Bad Religion – Only Rain Lyrics 15 years ago
I may be wrong on this, but what I get from the lyrics is, the tendency of religious extremism throughout the years to claim calamity and disaster as fury from an angry god. e.g. "The fundamentalist Christian god's destruction of the decadence and depravity of New Orleans" as some would say. Or as Pat Robertson would have it, Haiti's devastation due to some voodoo pact with the devil in exchange for independence from the French.

Either way, it seems decidedly evil to me to parade the shattered lives of countless people as a clarion call for whatever it is that you're pushing.

Bad Religion – Ad Hominem Lyrics 15 years ago
Ad Hominem, Literally translated as "To the person" is an expression for an argument addressing, not the facts at hand but rather the character of the opposing party.

It is a method often employed by the fervently religious against secular progression in virtually any way, as religion generally has the monopoly on a "source of morality" i.e. a deity whom hands down clean cut rules and regulations. While, since the primary purpose is to appeal to basic human emotions, an Ad Hominem argument can appeal greatly to sway minds, upon further inspection it often neglects to give any real answer to the question at hand.

Bad Religion – Meeting of the Minds Lyrics 15 years ago
"In old Tennessee, the last century.
All...SCOPES...were fixed on legal tricks and whether or not we
should teach kids natural philosophy, despite uncomfortable verity."

Nice little pun there. (A man named John Scopes was the defendant of the legal case which they're referencing; informally known as "Scopes Monkey Trial")

But yeah, essentially stating that what is conventionally considered as immutable history is merely the story everyone at the time chose to agree, on often sacrificing truth for compromise.
