It's not but it would have been nearly a perfect fit as an ode to Janis. Change "room ten 0 nine" to "room one 0 five" and maybe another word or two and it would have been spot on to have been about her. |

One commenter posted that this song is self explanitory; I don't think so because nobody who's posting here knows what it's about. It's a story about a guy leaving to go to Canada or Sweden to avoid being drafted into the service for the Viet Nam war. That's one reason why it appealed to Peter, Paul and Mary. If Frank Sinatra knew this then maybe he wouldn't have recorded it! |

Yea, stupid Hollywood types that can't keep their mouth shut about issues they know nothing about; you mean like that B grade actor, General Electric corporate shill and FBI informant Ronald Reagan right? |

| Traffic – John Barleycorn Lyrics

It's readily apparent what Traffic's interpretation of the song is if you have the vinyl LP. There's an asterisk after the description of the songs origin with the comment that "there are other meanings". The song is about the effort to enforce the prohibition of alcohol chronicling the three men's attempts and their ultimate failure. The reference to "other meanings" referred to the then contemporary efforts at marijuana prohibition! |

| Traffic – Roamin' Thru the Gloamin' with 40,000 Headmen Lyrics

You have to understand that Traffic's first three albums came out at the height of the psychedelic period of the 60's. 40,000 Headmen was a fantasy that meshed perfectly with the LSD mindset. The interpretations are great, showing that songs like this have longevity. |
