I was only introduced to this song only a few days ago, and it has had such a profound effect on me. I think the music, lyrics and video fit it perfectly. Personally, I think its about growing up and sadly growing apart from people you once thought you could not survive without. You cant escape from growing up. Some people may see it as a war, as a constant battle that you cant escape, that controls and oppresses you. Some people grow up and get on with it while others are simply stuck in the past. I'll explain why I get this impression. "But in my dreams we're still screamin' and runnin' through the yard"- he still imagines them all together, without any care in the world. However, this is only a dream. "And all of the walls that they built in the seventies finally fall And all of the houses they build in the seventies finally fall"- When they were younger, they had structure in their lives, school, curfews, rules etc but now there an adult it is not inflicted on them as it once was before. This structure just falls and crumbles away "So can you understand? Why I want a daughter while I'm still young I wanna hold her hand And show her some beauty Before this damage is done"- He wants to remember what innocence is before its too late. He needs to feel a true connection to youth before hes completely dead inside. "Sometimes I can't believe it I'm movin' past the feeling" Although he wants to remember his youth,and everything it meant to him, its moving further and further away so it is becoming even harder to remember. Even becoming more meaningless. "In my dreams we're still screamin'"- When hes asleep, and not in reality, he remembers his youth and him and his friends "screamin' and runnin' through the yard". Just an opinion, I think there is a way deeper meaning too, but at the moment, thats the strongest feeling I get from this!! |
