| Primus – Bob Lyrics | 9 years ago |

May not be how Les meant it, but here's my interpretation based on the fact that Les has said that "My Name Is Mud" is the story of a tweeker who killed his friend with a baseball bat. Perhaps in the last line when he says " Me, I've never been back to the apartment where he lived" was because he was the one who hung the guy for insulting him (" He praised my creativity, though he spoke sarcastically"). Maybe I'm way off, but I think it's a fun interpretation. |

| The line "Look a horse (named Divorce) gallops thru the desert light" should be "Look a horse, of course, gallops through the desert light". It's an old Mr. Ed reference "A horse is a horse of course of course". It fits in with all the old references | |

| @[ArcticSounds:1762] I agree with that. I think that the lines "Instead of seeing, a neighbor out God, I wish I would've found a way out" kinda goes hand in hand with this. As a band, they were just having fun, doing what they do. Touring with other bands who didn't seem to get caught up in the whole major label woes. They just got blind sided and he's almost saying "instead of helping other bands, we should've paid attention and not got caught up in what they were trying to use us for". | |

| Ween – Transdermal Celebration Lyrics | 11 years ago |

@[rufonz:886] drugs were pretty integral in the making of most Ween albums, so the "language" of drug users is in there. They also seem to have a huge following of people that includes a lot of drug users and people who are caught up with Gene Weens struggle with addiction and so they write the songs off as that. Problem is that the subjectivity of music means people are free to stop at this surface level and rob themselves of the greatness of the depth of ween. Personally I've always kinda seen this song as a sci-fi landscape where some form of pathogen is changing people for the better and people are spreading it. Out of fear of anything new, the armies are sent in to destroy the new and bring back the status quo. The narrator seems to be unbiased and almost naive - describing bombs as crustaceans. The last line about "But where is the mutation who once told me it was safe, I can't find him" seems to indicate a "victory" and the destruction of the unknown. It's kind of a sad story, to me, despite the triumphant feeling of the music. |

| Ween – Captain Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
To me it reeks of helplessness of addiction. Everybody boards the boat thinking it'll be fine and they can handle the sea, then when a storm comes and the waters get choppy and a rogue wave hits, you can only beg to be taken home as the sea has its way with you. The whole album seems to start with happiness and brotherly love and outrageousness, then the album touches the core with Captain before spiraling in on itself, leaving behind songs of vapidity and concluding with a hyper real and heartfelt "If You Could Save Yourself". |

| Santigold – Disparate Youth Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
Not certain why Dowa2bp got a downvote. lmgtfy http://www.theguardian.com/music/2009/feb/12/santogold-becomes-santigold Santogold really did become Santigold. The singer's name is Santi White. From the article: " Santogold is dead, long live Santigold! The Brooklyn-based electro-rap star has — yes, indeed — changed her name. "Change the graffiti on the bathroom wall, get your tattoo fixed, get your T-shirt airbrushed and change the name on your year-end list," reads the singer's press release. "Santogold is now Santigold. She's not telling you why, that's just how it is." However, the reason behind the name change isn't difficult to figure out. Santogold — the musical artist, she of Creator and L.E.S. Artistes — was sued last year by Santo Gold, a jeweller, filmmaker and infomercial-based salesman. And it seems she has given in. The other Santo Gold — the one who is keeping the "o" — is infamous for his low-budget 1985 film, Santo Gold's Blood Circus. The movie is a wrestling-themed science fiction flick, with aliens from the planet Zoran fighting the US and USSR. It was, perhaps unsurprisingly, never released. Santo Gold — also known as Santo Rigatuso, or even allegedly as Bob Harris — still made use of the movie, inserting clips into infomercials for his jewellery business. He started making a fuss last summer, releasing a statement attacking the "imposter" who had "stolen the name". "The name has been used by the plaintiff since 1983," the Baltimore-based alien wrestler aficionado insisted. The singer, meanwhile, was born Santi White in 1976. Her debut album, released last year, appear to have been the first time she has used the Santogold name. Santigold hasn't wasted time asserting her new identity. Her original MySpace page has been taken down, and a new one launched. At the time of going to press her website continues to use the old spelling, but her publicist has said that this will change. So too will future pressings of albums, singles and any merchandise bear that expensive little 'i'. The Baltimore-based Santo Gold has announced his own debut album, titled I Am the Real Santo Gold. There is more information at his website and his track, I Am the Real Santo Gold, can be found on YouTube. It is, as one commenter stated, "disarmingly atrocious". "So don't use my name to create your fame / believe me kid, this is not a game / Because I'm the real Santo Gold," he sings, "I don't like my name being stoled."" |

