Wow. really like the music to this song, too bad the lyrics indicate perversions going on. I wonder if the chicken fancier inspired the Chicken Fucker character on Southpark. That character even had a red beard. The one thing I dislike about Jethro Tull's lyrics are all the hidden stuff pertaining to pedos and homosexuals (Crosseyed Mary, Aqalung, and this one. Ian's voice and instrumentals are so good, that it kind of mars it for me. Then again he is kind of brilliant at hiding the true meanings of the dirtier songs. I doubt it was the schoolgirls who got popped in their holes. |

It about time traveling space aliens. The protagonist sees with disgust the history of humankind and continues to travel in the future to where all people are dead. That is the only way he can escape it. |

After reading the lyrics and listening to this song a few times, I think it is about Project Blue Beam. The conspiracy theorists, not me personally, believe that the government will place holograms into the sky using satellites that will fake the Rapture, "Government, heaven sent in our heads" really stands out. "Brother lights on our old lives" could be Big Brother. "We are going to drift away" means that they are flying off of Earth getting raptured up.

"Weight of the World" is about general loneliness. The second verse could specify long distance relationships. The world is a cold place to the naive. |

This song is awesome. He sounds just like Ian Curtis. I think this song is what Joy Division would sound like if Ian lasted until 1983 or so. |

"Held for one moment I remember a song"
I heard on a interview once that the song is "Love will tear us apart" by Joy Division. |

This song is about a chick dancing disco style in New Wave club. The onlookers are looking at her disapprovingly since she is out of style. New Wave took over from Disco. Basically dance music for punk rockers. |

Maynard is criticizing Christianity in this song. The protagonist is a born again Christian who is rubbing in his new religion in non-believer's faces. The non-believers get angry and want to "tug him off his cloud." This is just another anti christian song by Maynard about his at the time paralyzed mother who refused to stop praising the one that left her "broken down and paralyzed." (Judith). |

| David Bowie – Art Decade Lyrics

This instrumental is so futuristic sounding even though it came out in 1977. You can really understand the influence that David Bowie had on the New Wave movement of the late 70s and early 80s with the synth created on "Art Decade". So many groups and artists like Ian Curtis, Phil Oakey from Human League, the founder of Depeche Mode, and Alphaville were influenced by Bowie. |

I also think this is about WWII. I can picture the Soviet soliders marching through Berlin at the end of the war in Europe mowing down the last dregs of the German Army on their way to find and kill Hitler. Karma at its best. |

Its about revolution of the Arabic countries overthrowing their dictatorships (sands with crescent moon), but it all being fruitless as another restricting form of government (theocracy) takes over. People have nothing to lose so they do not mind dying for the initial good cause, "The promise of beyond." The revolution is a waste of time and life as indicated in the final stanza, "With nothing gained." |

This song reminds me of the decline of civilization. I see representations of nations such as Uncle Sam and John Bull on life support and dying. It is setting the stage for the collapse of the world. The lead singer of Killing Joke even left the UK in the late 80s because he thought a huge catacylism was going to wipe it out. |

I believe this song is about America. The Americans fought in both World Wars and kept bases over in Europe decades after the last world war ended. The first two lines describe the American flag. The Cowboys did, with the help of the Soviets, save western Europe from the Nazis. |
