The World/Inferno Friendship Society – So Long to the Circus Lyrics 14 years ago
Also, he wasn't beheaded when he killed his girlfriend's father, he had to be apprehended and sent to the city to be executed first. No point in trying to behead a body that had no head, lol.

The World/Inferno Friendship Society – So Long to the Circus Lyrics 14 years ago
This song always brings a tear to my eye... It's also the song that I first heard from Inferno.

Strange fact coinciding with FastFallerSky's story, in the film Mad Love(starring Peter Lorre), Rollo the knife thrower was beheaded for killing his girlfriend's father(they all worked in a Circus), I believe. He was then apprehended by the police. When the time came for his execution, he was actually kind of calm about it, in a particularly funny way, which makes me think about how calm and accepting Jack sounds when he says the last "It's time to get gone"....

Also, strangely, the line "I lit it like a stage and I gave it like a gift" is similar to a line in Jeffrey Lee. Also ironic because Inferno used to perform unauthorized pyrotechnics at shows, sometimes almost(accidentally or purposely) catching the building on fire.

It's also about a punk band being broken up because something one of the band members did to involve the cops and security.

All of these references sort of amass into a sort of prophetic ending of Inferno, or it could at least be interpreted as such. "As much as I don't want to remember this and how I wish it would last forever, let me put it another way. I know you're hoping for some permanence but there really is no place for this, your tattoos- they're gonna fade." And I know a lot of Infernites who got tatoos referencing Inferno. Somehow, they seem to know it's going to end very dramatically. So sad, yet probably true....

The World/Inferno Friendship Society – M Is For Morphine Lyrics 14 years ago
The lyrics are pretty self explanatory, but what I find somewhat odd is the first 3 films Lorre starred in began with an "M"(M, Mad Love, and The Man Who Knew Too much. Usually when books or movies alphabetized, "The" is put at the end, like "Man Who Knew Too Much, The").

The World/Inferno Friendship Society – Hothouse Flowers Lyrics 14 years ago
It's also about the strange way we all grow up. Some of us spent our childhoods outside, others(like Terricloth) were somewhat antisocial and spent our time indoors for the most part until we hit our teens, which is where we start acting on our punk instincts(shoplifting, sometimes running away from home, others try to endure and end up spending their time in their rooms, until they do something crazy).

The punk life isn't for everyone, but everyone in the Inferno scene seems to have a connection that is well hidden and strong enough to keep us together, come hell or high water.

The World/Inferno Friendship Society – Jerusalem Boys Lyrics 14 years ago
Um, in these lyrics, I think they spelled Jerusalem in it's Hebrew format.

Basically, the song is about someone who runs away from home and starts a nomadic life, similar to the content of Ladies and Gentlemen of the Road. He's fed up with what his parents and others expected of him and he's going to live in his own standards. He's living like a stray cat, experiencing the best and worst life can bring.

The World/Inferno Friendship Society – Ladies & Gentlemen of the Road Lyrics 14 years ago
The life it describes is that of a modern nomadic-punk. It's about living a recklessly, beautiful life. Life is an all ages show because its truly for all ages. It should be enjoyed thoroughly and from beginning to end. Of course, you gotta be able to think fast and be quick on your feet, so going out on your own probably isn't a good idea to when you're twelve.

The World/Inferno Friendship Society – Brother of the Mayor of Bridgewater Lyrics 14 years ago
I understand what Idsaysgo is saying. I still disagree, but it is equally important to know what the song means to you and what its true meaning(as in what the writer intended it to be) is. And I think KingInYellow hit the fucking bullseye on the meaning of this song.

The World/Inferno Friendship Society – Brother of the Mayor of Bridgewater Lyrics 14 years ago
I think I might know who the Brother to the Mayor of Bridgewater is. At the Nashville show, I remember Jack and everyone else screaming CIRCLE THAT A, MOTHERFUCKER(a RAMBO song) right before starting up Brother to the Mayor of Bridgewater. Maybe its about something else, but nothing else seems to really fit.

The World/Inferno Friendship Society – A Night In The Woods Lyrics 14 years ago
The Bridgewater Astral League was a gang of kids who could astral project back in the 80's. They were also poetic terrorists, as can be seen in some of their actions("they'd break into your house just to move things around and sometimes they'd leave you something", also the fact that they talk in a poetic format in Incediarism, and that they did crime in the name of poetry, not greed).

This song has Dante Aligheri(who was a member of the League) explaining at the beginning of the song that he plans to outlive his enemies(he had to flee Florence because of political enemies). He is telling this story to a 17 year old by the name of Joe Tennis, who works for Dante right now, as Dante had to return to his grassroots after running for president(this is covered in Our Candidate). Joe is heading to a dead end in his life of probably being a thug for the rest of his life, and the only likely candidate to talk him into living in a life in an endless world of possibilities, as Joe holds him in high esteem as a sort of hero, because Dante went through Hell, Heaven, Purgatory, and then back.

The World/Inferno Friendship Society – Addicted to Bad Ideas Lyrics 14 years ago
This song is about Peter Lorre's addiction to morphine and his addiction to bad ideas(He left the U.S., tired of being cast as a villain, even stating once that he didn't want to be remembered as a monster, which is what the song quotes constantly with "I wasn't always a monster, I was prince/saint").

"Though I have grown older & graver, the great heart of the world remains ever young.
I wasn't always a monster, I was a prince.
Now, so broken, so."

He got old, but the world still retained its beauty and magnificence. He's being remembered as a monster, when he truly wasn't and didn't want to be. He left Germany after a play he starred in was seen as too dark for Germany at the time. He returned to the U.S., broken in heart and soul.

The chorus is what a would say to those who would ask him why he did drugs(Because I can, 'Cause no one can stop me. Because it makes up for things I've lost). And what did he lose? His career and his dream of being remembered as not just the creepy villain. But he did everything that was great in the 20th century, from drugs to being a celebrity.

"To fail and live long..."
He lived a pretty long life. He did a lot of things, but died a heartbroken man, trying to achieve his dreams. He could have just gone along with what Hollywood wanted him to be, a dark vilified monster, but he strove away towards his goal, and failed miserably. That's why he is important, out of all the people in the 20th century. He lived all his life practically trying not to be great when he could have been.

This song is the epitome of his morphine muddled mind, caught between self hate and love of the world around him.

The World/Inferno Friendship Society – Glamour Ghouls Lyrics 14 years ago
I can't remember where I it, but I read somewhere that this song is about Jonathon Fire*Eater.

Also,

Glamour ghouls got great hype
but that's all they really have

Jonathon Fire*Eater had a lot of hype before they broke up.
