| Kasabian – Man of Simple Pleasures Lyrics | 13 years ago |

This is gonna sound harsh, and I doubt this is what Serge had in mind when writing this, but the lyrics really sound like someone finally realising that his views of the world don't lead anywhere. I'm reading a book on how modern man is at a point of tension: on the one hand, he doesn't believe in God and believes in blind chance etc, but on the other hand he cannot deal with the logical consequence of that worldview. He believes in feelings and meaning and things like love and beauty, when he actually has no basis for such feelings. By amazing coincidence I found that same message in this song. The chorus is powerful support: Here I go once again trying hard to pretend There's a future in your man made rules I'll be governed by the road, get to shed this heavy load I see no future, so leave me alone in the past By the modern man's worldview, rules are indeed man made. But if everything is a result of blind chance, then the rules don't really make a difference - hence there's no future in them, as the man in the song realises. He sees no future - quite rightly, since his worldview doesn't support a glorious future. That's why he wishes to be left alone in the past, in a tone that to me at least sounds quite sombre and dark (as it well should, following my interpretation). Also this blends in nicely: I am told, the world is nearly ending But when I look outside the birds are always singing There's all this talk of the world ending and everything finishing in chaos with no ultimate meaning. However, the man in the song notices that there is beauty and meaning in nature (birds singing). This is interesting because it contradicts with his worldview of meaninglessness brought about by chance and randomness. Go on, let the righteous guide you home to where you belong I'll stay, listen to my favorite tunes, that's where I belong You won't take me for a ride, you won't take me for a ride The song closes with an arrogant attitude of not wanting to change and wishing to stick to the paradox that he is in. Nothing has meaning, but still the nature around him proves otherwise. Nevertheless, the person here chooses to ignore any possibility to mend the situation he is in. Awesome song. I hope it makes listeners think about the situation they are in, too. |

I'm constantly stalking for similarities between Noel's stuff and Liam's stuff. There are a lot of lyrics from both referring to the sea. I wonder if it's a common thing or if one got influenced by the other. The sea is very poetic in many ways I guess Like here Noel wants to "run away to sea" where "forever we'd be free" whereas Liam wants to go "out to sea" cause "it's the only place I honestly can get myself some peace of mind" and, of course, "all I wanna do is live by the sea" cos "it's good to be free." :) Then again, "if you're lost at sea well I hope that you drown." And they did play live by the sea, yes...? |

| What's up with the wave/beach effect here, on Liam's Morning Son and Champagne Supernova?? :D They do blend in nicely | |
| U2 – I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I first really truly listened to the lyrics of this song once when I was studying for an exam. I was cramming really hard, and I took a pause to play this album (I just felt like it). When I realised what Bono was singing in the chorus of this song, it blew me away: "It's not a hill, it's a mountain as you start out the climb" - it pictured so accurately what I was feeling about school and exams that it was almost creepy. Although the rest of the song is really about having fun and all that, for me those first lines of the chorus will always be about school and all the challenges in the world I have to face. And it doesn't even matter cos the words are so pretty! | |
| Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds – Stop The Clocks Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Really interesting that Noel should record this right here right now. High Flying Birds obviously marks the beginning of his solo career, but to end the album with such a dramatic song is intriguing! "Stop the clocks and turn the world around" -> End of Oasis, end of life as he knew it. Now it's time for a breather. "Lock the box and leave it all behind/On the backseat of my mind/And when the night is over/Where will I rise?" -> Leave Oasis behind, lock it up and forget it (hopefully not forever, I'm looking forward to a comeback), but now that he's without a band, what will happen?? "What if I'm already dead/How would I know?" -> Bet it feels kinda empty to go solo after being in a band for such a long time. And since Oasis has come to an end, how does Noel know he ain't 'dead and forgotten' now that there's no band anymore? "Lost inside my head, behind the wall/Do they hear me when I call?/And when the night is over/Where will I fall?" -> He's living in his own world with his songs, and is wondering how the public will respond to his stuff, and where he's gonna end up with his career without Liam. "And now the night is over/There'll be no sound" -> Coolest part. Now the 'night' (whether that be his time with Oasis, or, more like what I think, the time in between the break-up and the release of his album) is over, it's all calm, it's alright. It's a little ironic that Noel wrote this song ages ago for Oasis, but chose to record it only now. I mean, to me the song so obviously about the end of something massive. It's totally the Outside the Wall of his album, the grande finale of the huge post-Oasis syndrome. And of course there's something bittersweet about ending with a song that was supposed to have been recorded with the group, but becomes a intimate pondering on what it's like to be outside that same group. Nice song though. |

| Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds – If I Had a Gun Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| This song made me notice how similar Noel and Liam are. Not only is this Noel's response to I'm Outta Time, but only now I realised how their voices are very much alike. Especially in line, "And love would burn this city down for you" Noel sneers the last word "you" exactly like Liam would have done. They're brothers alright... | |

| I always thought that the song had an Arabic vibe to it, but now I think it's more of a Spanish vibe. The vocals are amazing and I think the two voices complement each other perfectly. | |
