| Panic! at the Disco – Death of a Bachelor Lyrics | 9 years ago |

I think this song (and really the whole album by the same name) is about getting married and the changes that brings about in life. Obviously, it's all pushed on to a character, though i'm sure much of the source for this comes from Brendon Urie's marriage to Sarah Orzechowski back in 2013. Having decided to get married, he's chosen to mature, to make more serious decisions going forward etc. and it shows (I see the shadows on my face, People have told me I don't look the same, Maybe I lost weight). His friends are asking why he doesn't come out as much as he used to (Do I look lonely?) when he clearly used to be a party animal (Victorious and Don't threaten me with a good time). He's seeing his fiancee instead of his friends (I'm playing hooky, with the best of the best) and he want's her to know that she's his priority now (Put my heart on my chest, so that you can see it too). Even though it's scaring him, to commit to all these changes, (I'm walking the long road, watching the sky fall), even though the concept of marriage if terrifying to the modern bachelor (The lace in your dress tingles my neck) he knows this is exactly what he's going to do: it's as easy as dying (how do I live?). The chorus makes it simple. A wedding is literally (The death of a bachelor), the end of a man being a singleton, party animal. This final, natural thing (Letting the water fall) is what has to happen for him to get what he wants out of life (Seems so fitting for, Happily ever after, How could I ask for more? A lifetime of laughter At the expense of the death of a bachelor) He has to calm himself down, his mind is racing, he's nervous, but he knows deep down this is exactly what he wants (I'm cutting my mind off It feels like my heart is going to burst). When he would have been out picking up girls he's now happy to just go out for a drink instead of always hitting on someone (Alone at a table for two and I just wanna be served). He casts his mind back to relationships and those flings in his past, and in typical P!atd fashion (I've got more wit, a better kiss, a hotter touch, a better fuck. Than any boy you'll ever meet, sweetie you had me) gives them a little barb about how they wish he was still with them (And when you think of me am I the best you've ever had? Share one more drink with me, smile even though you're sad) From there it's just the chorus x2 So yeah, i think this track in particular is about him settling in to the fact that he's giving up what he's had for a better future with his wife. |

Just one tiny error "Now men with purple hearts carry silver guns And they'll kill a man for what his father's done But what my father did, you know it don't mean shit I'm not him" |

To me, this song has always been about having sex with someone (See how we spin, we dance, like marionettes, in 3/4 time, our thread bare strings entwined. You and I, are tied up limbs, skin against skin) and then realising it was a mistake. As both parties are then trying to get to sleep after, they are kept awake by the ramifications of what they have done. If they could sleep they would be able to not think about it until they could part in the morning, but now they are kept awake thinking about it (She said, "If I fall asleep before you, would you leave me be; I can't handle waiting, anticipating, so I pray that I fall deep"). The act destroys whatever relationship they did have and leaves them wondering if they will be able to salvage anything from the wreckage (Since then there's been a taste so sour in the sound of two marionettes, tumbling to the ground. The strings come untied, they break they unwind. What will we make? What will we make of these scattered remains) |

We kicked our shoes off Can you feel the ground beneath you shift? All I need, is time and space to breathe At either side of this deep rift At 4,15, it looked like rain Your eyes were burning holes through me Your eyes, this fire in your eyes Your eyes, are burning holes through me She said; If I fall asleep before you, would you leave me be I can't handle waiting, anticipating So I pray that I fall deep. And the lights have burned out a little early. Oh winter It came quick I will burn bright through the early hours If only we could sleep See how we spin, we dance, like marionettes In 3, 4 time, our thread bare strings entwined You and I, are tied up limbs, skin against skin I'm shaking like a child You turn, and you turn and the pages remain like our outlines in this gloom, become one I'm shaking like a child Oh no, I know I can't take it These sugared pills will always taste like shit I'll fire poison darts and break this spell that's wrapped around me But in one fell swoop, every dart would miss you and rid you clear of me I will burn bright through the early hours Oh darling leave me be See how we spin, we dance, like marionettes In 3, 4 time, our thread bare strings entwined You and I, are tied up limbs, skin against skin I'm shaking like a child Since then there's been a taste So sour in the sound Of two marionettes, tumbling to the ground The strings come untied, they break they unwind. What will we make? What will we make? Of these scattered remains. See how we spin, we dance, like marionettes In 3/4 time, our thread bare strings entwined You and I, are tied up limbs, skin against skin Skin against skin |
