Barry Manilow – Even Now Lyrics 4 years ago
@[gillyboy:37346] five years on, here we are! I agree with you. But, I think we see meanings as they relate to our personal lives. I saw this as moving away from a love "that wasnʻt right", because at one time it fit. I was married to another for nearly 20 years. Then 40 years after we parted we got back together and heʻs since died. I hear exactly what you heard.

Linda Ronstadt – Long Long Time Lyrics 8 years ago
@[jotokai:21246] Here we are 7 more years later. I first heard this song at about the same time as Dolly Partonʻs "I Will Always Love You". This one has always seemed to have more truth to it since most people do move on at some point, even if thereʻs a trace of the old yearning. But, when the heart hangs in there it can, indeed, take a long, long time.

I think she still cares - but is no longer in love. He wasn't necessarily rotten to her - sometimes as people grow older they change, they have different dreams, they grow apart. She cries now for the death of a dream of a life together, the death of what might have been. It's gone and she knows it - he hasn't accepted it yet. And yes, it's beautifully tragic and haunting. Unheralded, I think this is the best song Paul and John ever wrote (and to me that's saying something).

I keep reading about the french horn solo in this recording. For a more haunting quality, I especially like the cover by EmmyLou Harris. She is backed by piano, strings and..harp. "In her eyes you see nothing ... no sign of love behind the tears cried for no one." The death of love itself. What can be sadder. She feels the loss as much as he does but he hasn't accepted the reality yet.

Yes, she's suffering as much loss as he is. The death of love. Maybe he didn't screw up. Maybe they just grew apart as they grew older. It happens...often. What can be sadder.

Bob Dylan – Tomorrow Is a Long Time Lyrics 14 years ago
I agree with "wantobeready". For some reason I hadn't heard it until recently - after my husband died. And that's how I felt about it. We were separated for over 40 years and found each other again. He died 6 months after we married. To find each other, to have that chance to be together was extraordinary, but there was never a moment of doubt all those years. I know how lucky I am to have known that kind of love. "Tomorrow is a Long Time" tells that story. She was the world to him and now she's gone. In the end, he will "lie" in his bed "if only" she's lying with him once again. He will not lie with another.
To me the song is profoundly sad.
