The Rolling Stones – Moon Is Up Lyrics 11 years ago
This is a good song, but it definitely gets the astronomy wrong. The moon CAN be up at the same time as the sun, but in general the closer moonrise is to sunrise the less visible it will be (new moons in particular are completely invisible from Earth because they rise at roughly the same time as the sun). So yes, you can "have it both ways around".

Based on that, I am ironically reminded of his quip during a performance of "Feel Good Hit of the Summer": "I cannot be killed by ANYTHING." (cue audience freaking out)

Three Days Grace – Someone Who Cares Lyrics 12 years ago
I totally agree. In its most literal interpretation it's about homeless people. I'm not saying the song can't mean different things to different people but to me that interpretation easily trumps any other emotional meaning people extract from it. Like, if I'm unpopular in school and no one seems to care for me there, well, that's not nearly as bad as having to live on whichever street looks good tonight, or under whichever bridge the local serial killer isn't using at the moment... I mean, I have a good home and I'm getting an education (I'm 20 so this is a hypothetical example). What excuse do I have to complain about not fitting in?

Three Days Grace – Someone Who Cares Lyrics 12 years ago
Looks like somebody beat me to it, but as I was humming the lyrics to myself today I came to the conclusion that it's about homeless people. It just didn't make sense for wealthy suburban teens to find any substance in the lyrics relevant to them, at least not to me, and especially the line "But there's people like me / That nobody sees / So nobody cares" and that whole second stanza evoke a sad image of the out-of-sight, out-of-mind treatment homeless people usually get. You can't see them, so they're not there.

The song seems to be about _becoming_ a homeless person and what it takes to get there. It seems to have a sense of self-responsibility, as in, "I'm a homeless person now, but in my case specifically the choices I made for myself got me here and no one is to blame for my predicament but me. Now I see for myself what it's really like to be an outcast and stigmatized. Whatever 'problems' I had before weren't as bad as I thought they were, especially not compared to this. I can't believe I did drugs/drank myself out of house and home/gambled so much to get the pain away. All that self-medication landed me here, and now I see why society treats people like me the way they do."

Billy Joel – Vienna Lyrics 13 years ago
One of my favorites by Billy Joel. To me, it's another way of saying "Rome wasn't built in a day", done as eloquently as only Billy Joel could. If you want to get somewhere in your life, if there's a place you really want to go, it will wait for you. It's not the end of the world if you aren't there yet. You just need to take a deep breath and relax. It's not going anywhere. It will wait for you.

As a guitar-player, I enjoy the line "It's all right, you can afford to lose a day or two." When working towards a goal, sometimes you need to take a break. That way you can come back stronger than before.

Don't go so fast you forget to enjoy the trip along the way. It's not about the destination, but the journey. If you take it too fast, you won't enjoy it as much when you get there.

Iron Maiden – Another Life Lyrics 13 years ago
I always thought it was about a guy just living from day to day, doing nothing because he has nothing to do. All he does is sleep and dream. He has an actual dream to do something, and he gets this urge to get up and do it, but he can't figure out what it is he wants to do so the urge simply frustrates him or drives him crazy. In the end, he's sick of living this way but can't see any way out of it, so he simply goes back to sleep, to dream of greater things again.

Three Days Grace – Drown Lyrics 13 years ago
I think it's about someone who had it all and then lost everything, like a celebrity or something who let it all go to his head and then he woke up one day, in a dump of a room, found all his friends had deserted him and he lost all his money. Maybe he was a drug addict and let it get out of control and that's why he lost everything, including his friends who wouldn't put up with his habit. And maybe that's what he's referring to in the chorus of the song as "someone to control me", personifying it.

"Just my thoughts, but if you disagree with me... you're wrong." An evident contradiction in terms, no?

Interestingly, though, Judas realized what he'd done and hanged himself. Do you suppose the song has anything to do with that?

Iron Maiden – Moonchild Lyrics 14 years ago
This is interesting... Iron Maiden aren't afraid to talk about the devil like this... just look at "The Number of the Beast"... I like how they can do this without taking the unholy black metal route (i.e. incorporating blasphemy against God). That's part of why I like Maiden. Up the Irons!!!!!!

Billy Joel – This Is The Time Lyrics 14 years ago
When I was little, my sister and I fought over two songs: "We Didn't Start the Fire" and this one. We'd always say, "Okay mom, now let's listen to THIS one!" We were rivals back then; my sister always wanted "We Didn't Start the Fire" and I always wanted this one, and we didn't particularly care for each other's taste in music. As time went on, we remembered "Fire" but I forgot what this song was called or who performed it - although I still loved it all the time and was paying attention if I ever heard it again. Imagine my surprise when so many years later, a couple weeks ago, I pop in "The Bridge" on my iPod and this song comes up - and as it turns out we were squabbling over two Billy Joel songs! I thought only one of them was Billy Joel.

Anyway, great song about enjoying the moment.

I love this song. I know it sounds dirty but I can imagine a music video where all the 'offensive' stuff is not what it seems.

Three Days Grace – Born Like This Lyrics 14 years ago
I think it's about just being yourself, accepting that you are who you are, and that whatever media standard is glorified - the anorexic, the musclebound, the sexy - you are not nor ever were meant to be that way.

"Someone's god is laughing" probably refers to how the people that fans look up to are laughing at how they're being perceived. That people are trying to be just like them but can't ever be.

It's a song about being unique. Just learn to live with yourself and anyone who doesn't like it can kiss your ass. That's how I live my life.

I think it's just a song about kickin' ass and takin' names.

Three Days Grace – The Good Life Lyrics 14 years ago
I'll even take it a bit further. The confusion you refer to seems to be amplified by the fact that Adam sings "always" while the backing vocals sing "never" (at least that's how I remember it). That's basically saying that he's conflicted with himself - on the surface he says it's okay but inside he's screaming that it's not. It's his conscience talking to him, and he's battling himself over it. He doesn't want to acknowledge that he has the wrong idea of what the 'good life' really is.

I agree with you on the meaning. Great job.

KMFDM – Juke Joint Jezebel Lyrics 14 years ago
I think it's about someone who severely hurt someone else, possibly including raping her and then coming to regret what he did to her.

"You are the one that blame passed by" seems to mean that her involvement was not in implementing the crime, but that she was the innocent victim. "If I could leave my burning skin / That has been used up in your sin" seems to mean that he now hates himself, wishes he could die, and "your sin" means what he did to her.
