Such a good song! I first heard it on Pretty Little Liars and loved it immediately. I have two interpretations of this song: 1) At first, I thought it was about realizing that you have to go back to your past sometimes and "dig up" things you loved that you gave up on for some reason or another. She can't stop thinking about whatever it is in her past that she wants to revitalize and she's asking someone (could be her significant other, but doesn't have to be) to support her and help her along this journey. 2) Then I looked at it from a different perspective and realized that it could be about restoring the passion that once existed in a relationship. "Passions that I lay to rest may still have some life in them." The lines "Well that's one thing that's still the same" and "Tell me that's one thing that hasn't changed" indicate that overall, things have certainly changed between them after being together for a while. She doesn't want to give up on the relationship and realizes that she's not okay and wants the old spark back, encouraging her partner to believe and help her find it again. |

| I think this song is about a relationship that's experiencing some tension because the guy doesn't want to open up to his girlfriend and be himself. She wants him to be honest about his feelings, but he won't let up. (examples: "if i'd ask for one thing, just say i love you, but i know you wont blink, truth wont pass your lips-i know. stop pretending" and "i'm surprised we got this far with that barricade but i want more") She's obviously frustrated by this and feels like he's almost trying to push her away, but at the same time she loves him enough to not give up on him so easily. By the end of the song, she's not sure if it's worth it to hold on any longer to the relationship. | |
