| Led Zeppelin – Misty Mountain Hop Lyrics | 14 years ago |

My interpretation of this song is that it's about smoking weed with some people you don't really know or friends of your friends, and then just being so stoned as a cop is telling you and your buddies to line up. After that I think there's a message that Plant is trying to get across, mostly with the lyric "really don't care which way the pressure lies," which is basically him saying "fuck everyone who doesn't like me, I'm just going to do what I want to do." The reference to the misty mountains is definitely Tolkien, but it's just an allusion...Plant is assuming you've read or are familiar with LotR so you know that misty mountain is a symbol for getting away to that place of your own, or it could be about smoking more weed. Just my opinion. |

I remember reading somewhere that Neil claimed this was about a quarrel between two lovers. Not sure if it's true, but it seems to fit well, like pengy said, Neil is a truly ethereal man. However, seeing how other songs on the album are very critical of current conflicts (i.e The Way The Wind Blows), I can see how this could be more of a broader statement about the east and west. |

I think this song isn't just about two cities, but about how things that we are so accustomed to in our culture (meaning we take them for granted) are valued by other cultures for their beauty. I'm thinking this because of the stanzas: They seem oblivious To a soft spring rain, Like an English rain So light, yet endless From a leaden sky. ^^^ It almost sounds like the narrator is confused as to how they CAN'T appreciate the beauty of the rain. Are they oblivious To this quality? A quality Of light unique to Every city's streets. ^^^ Then, when the narrator is talking about London, he's praising the old-fashioned and "human" feeling to it, but asking why the people who have lived there for so long lost their appreciation for the beauty of the architecture. |

This song was actually written by Geddy, because Neil wasn't in Rush when they wrote it. The extras section of the DVD has a clip showing Geddy, Alex, and John Rutsey playing this songon some small stage, probably a high school. I guess for some reason they shelved it from their debut album and put it on Fly by Night. Oh, and on the album credits this song only has credit for (Lee), the rest of the songs have Neil credited for lyrics. |

| Rush – Middletown Dreams Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I love the cyclical nature of the "middle-aged madonna" verse. But she'll go walking out that door On some bright afternoon To go and paint big cities From a lonely attic room To me, that means we like to tell ourselves we're going to do something big, but for whatever reasons, however you interpret it, something is stopping us from achieving that dream, yet we still hold on to those dreams. In a literal sense, it could mean her dream was to move to a big city, to "get out", but again, all she ends up doing is imagining her dream on a pastel. |
