I seriously rewrote this three times. I think this song is about not being true to yourself, and kind of living entirely by the standards parents/guardians/society/record labels (since they're ironically signed to Capital Records).
"I do anything that I'm told to" - a life entirely controlled not by the person but the source I guess?
"I go to Church as I'm expected to" - lol. i don't know a lot of people who actually enjoy going to church, so I feel like it's one of those standards his/the characters life. so again, going by the rules/what's viewed as morally correct in his/that society.
i feel like it could also be a satire towards all the bands that are "selling out" as well... i like my first theory more :) |

It gives me the chills every time I listen to this song. Blatant it's about God and/or Jesus? Some sort of higher being. I haven't really sat down long enough long enough to really pull apart each section, but by far, favourite song off of empire theory album. It blows my mind away every time I listen to. |

I actually think this song is about his current girlfriend, not Crystal. I think this song was entirely directed as an I-Hate-You-Crystal thing. Especially because he's REALLY happy with his current girl, whom of which is absolutely stunning. |

Here's were you are wrong. JONNY (there is no H) did not get kicked out of the band, but LEFT by CHOICE. He did have a drug abuse problem, which you are right about, but he was already in "recovery" (as he put it) when he was with DGD. He left DGD because of some tension between him and other band members. I had a thorough conversation with him at a Richmond show last March, so please, before get your facts straight. |
