The Rolling Stones – Send It To Me Lyrics 8 years ago
Mick is saying no matter who this girl is he will take comfort in her. He accepts her for who she is. Everything else is irrelevant.

Eagles – Journey of the Sorcerer Lyrics 9 years ago
The lead acoustic guitar on this gets me everytime. It sends my mind into a state of ambition and disillusionment at the same time. Probably the way Bernie felt knowing his exit was around the corner.

Catherine Wheel – Black Metallic Lyrics 9 years ago
I agree with majority insights on here. The verses are basically nostalgia and frustration wrapped into a whole. My main interpretation is noticing when he sings the chorus repetitively throughout the song "It's the colour of your skin." Listen to the tone of this, it's almost a cry of disbelief each time of what seemed so promising. I believe he is reminiscing on how beautiful that person may be still on the outside or once was at first (which is the likely cause) because he then turns the realization and disappointment of his thoughts towards them to "Your skin is black metallic." They turned sour in the end and it broke him. That person is no longer beautiful to him but infact they are merely cold, shiny and dark. Black Metallic.

The Rolling Stones – Moon Is Up Lyrics 9 years ago
I'm born on July 4 and the archetypical Cancer sign. This song makes complete sense to me with the Moon being my ruling planet. All of the imagery regarding the sun, clouds, etc. is just a great top off. I've been buzzing off this song all year. I put it up there with the Stones classics.

Elton John – Love Song Lyrics 10 years ago
It really is a "love song" nothing else. Bernie is showing his affection for some girl. The verses remind me of "Your Song" while the choruses are simple messages in life about love and believing it. Anybody else notice the guitar chords are very similar to "Dear Prudence?" I'm stunned how much whoever is harmonizing with Elton because they sound like Simon & Garfunkel together. Lovely song!

Fleetwood Mac – Sara Lyrics 10 years ago
Such a beautiful song to start with. Honestly for me there are two things that mean so much to me about this song. One being that the only girl I ever truly cared for was named "Sarah", yes with the "h" on the end but still said the same way. I really did love her but she turned her back on me and disappeared. This song means a lot to me because she was "the poet in my heart" once we started getting close because then I started writing songs about her specifically because I am a songwriter and still am this many years later. Just the way she was around me brought me so much joy and happiness it sparked something in my head to write so much about her. When I heard that line in this song it just blew me away. I know this song has nothing to do with the situation I just mentioned but that's how it got to me and it's amazing how a song can do that to you. Oh and the second thing that means so much to me about this song is that my mum once told me when she was on the way to the church in the fancy limo to get married to my dad and this song was playing on the radio.

The Posies – Solar Sister Lyrics 10 years ago
Michial pretty much said what I was going to say in that last bit. I will add though that Ken Stringfellow said during a beautiful acoustic version found on Youtube that "the song is an anthem of admiration for a person who doesn't appreciate themselves." Also that "it's woven into all sorts of mysterious things, mystical perhaps." Jon Auer added right after that with "there is a lot of succulent and dripping imagery too." Beautiful song, I suggest the acoustic version to anyone who just knows the album version.

The Verve – No Come Down Lyrics 11 years ago
Originally this song was called "Verve Are Rising," look it up on Youtube. This song is such a trip it brings back all of my old drug memories.

U2 – Wake Up Dead Man Lyrics 11 years ago
I love the album POP but it always struck me that the album started at a party (Discotheque) then concludes with a death or overdose (that being Wake Up Dead Man.) Just think about that...

The Smashing Pumpkins – Beautiful Lyrics 11 years ago
"don't let your life wrap up around you
don't forget to call, whenever
i'll be here just waiting for you
i'll be under your stars forever
neither here nor there, just right beside you
i'll be under the stairs forever
neither here nor there, just right beside you."

That just sums up everything I've ever wanted to say to the one girl I couldn't have. Anyway I truly believe the ending part of this song is one of the most "beautiful" moments in musical history. Just listen to how beautifully and soft Billy sings the "forever" bits, as well as the "Here nor there" bits. It's almost like he's wept while singing this ending stanza of the song. Beautiful.

The Verve – See You In The Next One (Have A Good Time) Lyrics 11 years ago
I've commented on a few of Verve's early songs but this one seems pretty easy for me. Ashcroft is saying goodbye to a lover, we can all relate. I believe the whole "See you in the next one, have a good time" line means see you in another life and his way of saying goodbye and to enjoy yourself along the way. We've all been there where you liked the way a relationship was, you remember the good moments and now that it's over you dwell on it and hate that it turned sour or you had to say goodbye. By the way I think Nick McCabe's piano is flawless in this song as it really sets the tone.