"So Much Beauty In Dirt" is another song like that, for me. Isaac Brock is great at finding those experiences and emotions shared by so many people and relating them and twisting them and braiding them into strands of our past that ties us all together making us all one rope rather than thousands of strands. It's what makes his music so strangely powerful, I think, that ability to help us relive all the those poignant moments in life even though they've passed on. |

| Toadies – Tyler Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Life long resident of Tyler here. The story was in the Tyler papers when it happened, but actually happened just outside of tyler in a lakeside community. The true and actual story that did happen is in the lyrics. A man was obsessed with an ex-girlfriend and decided to break into her house. The trip to mexico may or may not be embellished, honestly. But he did get drink in her kitchen - while he was raiding the fridge, she barricaded and locked the door because she was woken by the noise. When the police arrived, he was passed out and laying against her bedroom door. There was a bunch of interesting items in the trunk including rope and bags and stuff. Tyler has violent history. It seems every decade they do something crazy, from this story, to ten years later a man brought a semi automatic rifle to shoot his wife in divorce court. He opened fire on the court room. A few years after that another man obsessed with his ex actually cut off his girlfriends ear and was boiling it in a soup. Tyler, Tx. Come visit any time. |

| Ween – The Argus Lyrics | 14 years ago |

he was a hero up to that point, even. He had fought several enemies and freed man from several monsters, cleared roads of bandits, and so on... To me "Remember the Argus" is saying to remember all he did and not just how he died - this part is my own analogy and not a reflection of what I believe are Gene and Dean's beliefs, but it's similar to how Christianity worships a cross and Catholics in particular have all sorts of rituals surrounding their saviors mode of death rather than focusing on the teachings... most of the story passed on about the Argus is that he was killed guarding Io; remember the Argus - remember what he did for humanity. |

|
Facts are so fucking boring. If you have no imagination, go ahead and buy into the reality of it being about an album cover. I'll go on believing it was about a bad ass trip, myself, because fact is they could have had an experience completely unrelated to the album cover but some outside observer just says "You're about as clear as the guy in the Obscure By Clouds album cover" so with these feelings of complete connectedness and alienation take on a recognizable form and they decide to go with the theme by making a Floyd-ish sound to accompany the lyrics. I don't think it's coincidence that this song is immediately followed by "How High Can You Fly". |

Reminds me of good sex. "When the guava's drained, Eddie Dingle remains. But we must further ourselves on." He's basically saying "I know you need more of my hot lovin', but I need sustenance, therefore "'Mama' if you please, pass me the pork roll egg and cheese, if you please, On a kaiser bun." Mama being a term of endearment not his actual mother. |

| Ween – Back to Basom Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
I always saw this song as a tie to the inevitability of "finding enlightenment" when playing with psychedelics. This and "Exactly Where I'm At" both give me the feel of somebody going through some pretty heavy self-realizations due to acid, psilocybin or whatever psychedelic is used (matters not from where I'm coming - I see this, too, as not just in regards to which drug, but what method [spiritual, playful, what have you]). The thing I took from the sleep so tight line, though, was that we sleep so tight - lose awareness gained through the experience - when we're breathing - "living in this world". To me it's as though he's wanting to go back to that perfect experience where he saw that truth for what it was. Just my two cents. Ain't worth two pennies, I know, but I'll take what I can. |

| Ween – Mutilated Lips Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
It's definitely about Jesus! I used acid frequently, and even experimented with Yopo, 5-MeO-DMT, DMT, DXM, GHB, psilocybin, heroin, Nitrous, Ayahuasca, Salvia, Meth-amphetamines, Peyote, Methadone, Scotch Guard, MDMA, Ketamine, Oxycodone, Oxycontin, morning glory seeds, Hashish, Jenkem, 2C-B, Opium, marijuana, banana peels, datura, cocaine, ibogaine, Iboga, mescaline, hard liquor, silver spray paint, and occasionally antihistamines. One night while on a mix of acid and Robitussin, mutilated lips played and it clicked and I've since devoted my life to our lord and savior brother Jesus Christ son of our Father God! The line "you could get a drop of this, yeah you wish" is referring to salvation and the way people use drugs to try to fill the void created when God initially abandoned us! |

