| Primus – Hellbound 17 1/2 (Theme From) Lyrics
| 13 years ago
|
|
I like how philosophical it starts off, pondering questions that deserve answers and the action taken that follows those answers. Realizing that we are only miniscule fractions of the entire human population. Wondering if there is a heaven or a hell. And then being distracted simply by the possible smell of a tuna melt. |

Knowing Primus, this story could be true lol. If so they did a good job with it, definitely sounds like it could be the theme for some weird show or movie. |

| Primus – Fish On (Fisherman Chronicles, Pt. 2) Lyrics
| 13 years ago
|
The intro to this song is so awesome. I think the song is pretty much just about Les' various fishing expeditions with Ler, his dad, Todd Huth, and other people in his life. Les also tells the story about catching a monstrous sturgeon on 20 lb test in his book "South of the Pumphouse" as the whole story is about going after the "big one" and I've also seen interviews from around the time this album came out where he talks about that very day and CLAIMS its a true story.
I don't know, and not gonna decide that, all I know is this song is great and gives you a great mental image of dudes chilling out on the boat eating some Doritos. |

| Primus – American Life Lyrics
|
|
I really love this song. I think it's about how we all strive for this American life, or the "American dream" that immigrants flock to and we spend our whole life chasing it, but it's not always what we were made to believe. Sometimes we end up living in a cardboard box collecting aluminum cans. |

| Cake – Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps (Doris Day cover) Lyrics
| 13 years ago
|
Tired of being given the runaround, he just wants to know if she loves him. He wants to know where she's at mentally so he knows how much he should put into the relationship "If you don't make your mind up, we'll never get started, and I don't wanna wind up, being parted, broken-hearted"
He doesn't wanna put his heart into it if she's not gonna do the same and just break his heart.
I love this song! Great cover that in my opinion could stand on its own. |

This song doesn't even need lyrics. Just listening to it, you can hear the sailor setting sail on the sea. It's a beautiful work that feeds the imagination. |

| Les Claypool and the Holy Mackeral – Running The Guantlet Lyrics
| 14 years ago
|
Lmao at the interpretations, I agree with Hylonomus. "If I played any faster, my tendons would freeze." I play nowhere near the speed that Les does and my tendons feel like their gonna freeze or lock up
On a side note the song sounds vaguely similar to Over the Falls. Doesn't change the fact that it's an awesome song. |

The good and bad of the gun, and unfortunately Johnny in the story isn't the only child to suffer this fate
I think no matter how much I practice and play and work on my ability to play bass, I will never be able to play this song... |

I don't know how Les thought of this song, the lyrics, and the flow of the lyrics but it's great and fun to listen to |

| Primus – Hennepin Crawler Lyrics

Had no idea what a Hennepin Crawler was til I looked it up and recognized it immediately
Can see why it would impress the steam punk girls. Still not sure about what the song is about if there is a "deeper meaning" or just Les rambling. But I think there's always a method to his madness, anybody else got ideas?

| Primus – Extinction Burst Lyrics

Seems like its about taking a last stand, or an "extinction burst". Like a shining moment in the face of your enemies or your problems (in the face of all you disdain you will burn so bright) where you "get up on your heels and fight" back.
Love the references to pitcher Randy Johnson (he does throw a hard fastball) and Takeru Kobayashi the former hot dog eating champion (or reigning according to Kobayashi himself lol) |

I'm just guessing its about weed? lol Listening to the song, the atmosphere the music makes, it seems like it's some kinda drug lol.
And I do know that Les' right ear really does ring and he has problems with hearing that side |

Lulls you into a face pounding in Hennepin, awesome intro track, can definitely see it having a nice part in a live set. Thinking about that as I listen to it now, I think they did use it on this past summer tour, like when Les would first talk to the crowd (Helloo beautiful people of ______) atleast thats how I remember it at one of the concerts. Anywho, I think would fit in nicely at any point, but I tend to ramble so I'll just go on to the next song lol

| Primus – Jilly's On Smack Lyrics

Jilly's a determined girl who left home and did well but a long the way met up with the wrong guy (took a junkie lover) and she herself became an addict.
Fell in love with this song first time I heard it live, thanks to Ler's amazing guitar work. Jay is also great, but instrumentally Larry is the star of this song. Kinda creepy, horror film sounding. Me Like it :)
Have no clue how to type what Les rambles after the second verse, but it sounds hilarious. |

| Primus – Eyes of the Squirrel Lyrics

This song just seems to be about everything society pays attention to: Politics, news, celebrity gossip, sports, viral videos...
I wonder if he's referring to anyone specifically with the "N-word pass", and it's easy to recognize the BP Spill in the song. "Anyone for battered for shrimp?" Is just hilarious! But unfortunately true about a lot of the sea life in the gulf .
Jay's drumming in the song reminds me somewhat of Spegetti. I saw them live twice this summer and each time they played this song at the beginning I was getting ready for "Why do we do this?". But the drum part at the end is amazing, Jay Lane, welcome back to Primus!

| Primus – Tragedy's A-Comin' Lyrics

|
"She stands before us with Bible in her grasp
When she opens her mouth up you can hear the wretched rasp
Like a bucket of barnacles she's abrasive to the skin
Like the ignorant masses that hope some day she'll win"
Makes me think of Sarah Palin (which wouldn't be a surprise coming from Les). For funny-ness listen closely at the end you can hear a dog barking, at least what sounds like it.
Also, Mr. Larry LaLonde can play a mean guitar, in case you were unaware of this. |

This song is awesome! In my opinion it could fit on Pork Soda or Punch Bowl. Its another sequel of the Fisherman Chronicles. Seems to tell the story of Jimmy Mac who is a fisherman as his father and his father's father was in an area where the water and fish are being depleted |

| Primus – Wounded Knee Lyrics
|
Always liked this song but wondered if the title had anything to do with the horrible events at Wounded Knee and according to an interview I recently read Tim says it was.
"I needed a name. I was reading this book called "Bury my Heart At Wounded Knee. It was something I never really thought about before... I mean how this country came to be. We are taught to be sop proud. But a lot of what we have is based on lies and deceit. They only teach you what they want you to know. I hope people will see the title and check it out. Next time you listen to `Wounded Knee', try and put the story and the music together. The rhythm and the pulse, there is an element of it that is angry then peaceful." |