Peter Gabriel – Big Time Lyrics 11 years ago
Always thought this song to mean Peter Gabriel was making something of his solo career and it's how it makes me feel because I want to be a musician too. I came from a small town in the Bay Area and once in a while had my exposure to the big city like SF or even travelling through LA while on my way to my new home here in the Phoenix area. Sometimes when you travel through whatever big city it may be you just get a feeling of I want to be part of this and like Gabriel says "be a big noise with all the big boys." I think this is really about fame and stardom and all the rest. I think he's basically saying he's going to the big city for the big career and will settle for nothing less and to live the life.

Blur – Coffee & TV Lyrics 11 years ago
For me the second verse sums everything up about me being an anglophile (a person who is fond of or greatly admires England or Britain.) I know the song is not about this but these lines always hit home for me. When I hear the second verse I think back to my mates house who is Scottish but born in England and how we used to spend plenty of days and nights out in his mansion in our hometown (Bay Area) which was out in the country and funnily enough was located on a street called "Country Lane." "Do you go to the country
It isn't very far.." I went there every day and it was only 15 minutes from my house. I used to be paranoid all the time cause we were smoking dope so I felt people were after me a lot and most of the other kids from school didn't approve of who I was. "There's people there who'll hurt you 'cause of who you are." Then to basically wrap this all up I found myself being so fascinated by this culture at this house and I started becoming apart of their culture because this family took me in so many times. And yes I even had a pint or two once in a while so I started getting drunk because I was only 17 and the didn't mind (I'm now 23.) "Your ears are full of their language, there's wisdom there you're sure 'till the words start swirling/slurring and you can't find the door." That final line is the nail into the coffin, I never wanted to leave. I hung around for 2 years, growing more and more attached every visit but it did eventually end as I am now in Arizona and haven't seen "Country Lane" in a while or my friend and his family. This is just how I feel about the song lyrics and not what I really think it means as I doubt Graham Coxon was writing about my situation but somehow I do relate to this song (especially the 2nd verse) every time as well as the whole song. Good song from a good band. Cheers!

The Verve – Beautiful Mind Lyrics 11 years ago
My interpretation of this song is that it is about the comedown of drugs, either pot, Ecstasy or acid. The whole song feels like your on a trip and it's ending fairly soon. It's beautiful guitar work from Nick McCabe he even went on to tell me this was his favorite song. This is what he said: "I really love Beautiful Mind. The three of us had that ready to go for the Forth tours, I think it's hard for a singer (Ashcroft) to go back to a place they've truly left behind though."

Bad Company – Seagull Lyrics 11 years ago
could be about drugs but my thought on this song is that it is about someone who once had it all and by that i mean they had the world in the palm of their hands cause of so much potential and now they have disappeared forever. they are now a Seagull just simply going home.

Stereophonics – Goldfish Bowl Lyrics 11 years ago
well from what I know, life in a "Goldfish Bowl" means everyone is looking at you or better yet knows who you are. So what I think Kelly is trying to say here is that he might be a little insecure, hence the lines: "I'm drinking, sinking, swimming, drowning, working, smirking, learning, burning, sleeping, thieving, cheating, beating, I'm eating I'm deep in a goldfish bowl." He might be a little anxious about all of these activities he does.

The Verve – Blue Lyrics 12 years ago
"Blue, I've got a question every time I hold you
Yeah, Blue, I've got a question every time I swallow you it's true

Spike danced for 10 days long
We were just heading for the sun"

I'm positive this is a reference to Ecstasy. I've already commented on a few other early Verve songs and most of my interpretations refer to drugs (mainly E) but that's what I truly believe most of these songs are about, that being Ashcroft's experiences with E.

The Verve – Feel Lyrics 12 years ago
wow first comment? come on people this is the greatest B-side the Verve have!

Anyway, I believe this song is about how Mr. Ashcroft is "numb" from all the drugs he has taken. "And I want to know, And I want to be, And I want to feel" he wants to know the meaning behind things (I want to know), he has dreams and aspirations (I want to be), he wants to be alive (I want to feel).

The Verve – Make It 'Til Monday Lyrics 12 years ago
obviously about a Friday night on drugs, likely E. Ashcroft is scared cause he's tripping hard, hence why he's asking "Hey my friend are we gonna make it till Monday?"

The Verve – Endless Life Lyrics 12 years ago
Drugs and more drugs. "As we turned, As we rolled, I felt something strange, I felt you, Something light, Something so bright, I think it was the way of things" this is great imagery into a night on E which by the way the Verve were famous for taking shitloads of haha. Anyway he's "rolling" with his mates (term for when your extremely high and tripping off of Ecstasy). Then when he says "I felt you" and those remaining lines i think he's having a revelation. Then of course we wonder why the song is called "Endless Life"? Probably because he doesn't ever want this night and this high he has to ever end, he's untouchable, he's in his comfort zone. I've always thought this song could have been played on the movie Gladiator haha it just seems like it would have fit on the soundtrack.

