| Thanks and yes "This is where robbers meet to go through my window" makes more sense :) I think it might be "Son, they say" as well. Thanks for the help! | |

To me it's about a person who's coping with losing/missing someone who has passed away. The narrator is the I/me/someone and is singing to the person who has passed (the you). I imagine a kid with a heavy heart walking at a funeral, past all the people his mother/father has let into her/his life. The narrator wishes he could be there for the child. The way I see it the narrator wishes to be rid of expectations and responsibility and imagines it would be a kindness to forget/escape what has happened. He wishes he was strong enough to move on, one way or the other (in a normal healthy way or by suicide). What has happened has also made the narrator questions his existence/faith/spirituality. To me the cloud behind the cloud is a way of saying there's no heaven, no God, just clouds. And I could hear you sneak around so easily is a way of describing how the narrator finds it easy to imagine that the person who has passed is still around. |

Different live versions: I say come Spend the night We can jump on my bed Unwrap me now like your birthday present I will, I will, I will, I will, I will, I will You will, you will, you will, you will be easy I want to be easy on you And I can be cruel But let me be gentle with you Come with that bag And come find me to bed Take away all the pain with that good medicine I will be easy I want to be easy for you And I can be cruel But let me be gentle with you Well I say come spend the night You can jump on my bed Unwrap me now like your birthday present I will, I will be easy I want to be easy on you And I can be cruel But let me be gentle with you |

About: They say the sun won't burn forever That's a science too exact I can prove it, watch, we're crossing the state line See those headlights coming towards us? That's someone going back To a town they said they'd never, yeah They swore it on their lives I always thought he meant it as kind of a never say never, as in these people say they're never going back to somewhere they lived previously, hometown maybe, they're so sure, even swear it on their life, but still they end up going back. I think the statement about the sun is a comparison to that, even if we think we're sure the sun won't burn forever, even we think it's true when we say it, we don't know what might or might not happen in the future. |

| My Morning Jacket – Lowdown Lyrics | 15 years ago |

To me he's singing to a person that's been treated badly in an earlier relationship and who's having a hard time trusting someone new because of that, trying to assure her that a relationship with him wouldn't be like that earlier relationship. lowdown, cheatin, aint no need for repeatin, so love, dawg, cant ye see? That you never gotta fight with me. - The persons earlier relationship had lowdowns and cheating, but he's saying there's no need to repeat that, because you never have to fight with him. Urging her to open her eyes and see that. Hurtin. Beatin. Aint no need for repeatin, so love dawg cant ye see, that you never gotta bleed for me. - The persons earlier relationship also had hurt and beating, but yet again, he's saying that they're not going to repeat that, because she doesn't have to bleed for him, no hurting/beating. Chancing, glancing, sho nuff mood for romancing so love dawg cant ye see that you only gotta dance with me. - Changing and glancing (flirting in the beginning of a new relationsip), good mood for romancing, nothing like the bad earlier relationship (you only gotta dance with me). |

To me it seems like it's about touring, probably with My Morning Jacket, but that's hard to say, the first part being about coming home to an empty house after a tour. The second I see as an urging to try and have fun in everything you do, positivity being a very common thread in most songs by Jim James. The third part again about touring, saying that earlier, way back, touring used to be more fun, the greatest quest, but now sometimes he gets bored even though he knows he should be blessed (that he can make a living out of music). He goes on to describe that touring, coming and going, makes it hard to keep friends and that he’s tired of doing nothing and feel like they (the band perhaps) should be making plans instead. Jim James has talked in interviews about working on other paths than the musical one and about eventually making a family, so possibly something to do with that. |

He did commented on this when performing it live in 2007, saying that: "When I went to the UK college my roommate's name was Todd and he was very intelligent. We used to have this saying, whenever we would say something that we really liked we'd say eee. Like if a hot girl walked by, eee that girl is hot. So in this song, there's a place where I do that" |

| Yes, thank you, this is how I've always interpreted the song too and like scottyp says, it seems pretty obvious to me. | |

Jim James said the following about this song in an interview: "It's about a lot of things. There's a line where I say, "I believe none of this is physical." It is kind of a reaction to, in today's world, so much being based on the physical. So much is based on people's appearance and fashion. So many bands seem like they're a part of a fashion show and they don't even give a shit about their music. It's about loving a song because of the way it makes you feel, not because the people playing it are wearing duck costumes or because there's 30 people on stage. It's about falling in love with someone because of the way they make you feel, as opposed to them wearing tight jeans and being hot. I'm just trying to escape from the fuckin' constant, physically driven fashion show that the world has become" |
