@[ragna:49505] You need to listen closer. It is one of 2 songs that drop the F bomb and gets played on the radio. "Who are You" is the other one. |

| Donald Fagen – Walk Between Raindrops Lyrics | 7 years ago |
| @[savino76:27274] Nah. The Cubs started coming in en mass in 1980. Obviously the album is a concept album of 1957-1963ish. The black shadow is simply the cloud that create the raindrops in the title. | |
| Steve Miller Band – Brave New World Lyrics | 7 years ago |
|
"I told you, my friend And I'll tell you again Your TRIP has begun" Methinks the song is about the Lysergic. |

| Donald Fagen – I.G.Y. (International Geophysical Year) Lyrics | 8 years ago |
|
I think most of the people are just a bit off on the whole matter. The majority of comments seem to feel that Fagen is being ironic or sarcastic. But I think that isn't quite what is going on here. I think he is looking back in 1957 when he was 9 and he has fond memories of those times. Sure everything didn't quite work out like everybody thought, but I think he is looking at it from a more wistful vibe than the classic Steely Dan hipster smart alec teenagers sitting in the back row aura. There is a bit of evidence to support my theory. In interviews and the like he has always said he was kind of embarrassed and somewhat went into hiding because this album was my far his most personal. He was revealing an actual fondness for the good ole days which is most un Steely Dan like. Of course, there IS tons of irony...but the whole album is clearly a loving homage to the 1957-1963 era. Sure...lots of the lyrics in the album may be construed as "wry" but I think the entire album was a loving look back to when he was a sci fi geek kid and saying "Hey maybe the old days were actually pretty good". Remember, at this point he was 34, Steely Dan was done and he was getting older. |

@[AlphaE:12492] I am a guy who detests chick music. But this possibly is the one and only chick song I really love. It is just a great, great melody. A finely crafted pop song. |

@[bradleyb:12491] Yeah. The 90s are a criminally underrated decade. No wars. Good economy. Good music. |

| Lenny Kravitz – Just Be A Woman Lyrics | 9 years ago |
|
It is astonishing that I am the first person to comment (in 2016) on this great song on such a popular album. The girl is asking the guy what can she do to make herself a better girlfriend and he replies just be a woman. |

| Stereolab – Ping Pong Lyrics | 9 years ago |
|
@[JamesLove:12327] The GFC was caused by government intervention. For example, the United States made the politically correct by intellectually incorrect move of forcing banks to deadbeats. The deadbeats predictably defaulted. The idiotic socialist naturally blamed the banks. Singapore is in much better financial shape than Finland and France which are bankrupt. While Australia, NZ and Switzerland have government intervention, they have less than the US and considerably less problems than the socialist darling countries of Europe such as Greece. As for the Scandinavian countries that Bernie Sanders loves: 1) They were better off decades ago before they went socialist. 2) Scandinavians are much better off in countries (such as the US) that more are free market orientated than Scandinavia. How many poor people of Scandinavian descent do you see in the US? 3) The demographics in the US are completely different than Scandinavia. Blacks and Spanish suck off the government tit more than people of Scandinavian descent. Blacks and Spanish are nowhere near as common in Scandinavian countries. So Bernie Sanders Scandinavian fantasy is just that...fantasy. Socialists are nothing more than lazy thieves stealing from hard working productive people. The doers simply leave those countries and go elsewhere. |

Not too politically correct these days, but are things really better now? Divorce rate up quite a bit since 1963. Ditto for children born out of wedlock. Something to think about. |

| Stereolab – Ping Pong Lyrics | 12 years ago |

The great irony is that poor economies all across the globe are the result of socialism, not capitalism. Take a look at Greece, Spain, etc. They are all socialist countires. The capitalist countries are doing much better. Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, Switzerland and New Zealand. |

| Joe Walsh – Midnight Visitor Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
Joe Walsh says in his liner notes to "Look What I Did!" that the stong is about Stryder in The Hobbit who is a ranger. However, I believe he is refering to Strider who first is introduced in The Fellowship of the Ring. I just read the Hobbit and I don't remember any Stryder or Strider. However, let's cut Joe some slack if his memory isn't what it used to be. Close enough. |

| Deee-Lite – DMT (Dance Music Trance) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
Deee-lite was being coy in calling this song DMT (Dance Music Trance). DMT is the most interesting psychedelic drug of them all. Some people think that it is the key to another dimension rather than a psychedelic drug. DMT is one of the rare psychedelic drug found in the human body. When taking DMT, users often enounter alien beings and communication with them telepathically. Another interesting characteristic of DMT is many users think they are dead and the experience is realer than what we call reality. I suspected something was a bit weird about calling the song DMT. I had never heard of the drug previous to hearing this song. So I GOOGled it and did some research. It is very interesting stuff. |

| Seals & Crofts – King of Nothing Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
It is unbelievable that I am the first person to comment on this great song here in 2012. This song is about a person who is getting up there in years who realizes that his youth's dreams are unrealized. I thought he was going to have the cash and get the girl. Well it is years later and it is starting to become increasingly obvious that his life isn't going as well as he had hoped. They say the most depressing year of a man's life is 43. That is because at that age you know whether or not you are going to be a success or not. The narrator in this song has come to the realization that he is going to be just another Joe Blow in life and it is depressing. |

