| Amorphis – Better Unborn Lyrics

Very gloomy song (lyricwise), it's pretty self explanatory: the world would be better if i was never born. Love the way the lyrics are structured, with numbers and units of volume and length. |

| Amorphis – My Kantele Lyrics

Takes the myth of Väinämöinen making the first Kantele from a pike's jaw and refuses it as a lie, saying that the Kantele was made of pain and strife. Very finnish kind of thinking :) |

| Amorphis – Perkele (The God of Fire) Lyrics

Perkele was the god of thunder in finnish mythology (like Thor in Scandinavia). It is now a swear word because it has come to mean "devil", courtesy of the Catholic church valiant efforts of turning every pagan symbol of pre-christian Finland into something evil. |

| Amorphis – Against Widows Lyrics

This song is inspired on a poem of popular wisdom. According to it, it's bad to wed a widow and all the reasons are pointed out. The explanation for this might be the church trying to discourage divorce, by making a widow seem as something damaged. |

| Amorphis – Sampo Lyrics

I agree with your interpretation, except the part about the poison and deceit. According to the Kalevala, before forging the Sampo, Ilmarinen had several failed attempts. These attempts had different shapes, and they were all beautiful, but there was something evil inside them (hence the "From roaring flames the shapes emerge", "Their poisoned core hides in beauty"). Ilmarinen threw these failed attempts and started over until the Sampo was made ("Into the blaze I shove them back", "I start my work again" and finally "A wonder is born")
So there is no fear of the Sampo being used for evil. |
