Acoasm, get what you're saying. I don't believe in any religion. I believe in myself, I believe that religions were created to give some sort of rule set and explanation for our existence for the civilizations of old. ABR's song "Marianas Trench" (to me) talks about how Christianity is not equipped in our modern world to explain or deal with things like evolution and other proven subjects, or other ways of life that are frowned upon by their faith. The only constant is change, and if religions can't change to match our modern and evolving world then they will be swept beneath the truth of the universe. I don't believe in any god, I see the universe we live in as a far more beautiful place knowing that it all happened on its own naturally. There are many possibilities as to what triggered the big bang, but in no way am I ready to hop on some age old bandwagon and live my life hoping that one possible reason for our creation was some deity outside our universe creating things. The fact that our universe is infinite and still expanding exponentially just shows that we are by no means the center of it, or the only ones here. It shows the fragility of life and how we must just enjoy it and no matter where or how you choose to lead it, in the end the only impact you will have will be on those who can observe said impact. (ie: the people you know and care for) So enjoy your lives, respect others around you, and have the best damned time you possibly can!! I love ABR for such great music and thought provoking lyrics. What they're saying through them is one thing, but to us, all that we have IS the lyrics so we can make what we want of them. Spread the love |

I believe you are right with the Titanic, but I believe it goes deeper than that. The Titanic can be a metaphor for a relationship. Both parties believing they are unsinkable, they carry on as if nothing can or will come between them. My favorite lines are 'a black diamond left in the sea, a prism with a hopeless color scheme' I don't know where this fits into the relationship scheme, but it reminds me of me in some ways. I may be wrong, and its just one of those arbitrary hopesfall-esque songs about the Titanic and the people who had the audacity to think that the ship was unsinkable. =] |

same here. the whole song just leads up to it. (if we could see more than we believe the earth would swallow you) that last line is my favourite part of magnetic north. as for what it means.... i couldnt tell you i love the lyrics regardless, because they aren't devoid of meaning. it just might take some decyphering |

It's talking about how religion is decaying. Religion can't swim under the weight of all the controversy that is being brought to light in our modern world. The Religions of the world swam and flourished with the world of yesterday, before TV and Computers. Before we had people questioning it without being killed. Now those who aren't under its control don't perish, we have established scientific methods and gone against everything that different religions claimed. The ship for religion has sailed, or more according to this song... Sunk. They are armed to the teeth, but their swords are lodged in their throats. This means they were prepared to defend their beliefs to the end, but their own ways have made them blind to the truth of the world today. It doesn't wait for anyone. If a religion can't catch up and evolve like .... EVOLUTION... it will sink into the depths of our past. Our grandparents all went to church, or knew people who did every week. This was common. I know about 2 people who go to church who are my age. Religion is dying. But the bottom of the ocean is pretty cool. |

I could claim that god is a winged monkey in another dimension that shoots lasers from its nose while riding a tricycle backwards. You don't have the means to prove me wrong, so does that make it the truth? And if you were to prove me wrong, you would have to use science (or common sense). You lose either way. I'm not saying that I think all god believers to be stupid, I just think they should open their minds to the possibility that should there be no god this whole time, how brilliant is the universe we live in? It was created on its OWN? I think a mass realization of this by god followers would lead to further appreciation of nature, the universe itself, and humanity as a whole. Far less wars over 'sacred lands' and superstitions and fear in people who could be living more self driven lives. Open your mind to the truth. |

| If you actually listen to the song, it sounds more like 'proven fiction' despite what the booklet it comes with says. I find it fits better too. If only the band were to reply... lol | |

| Really good breakdown of the song, you've got it spot on minus maybe one thing. I don't think that the penultimate line so much of a biblical reference as it is just an expression. To be caught in the belly of the beast, is to be in the center of enemy territory. To be knee deep in it is even worse. I don't think that Darkest Hour would reference the bible unless it is to chastise the conformity or structure of religion. Or even the idea of it. (See the song No God - By Darkest Hour, I think they make their point pretty clear. http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858778373/) | |
