| The Silver Jews – Time Will Break the World Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I think this song is about his father, apparently a powerful lobbyist for some pretty powerful & heinous interests (whom he outed when he announced the end of the Jews). He even mentioned that the Tanning Salon Owners of America count among his dad's clients. "And I have no idea what drives you, mister But I've killed you in my mind so many times before" http://stereogum.com/47621/silver_jew_calls_it_quits_exposes_dad/news/ |

"Home is where I want to be But I guess I'm already there" --from This Must Be the Place This song is like a the [modern-day] answer to David Byrne's [only] love song. The the speaker and the subject are in love, but the subject is unsatisfied. I think the song is meant to depict the complicated mix of emotions involved in love, whereas Byrne's vision of being there (home) was rather myopic. You can be there and still be apprehensive. One may call it "settling," but I think it's more about readjusting our unrealistic, overly simplified expectations about the complexity of love (and life--I do feel this theme is also intended to apply more generally to the confusion and complexity of being human and trying to relate to others but still feeling alone). The last line ("until the night") is especially indicative of the premise that life and love are only simple and easy in one's dreams. |

| While I agree that the omitted lyrics denote some anxiety, I also think that this is a case where he says infinitely more in silence. Also, the use of future tense is brilliant as it adds to the feeling of jumping off into the unknown. | |

| I have been and probably still am this person. The type that's only really comfortable if they're constantly moving. Hop in a car, drive thousands of miles alone, happily and sleep on mountains. He can't be still except in the memory of someone else and even then he can left swiftly. He can't let others into his inner world, but he still desperately wants a piece of him remembered by them. | |

| This song is sexy and unbelievably beautiful. I'm surprised it has no comments. | |
| Clinic – Distortions Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I think this is an illuminating and overlooked clue to the meaning behind these lyrics. I think the speaker is gendered male, but born with the sexual organs of a female. I think the struggle is the mis-match of the speaker's internal reality with his/her outward appearance. | |
