Isadore or Isidore translates to the "gift of Isis" in Greek. Isis is the goddess of "motherhood, magic, infertility." So, I think it could be that Isadore is her unborn child, and she's going to lose him. (have a miscarriage) But she tried so hard to get pregnant, and she doesn't want him to go- because she believes he's going to be this great saint for the world. But she ends up having a miscarriage anyway. (death is her worst fear). The line: "It's not who you were, it's who you are" could relate to how she got around before becoming pregnant but this baby in the womb changed her. OR I saw Isadore as a "saint" or "spirituality" she believed him. She gave her life to God, or whoever she believed, and he forgave all her sins of who she was, and thought because of who she is currently, she'll be saved. But then, she dies, and realizes her worst fears: 1) that death is inevitable and 2) that there is no heaven and she dies alone, without her faith. (only one parachute) So, it could be that all religion just leaves you empty alone after death- it's not real. |
