Matt Nathanson – Run Lyrics 14 years ago
And then do dirty things with the person I've just fallen in love with. Seriously, both Matt Nathanson and Jennifer Nettles write some of the most provocative lyrics around. I love it.

@JesAnne - that sucks. Even if I don't know you, I'm sorry.

I think the end of a relationship is just one possibility for this song. I don't watch Vampire Diaries, though, so maybe that changes my perspective. I think it's just a song about any sort of crushing disappointment, especially when you started into a situation with high hopes. The great thing about this song (other than just its beauty because the music and harmony is so powerful) is that it is universal. Every single one of us have a way to relate because you can't get through life without being so disappointed in the outcome of something that you hit rock bottom.

I'm pretty sure it says "when the cure is made of poison, it's hard to REST YOUR EYES".

This all points to a pretty powerful experience and a lot of it makes more sense once I read the quote from him. I'm glad his Grandma was okay!

I also heard it was created in less than 24 hours. As some part of a magazine's Valentine's Day challenge or something, right?

I agree with the lyrics corrections posted, but I'm guessing the moderator hasn't seen or doesn't care.

To me, this song is two people who were in a relationship and one person didn't quite see it as the solid, tangible thing he was after so he left for selfish reasons, then realized his mistake and is doing everything he can to communicate that he was an idiot. He wants his partner to wait for him to come back from the journey he started.

I've never seen it anywhere for purchase. I downloaded it from a Google search. Several bootlegged copies came up. If I saw it for sale anywhere, I would buy it though!

I'm replying three plus years too late, but the version Matt recorded was not just him - it was him and Ellen Turner. You can find it on his "Still Waiting for Spring" album that was released in 1999. It sounds a lot different because it was before he did a major label release. It's still totally worth it though!

I also love the version with Ingrid Michaleson but I've only ever found it on YouTube and just the one video.

Matt Nathanson – Bent Lyrics 15 years ago
For those who said the guy in this song still loves the girl, I think you're wrong. I think he's looking back on all the ways he tried to be good to her, but she was too hell-bent on being bitter about her past to accept him. So now he's saying he'll just remember her as being bitter and selfish. Plus, in concert he said this could be considered a love song -- just as long as you hate the person. Also, I think he's hoping she'll always be sorry about the failure of this relationship.
