My interpretation is that he's trying to get over a relationship that didn't work out. The pain is washing over him and he's "starting to feel this water wrapped around [his] chest". It sounds as if he doesn't want to let go simply because of the security he felt with her. "So just rip me away from that normal sense of security And you'll be born again on a river bank Now before you drown yourself Were these scares never meant to heal? Was this heart never meant to feel? Well I hope this time Breaks you down" I suppose it's equally possible that the lyrics are meant literally and he believes this person needs to let go. Whatever the meaning, this song is in my top ten favorites of all time. |
