I'm a little shocked, it seems to have some references to other musicals. The song calls to mind Man of La Mancha, yes, but parts of it sound like This is the Moment from Jekyll and Hyde and Les Mis. I didn't realize TMBG had such interests... |

Wow, you guys.
I thought this was less a damning of humanity than it was a yearning for adventure. "Bone" can refer to something that is deep in ourselves, our inner curiosity that has helped us leave the "arboreality" we spurned for another new adventure. I see the whole sea cow thing as a metaphor for our desire to explore. This is more of a theme to Star Trek than a desire to return to the simplicity of our primate pasts. |

This seems to be about just jumping into things, the desire to just try something out instead of trying to understanding all of the facts first to reduce the chance of anything bad happening. |

"A cephalophore (from the Greek for "head-carrier") is a saint who is generally depicted carrying his or her own head; in art, this was usually meant to signify that the subject in question had been martyred by beheading. Handling the halo in this circumstance offers a unique challenge for the artist. Some put the halo where the head used to be; others have the saint carrying the halo along with the head." from Wikipedia.
At any rate, a really weird song. I'd hazard that it is about a guy who really hates a woman who really, really wronged him. It also works on a political level: she backs some cause but refuses to go to the extent of "dying" for her faith like so many cephalophores before her. |