| Chad Vangaalen – City of Electric Light Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
had to log on just to applaud clemstonsheets. I agree with your definition. The question you ask in the end - "who would you rather be in love with? The moon, or the city?" very poignant. Lots of artists and writers mention love of cities and love of nature goes back to the roots of man. Both loves are very true and pure but drastically different. I remember the first time I went to NYC. Flying in at night reminded me of this song - the lights spilling out from the city made me think of Chad Vangaalen's lyrics - this song in particular. Cities have a soul and a life of their own... Personally, I'd rather love a city than the moon because the city you can join in with and be part of. All of that was said to say that I believe the greatest part of the relationship is when the god status fades into the familiar comfort of electric lights. It's a whole new period of rediscovery in the relationship at that point. The first initial letdown gives way to a new love when you realize that they didn't come down, but you rose to them. Now he is a god as well - "we connect the stars every single one" he's discovering new power and expresses a desire to share it with them. Even the music at this point seems innocent again and pure before it flares with the last verse. Plus the whole idea of saying that she was just a street light then saying she was burning like a whole city of electric lights and that they connect all the lights to hang like the sun - the sun is obviously more powerful than the moon and he mixes that imagery with the familiarity of a city... It seems like the distant and cold moon has grown to a close life giving warmth. Just my thoughts, but this makes me think of something growing and exploding into light and life like the rivers of golden cellophane that flow from NYC not something dying down and fading. |

| Gnarls Barkley – Going On Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
I gotta say - I feel really bad for anybody who sees this song as a message of despair, and I really hope you can get out of that mindset. Moving forward - this song is all about moving forward. It seems to me more about the idea that he's elevated to a higher state of mind and has decided that even if he would rather be alone than dwell in the base mindset that would have people see this as a suicide note. It's even in order of his self discovery: "I've seen it with my own eyes, how we're getting otherwise, without the luxury of leaving. (leaving) The touch and feeling of free, is untangible technically, is something you got to believe in. (believe in)" In the opening verses it's all about looking around you and becoming aware of the fact that things just don't seem quite right. The awakening of individuality. "Connect the cause and effect, one foot in front of the next, this is the start of a journey. (journey)" Realizing what it is that makes you unique and beginning to move in that direction is definitely a journey of self discovery. "And my mind is already gone, and though there are other unknowns, somehow this doesn't concern me. (concern me)" Just because you are aware of a simple fact doesn't mean you understand it all... at all... there are always plenty of unknowns but rather than roll over and give up on finding some sort of answer for yourself, you look past it. It doesn't concern him anymore. He's on his own path now. His mind is already gone all that trivial stuff people let pull them down in life are the unknowns that doesn't concern him anymore. In the chorus he's just stating that he's going on down his path and he doesn't care if people understand him or not. He has faith that perhaps someday the people he loves will come to their own awakening, and he'll be waiting for them to catch up (and i'm sure they'll have a place for you too) "Anyone that needs what they want, and doesn't want what they need, I want nothing to do with. (to do with)" In this verse he's more pointedly singling out people that are unaware. People who need what they want and don't want what they need don't have their priorities straight, and people who can't straighten their priorities usually don't have a very straight mind and lack the awareness he's gone on to find. "And to do what I want and to do what I please, is first on my to-do list. (to-do list)" It's definitely "ON" his to do list because that's what he wants to do first. He's stating that the number one thing you should do in your journey is to do as you please. There's a quote by Jimi Hendrix that follows the same vein - "When time comes for me to die, I'm the one that's gotta die; so let me live my life the way I wanna live it". This is the awareness he's talking about. "But every once in a while, I think about her smile, one of the few things I do miss. (do miss)" To me this is what blows the suicide idea out of the water. He is thinking - something dead people can no longer do. I believe this points out that there will be some aspects of the unexamined life you miss, but he seems to be saying that he misses it without regretting that he left. The rest of the song he's repeating how he had to go. To me it's as though he's sending a message back to his old life. Songs tend to be mirrors, not books. They reflect whatever we're going through at the time and we tend to find in them what we find in ourselves. To me this song is written this way because that person he left behind will understand the message of it when they move past the small stuff in life that trips us up all the time. When they finally wake up and realize that there's so much more to life than drama and petty bull sh!t, when they realize that the act of creation is more important than feeding your own negativity, then they will understand this song, and will hopefully seek him out because as he repeatedly said in the song in various ways "I'm waiting for you" and the final lines explain why he left without her/them. "Freedom is () me, Still I try I never know what to do. Don't follow me.." Just because somebody does come to that realization that there's more to life doesn't mean s/he has all the answers. The "Don't follow me..." is more underlining the importance of discovering yourself rather than trying to keep up with somebody else's changes. If you follow them, you just go where they're going, and that may not be what's right for you. It's better if you both go your own ways and see if your paths cross again than it is to conform to a partner. I seriously seriously doubt Cee-lo ever reads these, but I hope she caught up finally... |
