A great song of a love lost.....or is it? I think that the former girlfriend (or boyfriend) depending on the way you look at it, has passed away. When you look a the lyrics, it fits. One line in the song ''and the world has changed so much since you've been gone'' is a hint. It's not 'my' world it's 'the' world which to me, means that he/she has died.
@gillyboy five years on, here we are! I agree with you. But, I think we see meanings as they relate to our personal lives. I saw this as moving away from a love "that wasnʻt right", because at one time it fit. I was married to another for nearly 20 years. Then 40 years after we parted we got back together and heʻs since died. I hear exactly what you heard.

This song gets me every time I hear it. If you have ever been in that place about someone it hits so close to home. But, even if the person knew you were thinking about them (or if they had been thinking about you the same way), what difference would it make? What would it change?
