Sully Erna – The Departed Lyrics 14 years ago
Thanks guys. :) I knew that Sully was the front man of Godsmack. Jeremy, how sad that your grandfather passed away. :( It's so hard to lose someone you love. I also appreciate the information that you've given me to get a better outlook on just who he is. I love his music, and I'm wanting to better understand what drives him to compose the way he does.

Vertical Horizon – Everything You Want Lyrics 14 years ago
To be honest, I can see how the lyrics can be interpreted as unrequited love and God observing someone who didn't believe. It's hard to say which is right, because I've looked at the song from both angles. I feel that I've identified with it most as the unrequited love interpretation though, because I feel that I now mean nothing to the guy that I've loved for years.

All personal feelings aside, this is an amazing song, and I'm glad I found it. :)

Skillet – Whispers in the Dark Lyrics 15 years ago
This makes me think of my relationship with my boyfriend. Since I'm the older one I've always been more protective of him and willing to be the one he talks to when he is having issues with something. :)

Breaking Benjamin – Away Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this can also be looked at from the standpoint of an addiction. The addiction itself can come from a substance, or in some cases a person. The chorus itself illustrates how this addiction is hitting the writer or the speaker from all sides: "I see you, 'cause you won't get out of my way, I hear you 'cause you won't quit screaming my name, I feel you 'cause you won't stop touching my skin". That's how I relate to it. I've had relationships with a couple of people that deep down I knew weren't good for me to be around and yet I was unable to break away from them because there was something about being in their presence that I found addicting. I didn't want to stop being around them even though I knew it was harmful to me.

Disturbed – The Night Lyrics 15 years ago
I agree. I also get the feeling the song's meaning revolves around finding yourself amid all of the pressures of this world. I think there may even be bits of not conforming to what society wants and facing your own inner demons in the process. It certainly makes you wonder. :)

Chester Bennington – System Lyrics 15 years ago
Oh wow... I had no idea that this was Chester Bennington. I've even seen the Queen of the Damned too. I have to agree with the others who believe that this is Lestat's thoughts on Akasha. After all, Akasha and Enkil were the two original vampires.

Chester Bennington – State of the Art w/DJ Lethal Lyrics 15 years ago
Either that or this person is just now finding out what kind of person they truly are. It sounds like they've been living under the impression that they are one thing, instead of actually seeing the exterior that they show to the world. As soon as they see this, the reality of the things that they've done hits them and they want to run and hide. You can't hide from yourself.

Linkin Park – She Couldn't Lyrics 15 years ago
I think these lyrics have to do with someone suffering the loss of someone they loved; perhaps this person died. I don't think it was a break up because the girl is still watching over the person she left behind. The instruments bring to mind a guy alone in his house, stuck in his head because he lost this girl (No matter what you think you did wrong, she knew she had to go along) and she's standing at his shoulder in the form of a ghost. Does this make any sense to you?

Breaking Benjamin – Dance With The Devil Lyrics 15 years ago
I wonder if it has anything to do with quite literally courting sin. When I listen to this song, I've had this image of looking through another person's eyes who's literally dancing with someone they know is dangerous and could corrupt them and entice them to do things they wouldn't normally do otherwise. In my experience, that's what I see because I've been there. Only my "devil" was supposedly a close friend.
Or...
It could have something to do with losing faith in a religion that someone held tightly to and choosing to stray down a path they know is possibly morally dangerous for them.

I definitely agree. ^.^ I love the feel of the music, it really sets the stage for the rave/club scene.

Avenged Sevenfold – Scream Lyrics 15 years ago
I would have to disagree. Try a different tack: a creature with predatory instincts like a werewolf or something. I had a friend bring that up when I first though that it had to do with rough sex. Just a though to consider.

Breaking Benjamin – You Lyrics 15 years ago
This song seriously makes me want to cry. I'm sure it's about a drug addiction and the speaker pleading with someonne that he loves to not follow in his footsteps. It makes me think of my biological father in that sense. He was a heavy crank user for some time, I don't know if he's still using. This song is so personal to me because it makes me think of him and how I wish that things could have been different for us.

Breaking Benjamin – Blow Me Away Lyrics 15 years ago
Very well put. ^.^ Whenever I hear this song, I definitely picture a commander on the battlefield issuing orders to his troops and encouraging them to pull together to do what they need to do. I did not know where this song came from, thanks for that little tidbit. :)

Breaking Benjamin – Firefly Lyrics 15 years ago
To be honest, this song makes me think of a friend who was like the ringleader of our little group back in middle and high school. He did something that fucked with my relationship with him, but I've forgiven him. I still hate what he did. He and I seemed to be a lot alike, and if I look in a mirror, I can sometimes see those similarities. The traits that I see in myself that are like him I hate because of what he did. I love the lines,
"Fuck you firefly, have you lost your light?
Now I hate your ways,
cause they're just like mine
So you've lost, my friend, such a sorry end" They felt very fitting for the ending of our friendship. I also notice that in the chorus, I think it's supposed to be "Now I know your ways" instead of "Now I learned your ways". Just a suggestion for lyrical correction. ^.^

Breaking Benjamin – Follow Lyrics 15 years ago
In the second verse the person speaking seems to be almost daring the one they seek independence from to tell them what their future will be.
"Just cut these strings that hold me safe" seems to be saying that the speaker wants the person holding onto them to let them go out into the world, away from the safety of home.

"You know my head
You know my gaze
You'd know my heart if you knew your place" seems to be saying that the person holding onto the speaker has a position of authority over the speaker would they understand the speaker's point of view better if they looked at it from a different perspective.

All in all, I'm looking at this from a kid trying to leave home. It's like their parents don't look at them like the adult they are and are still trying to dictate their life for them. The kid wants to seek independence but their parents are holding them back. The kid in return fights for their independence even harder because of this. There's my two cents worth. ^.^

Breaking Benjamin – Follow Lyrics 15 years ago
These lyrics seem to speak of finding independence from the one that they once followed- same person now follows them. It family relationships in the sense that some parents don't look at the their child (who is now an adult) from any perspective but their own. That can be seen in the first verse.

"I'm losing sight, don't count on me.
I chase the sun, it chases me.

You know my name.
You know my face.
You'd know my heart.
If you knew my place.
I'll walk straight down.
As far as I can go."

The last two lines indicate a willingness to find their independence on their own when they're being held back. The chorus shows how the person is either following the person they're trying to gain independence from or being held back by them. The irony of the relationship is how even when the person speaking is trying to gain independence they're being held back.

Sully Erna – The Departed Lyrics 15 years ago
I'm surprised no one's commented on this song! My younger sister played this song for me last week and I absolutely love it!!!! It's her fault!!! ^.^ Some of the lines have somewhat religious undertones to it. I don't know much about the artist's background, could someone fill me in?
