The song "Backslider" is a rant about Lewis' (Todd Lewis, lead vocals) youth. "My father is a Southern Baptist preacher." he said, "I was a little religious boy who went to church all the time. My parents swore by the work ethic which says if you're not miserable all the time, then you're fucking off. So I decided I was gonna fuck off."

Agreed. I think anybody actually getting killed here is somebody trying too hard to channel 'Possum Kingdom'. She has left him, and he's devastated. So he keeps little mementos of her's around, to remind himself of the happier times they shared together. He's being a bit obsessive with his wishful thinking and nostalgia, but I don't get any murderous vibes here. |

Agreed. A lot of the album feels like it's about the vocalist having a crisis of faith, and struggling with his Baptist upbringing as an adult. It also sounds like there is an indictment against organized religion in there. "feel the lick of / bad religion / the finish and the start / in the beginning / we where smarter / the flame was heaven sent / through the ages / we got stupid / now we must repent". I take that to mean that religion was more pure, back when the message came directly from God. But now so many layers have been added to it, detracting from the original pure message. The message has been tainted by the belief structures man built around them. |

I have to throw my hat in with the 'messy breakup' crowd. It sounds like she ended the relationship, even though he thinks he bent over backwards for her. So the chorus refers to her "Lover!", and asks "Are you happy now?". He then accuses her of being a "Quiter!". The whole song, title included, is an accusation against her. |

I agree. Especially with the feel of the rest of the album and the themes that seem to permeate it. Mr. Love is Jesus, and these are the questions that the singer is seeking the answers to. It almost sounds like he's having a crisis of faith, and want's what he learned as a child to be reinforced (see 'Backslider'). |

| Toadies – Little Sin Lyrics

I believe that it's about a girl that has lost her virginity to her boyfriend. Now that she's committed that "little sin", she's a "free soul". They've lost "our innocence, our tenderness". But now that it's happened, the girl enjoys it. She enjoys toying around with her boyfriend, but he's on to her little games. She's changed, now they're one and the same (they're no longer virgins), and they can no longer fight "that little sin"; i.e. they continue to enjoy sex, which when out of wedlock, is looked down upon by most Christian denominations. Keeping in mind that the vocalist was raised Basptist, but he had a falling out of sorts with it. Just look up the lyrics for 'Backslider'. |
