I think I have a few corrections... Hey it's your blood that makes my veins run. Young one, look at me. Cause you went off to seize what no one else could see Oh baby hate it, hate it, day to day to day oh no? Not sure if that last part is right. |

| I think she says "I'm always watching you through a key hole" and also creaking down the hall, not wall. And I don't know for sure what she's saying in "So I can limp beside you - and follow in your house? too" And I think it's it's can undress, not can't. I am not sure on these though. Thanks for the lyrics! | |
| Seabear – I Sing I Swim Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Personally I think this song is about someone watching another lost in a terrible depression. The tree is symbolic of the person the singer is talking about. He's asking them to shake off the troubles and wash them away. The teeth marks represent the fight that the person once had and the singer is relating to how he misses the fight (liveliness). The singer misses the person that they used to be even though the shell of them is still around. And he's doing whatever he can to try and bring some kind of life back "I'm a black cloud/Sending lightning to the ground". He asks, "show your teeth," as in bring some of that life back again. Fight again and the singer can stop worrying enough to get some sleep. "Human skin can be hard to live in," is representative of someone depressed over whom they've become and what a change but don't know what to do so they've basically given up. Anyway, you know where I'm going with this. |

| This song is so haunting and sad that it gives me chills each time I hear it. It is quite literally a story about children that find their parents' guns and "play" with them, accidentally killing themselves or another. The line about showing the whites of the eyes is so incredibly tragic and sad. | |

| Wait, hold on. I don't completely agree with Fuzzman. In the first four lines, she is talking about how she and her lover are so engrossed with each other that they've locked themselves out of everyday goings-on. They've shut themselves in as lovers (honeymoon phase). In the next four lines, she is still very much in love while her lover is getting bored with the situation. She tries to ignore the ambivalence by sculpting stories in her head to make the situation all right and in the mean time, family/friends are cheering on their love story, saying they're perfect for one another. In the third set, she realizes it isn't working for her lover so she says she would do anything for them and pleads that they do the same in return. In the end, it doesn't work out. They part ways and their family/friends cheer them on as support. I probably don't need to explain that the stage is a metaphor for the stages of their relationship, but I'll add that part too. | |

Annie is a Unitarian Universalist and most definitely pokes sly fingers at religion in many of her songs. Just because a song has a reference to Jesus in it and sounds beautiful, doesn't mean it's about Jesus or love of God or whomever you believe in. Good grief. "I was thinking about how in religious imagery there's a lot of amorous love and divine love, and how that gets confusing for people," Clark says. Found at http://www.azcentral.com/ent/music/articles/0801stvincent0801-ON.html?&wired And: Well “Jesus Saves, I Spend” is kind of a love song. To me, was kind of a love song, about being in love, and also the simultaneous feeling of disconnect from reality, I suppose. Found at http://www.qromag.com/interviews/interviews/annie_clark_of_st._vincent,_polyphonic_spree_:_q&a/ And this is where I say I agree 100% with what Fuzzman said up there in '07. Proof is in the puddin'. |
