous post, I 'addition' should be 'addiction' I think we are all addicts and have things we binge on...some are just more destructive than others...we are all trying to fill the void. I filled mine with Jesus and I'm cool now. Also, I saw a great post earlier that alluded to the bands name AWOLnation (absent without leave) which lends credibility to the speculation the song is about modern society and how 'out of their minds' the masses generally are and how we seem unable to take responsibility for our actions. 'Sail with me into the dark' doesn't sound like we are escaping but plunging into an abyss where things are not going to be that great...where the world seems to be heading.

add baby? seriously...lol that doesn't make any sense!?! I'm sure I could be clinically diagnosed with ADD but I think the fact is a lot of people probably can. I'm honestly not sure what he is getting at...could go so many different directions. Could be just wanting to escape it all..is he using his ADD as a cop out for something he intentionallly did...this sounds a lot like modern day society...not taking responsibility for our actions. Modern science has created a cop out or excuse for our behavior for just about everything. They cannot control their depression, they are chemically imbalanced. Shift work disorder...what? Anything to sell some more drugs, huh? How about my favorite addition is a disease and its always there and you can never beat it. I'm not even sure where I'm going but anyways...great band great album; this is the most original and fresh music I've heard in a few years.

I agree..where are all the posts for this song? Outstanding track from start to finish...melody, riffs, lyrics, and drums. This song is my anthem. I cannot wait for True Defiance...these guys just keep getting better and better. Best metal band in the Christian scene and one of THE best metal bands on the whole PERIOD.

Man this is a great song and my favorite off the album...honestly I love Chevelle's heavy edge which is largely absent from this album but it is not really missed when they write songs this good. I love the line 'I don't belong here, don't fit your style' this is how I feel for most of the day every day.

Thrice – Yellow Belly Lyrics 13 years ago
alright cool I was wondering about the meaning of this song too but my hypothesis was confirmed that it is about abusive parents. I originally thought it was just about how the world in general is such a dangerous place for children but once you get to the line about hiding in the closet it is a clear reference to a more specific situation. The most aggressive song on the album but still has great melody to go with good lyrics. This is why we like Thrice so much...love this album!

Thrice – Disarmed Lyrics 13 years ago
this song is beautiful indeed...the harmonization at the end with the guitars and layered vocals is awesome. It just makes me picture approaching the gates of heaven and Christ after death. I'm so used to all the Thrice song threads on this site being a debate over whether the song is of secular or spiritual origins, but I guess it is stated so poignantly and blatantly that is not so on this song. Maybe the song just hasn't been out long enough. Clearly about how through Christ even death holds no fear for us. This is one of their best songs yet. This album on the whole to me sounds like a blend of Vheissu and Beggars...my favorite Thrice song since Firebreather.

Paper Route – Are We All Forgotten Lyrics 14 years ago
Right on freakingchic. I love this song as well and bought it off Itunes after hearing on the radio; at first I thought it was a straight-forward love song hearing the chorus 'don't you break my heart' After reading the rest of the lyrics I see its talking about another kind of love altogether. 'Years ago I met my lover on the banks of the stormy Jordan' - Christ was baptized in the Jordan River. On the whole the song just talks about how God meant something to him at a point earlier in life, but he lost it somewhere along the way which is not hard to do with all the garbage this world throws at you. Society on the whole has collectively left God behind; God used to be the fabric of our existence but now God is just something a some people do on the side. I think he is reflecting on the fact that God created us, and in his image in fact; and if we lost sight of that and how much value it carries we have lost part of our identity and our ability to love completely as God is the origin of love. The line at the end of the second verse says it all 'if we've all forgotten You, are we all forgotten to?'