The Verve – Virtual World Lyrics 12 years ago
"No one knows my name I'm not in demand" i think we all know that feeling right? "Signs are right, The signs are here, Who needs virtual world, When I can see it now, I can see it now, oh now, oh now, now" I think this is Ashcroft's personality telling us "hey we can change and do something about this, we can be noticed" so he's asking "who needs Virtual World?" cause he can see it now, so why can't you? "No one goes no one cares, No one seen it anywhere" pretty much saying he's displeased with everyone cause they won't see things the way he sees them, no one cares. "She's breathing life into lonely dead stars, Have you ever seen it, I ain't seen nothing at all" Obviously this about a girl who helps others that are lonely and lost and he's wondering why she hasn't helped him cause he's just not seeing it. A lot of Verve songs have that drug feel as well as depressive side to them and I definitely feel this is one of them.

Its really tough for me to sit here and analyze this song as a whole cause i think you just gotta interpret it line by line. That being said I simply just think this song is about Ashcroft's own "Virtual World" which is something we all have and I also think it's about some girl whose right there in this world that he lives in, yet it seems like he doesn't really give two shits about her haha just read the chorus if you don't believe me. One of my favorite Verve songs, I listen to it every morning I drive to work at about 5:45 AM and for some reason it just comforts me. Long live the Verve!

U2 – A Sort Of Homecoming Lyrics 12 years ago
"Oh don't sorrow, no don't weep
For tonight, at last
I am coming home
I am coming home"

These are the ending lyrics to the song and they always hit me for some reason. Pretty much a short story of my life is that I've lived in the same town my whole lifetime and never really been anywhere far but for some reason every time I go out on the town or to a mates house and then return home I think of my mother and these ending lyrics because this is what I would say to her because she constantly worries about me. Anyway, great song by a great band.

New Radicals – I Hope I Didn't Just Give Away The Ending Lyrics 14 years ago
everytime i listen to this (which is the highlight of this album) i look back on a past relationship. i didnt do a porno film for a coke but that line kinda reminds you of everything you would do when your with someone you really like. although theres that thought stemmed in the back of your mind that tells you this wont work out and will end soon, the truth is you cant take it alone and will take anyone that makes you feel good. i think the main theme here is sex and drugs. sex and drugs are fun and all but eventually you gotta grow up because shit starts going bad. very much a complaint song (as is the whole album) but it is telling us a story of some crazy shit and how he is upset and angry looking back on it. i think this is obviously about a girl but the story seems complete nonsense that gregg alexander just wrote in 15 minutes. you cant help but feel related to some of the lyrics on here.

New Radicals – You Get What You Give Lyrics 14 years ago
because no one else on here is really saying what they think the meaning is besides being "happy", i will just go ahead and say i think this song is about going out and fucking having every minute of your life. i think its more of a reflection on good times you had with your friends or someone special and now they are possibly no longer in your life but you still remember everything about them. its about not letting anything or anyone get in your way.

U2 – Desire Lyrics 14 years ago
this is my interpretation of the 2nd verse and what it means to me...
ive always thought this what about the DESIRE to shoot up heroin, atleast in a addicts state of mind. why you ask?

"She's a candle burning in my room
Yeah, I'm like the needle, needle and spoon
Over the counter with a shotgun
Pretty soon, everybody got one
And the fever, when I'm beside her"

ingredients to heroin: candle (flame), needle, spoon, shotgun (something to shoot into your blood).
the line "everybody got one" is like saying everyone is happy now that their high. whoever this song is for or about they've got the fever for someone and are going after them, hence DESIRE!!!

U2 – Lemon Lyrics 14 years ago
ive tried to figure out what this one is about but i cant. edge's voice throughout the whole song brings on a atmospheric feel while bono sings in the fat lady voice. the line "through the light projected he can see himself up close" is a feeling of finding yourself again or even for the first time. "midnight is where the day begins" is simply restarting things and rolling over to the new day. i always thought the lyrics were and sound like "GOODBYE is where the day begins" but i was wrong. if i had to guess the meaning to this song it seems to be about man in general and how we try to find ourselves day in and day out, we all dream of leaving but most of us stay behind.

Third Eye Blind – Jumper Lyrics 14 years ago
obviously its an anti-suicide song. but for me i always feel a bit different about it personally. one reason is the line "if you do not want to see me again, i would understand", anytime i have trouble with a girl and things arent working this is the line that comes straight to my head and sums up everything i want to say to her. almost as if me saying "hey this is what i am, if you dont like it then fine, i would understand."

The Verve – Weeping Willow Lyrics 15 years ago
i definitely think this song is about suicide. when i first listened to urban hymns i was totally into the usuals: bittersweet symphony, lucky man, sonnet, etc.... but then i found weeping willow and it blew my fucking head off. i suffer from manic depression and suicide thoughts, im also bi-polar, but the point is that this song explained life to me, it is the #1 soundtrack hit to my life. to top this off in november 2009 i totalled my car, the road i was on where i crashed was called "WILLOW" and I was left WEEPING :( i still can't get over that even to this day. nonetheless it's a beautiful song. i'd like to have it played at my funeral someday. peace
