The Bravery – Above and Below Lyrics 14 years ago
Above and Below is about a depressed person thinking of committing suicide. This person wonders whether anyone will miss him when he “disappears”. The singer wants to believe that there is a God or something that cares about him (“their must be something more above us and below”); but he is stuck with a faith in his subconscious that there is. The singer then laments that if this is all life has to offer and all he gets that life is not worth living. In the song’s second verse he talks about how the Earth is so cold and insensitive to what he is going through. “This vicious child. Nature never wanted us. Cancer burning black into its heart” is all about society recently and how they have become cold and cruel to someone who has “cancer” of the soul or of mind (depression).

Spoon – Don't You Evah Lyrics 14 years ago
Don’t You Evah is about saying no to pre-marital sex. It talks about a couple who has it all planned out and won’t get pregnant and “never fit to worry, never even feel a fright” about it. It says that two single people sleep alone for a reason and that this rather traditional couple has been together for 5 years and is thinking about doing it. In the chorus is says to the guy: but don’t you love her, deep down but they better not evah have sex cause it will only lead to trouble and keep each of them hanging on too each other even if their relationship then goes south. The song goes on to say that the idea doesn’t feel right and that using famous words or quotes to rationalize this action isn’t right. Also, “Petals getting picked”, is a reference to someone losing their virginity.

Radiohead – Jigsaw Falling into Place Lyrics 14 years ago
SONG MEANING: Jigsaw falling into Place is about a man hiring a prostitute. The song talks about a hook-up that is rather impersonal and they guy is drunk but wants to remember the experience of being with this girl.

“The walls abandon shape” and “They’ve got a Cheshire Cat grin” (use a different word for “cat” that starts with a “p” and the song makes more sense) refer to sex and what I explained earlier in ( ). This verse also talks about them being “on a mission” to have sex and to do it before it gets to late (night owl), and “animal noises possibly referring to kinky sex? Along with filming this whole experience before she’s “comatose” (a.k.a.: post orgasm).

But before she leaves he really likes her even thought she is not the best he ever had as shone in that “he never really got there” and just pretended he did. He is saying he loves her but “words are blunt instruments” and she doesn’t really care or believe she does and thus their “relationship” is blown away like with a “sawed-off shotgun”.

But the guy still hasn’t got all he paid for so he encourages her to “come on and let (her orgasm) out”. Then he thinks about the fact that she will leave, but before she does get “lost between the notes” he wants to enjoy his time with her.

And “Jigsaw falling into place” refers to the way two human bodies fit together and “there is nothing (more needed) to explain (that)”. But as the girl leaves they both look at each other, wondering if they do love each other, or are these feeling fake? And they ponder it a while, “not just once, not just twice”. The guy wishes away the “nightmare” of trying to deal with being in love with a prostitute, (after) “(replace you’ve with they’ve) you’ve got it on, (and) can you feel it (this new love of his) on your back”, while finally referring that this is not the last time “jigsaws falling into place” and he will make love to her as they struggle with the feelings they both have.

Hot Hot Heat – Harmonicas And Tambourines Lyrics 14 years ago
In short: this song is about sex. The first verse refers to the boys who crave regrets and gives an outlaw image (a.k.a. “bad”) image to a girl with the bandana around her neck. When the crowd sings they go from the number 9 to the number 5 (no this is not totally a reference to work and daily shifts), skipping 6 after 9. This song also talks about one night between a girl and a guy. This whole song’s meaning is summed up by the next line that asks: Why not “do it” (say this to yourself and now see how it sounds) forever?

The chorus: Harmonicas and tambourines seems totally pointless other than that those instruments are used in this song; until you realize how these instruments are played (you blow a harmonica and band a tambourine….hhhmmm now). Also it talks about a fancy girl and how with her Brooklyn dreams: the lead singer might just be too plain for her; and that she thinks about him all the time, but he dies when she moves on into her career.

In the second verse the singer wonders whether the girls will say yes or no (what to the mind can only wonder several possible situations). Along with another sex reference of “ bit too loud and the lights a bit too low”; finalized with the same question of “why not do it forever.

The Scanners – Joy Lyrics 14 years ago
This song, with it’s reference to a being in "(making)love (to) my digital toy” (referring to something electric……in a song being sung by a female) is about a woman’s personal device that uses electricity. Even further confirmed by the lyrics: “a bum in the opening frame (think about it) Yeah my love (my “love”….think about it) leaves a permanent stain and it refers to something that is “always there for me(a girl) to enjoy”.
