I fell in love with this song as I fell in love with the movie it is in, Teenage Dirtbag. I've got to say, I was amazed by the soundtrack for the movie, becuase all the songs they choice were so fitting towards the story, lyric wise and music wise. Especially this song. It's the perfect song to plat at the credits. "Waking up in the turning tide Was easier than living in your eyes, my love. And the paper let me use its face To tell you of all my disgrace." -- This is my favorite verse in the song. In the movie, the main character Thayer, a troubled and misunderstood teenage boy, supposedly drowns in a river. The first half of this verse is saying that dieing was actually easier than living in the world where he felt constantly and silently judged by Amber, the pretty, popular girl in his study hall and creative writing class who he formed a unstable friendship with and couldn't get to admit that she loved him, as he loved her. The second part of this verse is referring to the relationship they had through paper and writing. In study hall, they would write and pass notes to each other, where they formed a closeness and Thayer revealed things about himself and his brutal home life. The paper allowed him to do this. I don't want to give the whole movie away, but I will just conclude by saying that this song is absolutely beautiful, and Teenage Dirtbag is a beautiful (and in fact my favorite) movie, which I HIGHLY recommend. |

Sweet, mysterious, enticing song. I really like the original of this song, by Lords of the New Church, but I LOVE this version. Melanie Pain's voice just does it. I'm sure what I get from the lyrics is what most people probably get. Despite whether or not this person is bad for her, she want's them anyway. She wants the burning passion that comes with them. She wants them to take a chance with her, and allow themselves in to her world, and her's into theirs. |

I love beautiful songs that reflect on the sadness of murders, or serial killers. I agree with mathilde, it reminds me also of "John Wayne Gacy Jr" by Sufjan Stevens, another beautiful song about a notorious serial killer. I must add that I love the way he sings "Look out, look out" in the chorus; to me it sounds like he's really pleading. You can really hear the concern in his voice. |

I think this song is about trying to let go of the burden of a lingering guilt, and moving on. Moving on and finally allowing yourself to live. "Regrets collect like old friends Here to relive your darkest moments." -Regrets from your past come back oh-too-familiarly just to remind you of the moments you're not proud of. "And every demon wants his pound of flesh But I like to keep some things to myself." -The demon, or this guilt or burden, is eating away at them. But them would just prefer if you could have all of yourself. "I like to keep my issues strong, It's always darkest before the dawn." - Despite the issues this person has, she still wants to stay strong and if they are going to continue to be there and not kill her, then they should at least be stronger. And before the sun rises, you have to expect the darkest moments. Before things start to look brighter, you need to deal with the dark. "I can never leave the past behind I can see no way, I can see no way I'm always dragging that horse around." - The past is always haunting her. Her mistakes, the guilt, it's a heavy burden that she's left dragging around. "Tonight I'm gonna bury that horse in the ground" -Tonight she's going to say goodbye to the burden. "And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back So shake him off." - One of my favorite lines in the song. It's hard to dance, to have fun, to love, to live, with a heavy burden following you everywhere and weighing you down. So get rid of it. Don't let it stand in your way. "I am done with my graceless heart So tonight I'm gonna cut it out and then restart." -Another one of my favorite lyrics in the song. She's done with these messy, clumsy, awkward feelings. She wants to start thinking a new, more positive and brighter perspective. This song is simply amazing and empowering. It's a reminder that you can be easily reminded of your wrong decisions, but you cannot let them define you, and you cannot let them eat away at you. At some point, you have to let them go and live your life. |

I can't believe no one has commented on this song yet. It's absolutely beautiful, and I first heard it in the movie "Crazy Stupid Love." I especially love the opening lines, "There's a season in your eyes, and a fever on your breath." I think the song is about someone who is afraid to live. Someone who is afraid to let themselves go, and embrace the world. "You're anchored to the tide, and the rhythm in your chest." - This person is stuck. Tide, as in The rising and falling of the sea. This person is stuck just drifting along, or going along with the flow of something else that isn't made up by her choices. "The rhythm in your chest" can be something along the lines of a heavy heartbeat, or even a pounding yearning for something more. "you sing a static sonnet on the dial." - I interpret this as this person is whispering, or perhaps speaking in hushed tones all these sad and emotional words, or a sentiment, over the phone. "you could talk a walk, through the mines or you could spend all your days just waiting for the night." - You can open up; you can talk endlessly about all these things you want to do, or how you want to live, admit them to yourself, or you can just spend each day waiting for each day to end. And do nothing. "the stones that skip, the dust that turns to fire I see it all reflected in your eyes." - You know that saying that says eyes are windows to the soul? Fun, Chances, Passion, Life, all the things that this person wants... you can tell how much they want them just by looking at them. Just by looking deep in their eyes. |

| Metric – Ending Start Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Love this song, love this song, love his song, LOVE THIS SONG!! The chorus, is pure genious. It realllllyy makes me cry my eyes out. When you try to see, we'll watch you When you try to leave, we'll keep you When you should be dreaming, we'll wake you But don't scream, we'll make you swallow your words. To me, it represents isolation and not being able to have control of your own life. People who are constantly keeping there eye on you. People who wont let you leave them. Like, actually not ALLOWING u to leave. & not even allowing u to stray, or explore, or break free. People who snap u back to terrible reality and remind u of hwo cruel the world is, when u try to have even the smallest little dream. & if you try to whine, complain, or, lets say, STICK UP FOR YOURSELF, they wont allow you to do that either! They wont hear a word of it. They'll make it so everything u said was just pointless, becuase they wont even listen or consider how u feel. This song is so personal to me, and one of, if not THE best song by Metric. I love them. Emily Haines is such a beautiful, talented, GENIOUS woman. |

I want to reconcile the violence in your heart I want to recognise your beauty's not just a mask I want to exorcise the demons from your past I want to satisfy the undisclosed desires in your heart You trick your lovers That you're wicked and divine You may be a sinner But your innocence is mine Absolutely, to me, the most beautiful & sweetest lyrics ever. My FAVORITE Muse song. |

| Band of Horses – The Funeral Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
"At every occasion I'll be ready for a funeral". I LOVE IT!! SUCH a beautiful song! Such a beautiful, and truthful line. It probably IS about funerals, and death, and loss. But to me, this song is kind of more personal, and has more meaning to me... with that one line. Every time I hear that line, "At every occasion I'll be ready for a funeral", I feel like what he's saying is that just when things begin to look good, they go bad. So everytime something seems good or too good to be true, he expectings things to go wrong, things to come crumbling down. The way I see it is...occasions are usually happy, blissful, good things right? As for a funeral...it's the opposite. Sad, unpleasent, not what you want. To me it sounds like he has accepted that good things dont last, and whenever a good thing does happen, he will expect the bad to eventually happen, and take the good away... Thats just my opinion, different i know. |
