I think this song is about a relationship that's experiencing some tension because the guy doesn't want to open up to his girlfriend and be himself. She wants him to be honest about his feelings, but he won't let up. (examples: "if i'd ask for one thing, just say i love you, but i know you wont blink, truth wont pass your lips-i know. stop pretending" and "i'm surprised we got this far with that barricade but i want more") She's obviously frustrated by this and feels like he's almost trying to push her away, but at the same time she loves him enough to not give up on him so easily. By the end of the song, she's not sure if it's worth it to hold on any longer to the relationship.
I think this song is about a girl who is still in love with her ex that is dating someone else but they both still have feelings for her and she knows it. "and i'm surprised we got this far with that barricade but i want more i would be a fool to let you let me quit" The barricade being the new girlfriend and she knows he wants her to stop trying because it would be easier but she doesn't quit because they still love each other and she doesn't want to let that go By the end, she's tired of waiting though and is thinking about moving on