| Tom Petty – Fooled Again (I Don't Like It) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Tom calls up his girlfriend. Some dude answers the phone and tells Tom to leave his gf along. Tom is a bit taken aback by this turn of events. He wasn't expecting this at all. However, this isn't the first time something like this has happened to Tom. Yet another cheating woman to add to the list. "You never said you had no number two." She never told him she WASN'T seeing anybody else now that he is thinking about it. Well after the phone incident, Tom wants answers. If two people make one than he is starting to think he is the third wheel in this relationship. And "It's good to see you think so much of me" is Tom sarcasticly saying thanks for giving him a fair warning on the situation-NOT. |

| Nazareth – Hair of the Dog Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
The lyrics are obviously about a bitch who is about to meet her match in a bad boy. The "Hair of the Dog" title is an allegory of she mistreats people and she is going to get a little taste of her own medicine, similiar how when people get drunk and then drink again after a hangover. The best way to deal with bitches is to be an even bigger asshole. Hence "Hair of the Dog." |
|
| Neil Young – One Of These Days Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
What outstanding lyrics. The content deals with an issue that may not have been addressed in a pop song before-the phenomenon of how as we get older, we lose touch with friends who have at one point in our lives have been very important to us. Friends from grade school, high school, college, whatever, that you haven't seen, talked to or dealt with at all for a very long time. It is weird how you can be so close to somebody for years and without really having too much go wrong, you will probably never communicate with them for the rest of your life. It really is kind of sad as we are on this rock for a century tops and that is it. Between work and family and moving and shifting interests, many friends seem to vanish over time. How many times have you wondered about somebody and said to yourself "I wonder how he is doing. I should drop him a line." Then you wake up the next day and you are on to more pressing matters. It really is sad when you think about it. It would be nice to see some of those people again. But it probably won't ever happen. |

| The Cardigans – Your New Cuckoo Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
This deals with the feeling everybody gets when they see their ex out with somebody else. It also touches about the observation that the guy is feeding the new girl the same old lines. The singer that those lines were true and meant for her. Nope. The guy is just trying to get laid. This song is Beatlesque in quality. |
|
| The Cardigans – Happy Meal II Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Sad that a song of this quality never made it on the radio. | |
| Everclear – Unemployed Boyfriend Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I am surprised nobody got it. It is about the guy who hit on his wife and eventually stole her away from Art. Art is the guy in the gamous band. The song is from the perverse perspective of the guy hitting on his wife. |

| Everclear – Thrift Store Chair Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
This album has the best lyrics of any album I have bot over the past 20 maybe 30 years. It tells the story of a breakup of a marriage. It actually is a concept album. American Movie could be my favorite album of last decade. I hated it at first but as time went on I began to appreciate its magnificance. |

| Peggy Lee – Is That All There Is? Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Also, the party at the end is not a jubilant party. It has a undercurrent of sadness to it. | |
| Peggy Lee – Is That All There Is? Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Well it looks like I have the first Peggy Lee comment. They used to play this song at the end of the Hoolihan and Big Chuck show (later Big Chuck and Little John show) in Cleveland, Ohio. Anyway it is a very interesting song indeed. Very deep and profound. Well written. Basically house catches on fire, go to a circus. Fall in love and ultimately on your deathbed, is that all there is? This is a song that really makes you think. Basically you go through all this stuff in life and really...who cares? What is the big deal? Nothing spectacular happens. You win the football game, get married, make a lot of money, have kids and at the end of the day....whatever. You go through life expecting the big thing and really...whatever happens that is really important or signficant in the big picture? What would be interesting is to see a real live ghost or a close up of a UFO or have something really significant happen. But nothing ever seems to. You live, you die and 200 years from now, nobody is going to care or know who the hell you were. And the break out the booze is like....F*** it. No sense in getting all mellodramatic or whatever. Enjoy it while it is here and don't get all hung up. Eventually we are all going to kick off anyway. Ultimately, this song is about sadness that the great optimism that we had of life as kids and all the possibilities that await us...it really didn't live up to the hype now did it? |

| Pet Shop Boys – Saturday Night Forever Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
One of the greatest going out songs of all time. No doubt about it. Pretty straightfoward. He is going out. It Saturday Night. Maybe he is going to get lucky. The whole being single excitement of going out thing. Tremendous pop song with a great beat with great lyrics. On a 100 to 0, this song is a 100. It has no flaws. What pop music is all about right here. |

| Michael Franks – Popsicle Toes Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
In October 2010 I am the first person to comment on one of the best lyricists of last century? Well let's get right to it. Pulchritude means physical beauty. Pentax is a reference to a camera. Birthday clothes = birthday suit = the nude The allegory goes from top down comparing a globe to a woman's body. North America = face BRAzil = breasts Panama = vagina Tierra del Fuegos = toes see saw = have sex |
