| Johnny Flynn – The Ghost of O'Donahue Lyrics | 15 years ago |

this is a glorious song. it's unfortunate that no one has really heard of it. i don't know if i'm reading this correctly because it doesn't seem to fit in so well with a couple of the verses, but i think it's just trying to say that life is fleeting, and all we are really ever going to do is scurry like ants across the earth's surface. the meaninglessness of this life could lend itself to a completely positive attitude toward living, or to an entirely nonchalant feeling. everything is constantly changing and growing, but it all happens on a calendar of dates, which remains constant. |

If people actually said sorry like this when they hurt each other, no one would ever be mad at anyone else. Solving the world's problems one at a time. |

| State Radio – Revolutionaries Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think that when he talks about fearing his own race, he isn't talking about fearing for his own sake, to save his own skin, but rather to fear the fact the someone who has had the same upbringing as him could be so cruel. | |
| The Decemberists – Here I Dreamt I Was an Architect Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
This song's lyrics put a ton of memories and images into my mind. The architect metaphor is exceedingly cutting. Beautiful. "And just to lay with you, there is nothing that I wouldn't do, save lay my rifle down" This line make me cry almost. It seems like an overarching comment on the triviality of war, and the futility of fighting.. or maybe that's just me projecting my views into this song. |

| State Radio – Calling All Crows Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I come from the land of the shaming Where the innocent are taken to the pavement Won't somebody just tell them Won't somebody oh, won't somebody oh oh oh oh oh... Won't you please look after my children Are the words from the mouths of the women Some are gettin' all the wood to get the fire laid, Some are picking up the pieces of their last days Wont somebody oh oh oh oh oh So we're calling all the crows They comin' up slow It's gonna be a showdown Said the rebel to the revolutionary come with me If you feel like you are witnessing a movement Then get up girl and let them know you're free I come from the land of the shaming Where the world is looking up you know it's changing Won't somebody just tell them Won't somebody oh, I want somebody oh, oh oh, oh, oh So we're calling all the crows They comin' up slow It's gonna be a showdown Said the rebel to the revolutionary come with me If you feel like you are witnessing a movement Then get up girl and let them know you're free Said the rebel to the rebel I will go if you come with me I'm tired of living in the fable A real sky I long to see The journey must continue, it does not start or end here For the river wide but with all of us we can reach from side to side and it is here that we must hold so dear We calling all the crows They comin' up slow It's gonna be a showdown Said the rebel to the revolutionary come with me And if you feel like you are witnessing a movement Then get up girl and let them know you're free It's just a murder of crows Comin' in slow It's gonna be a show down Said the rebel to the revolutionary follow me And if you feel like you are witnessing a movement Then get up girl and let them know you're free Get up girl and let them know you're free Got to get up girl and girl let them know you're free Lyrics in the CD case |

This has been my favorite State Radio song on and off, ever since I read the lyrics. What an insightful piece of art. |

| Billy Joel – The Longest Time Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This isn't one of those deep love songs where someone professes an undying love for another person, which I think is a refreshing change, because as most relationships do, this one is likely to come to an end soon enough... It is a pretty ideal way to view love, because this love is for the moment. It's terribly rare that love actually is everlasting. It would be okay for both parties if it came to an end, and they don't grow too dependent on one another. | |
| Billy Joel – Uptown Girl Lyrics | 16 years ago |

This song's story is so familiar in this society. Two people from totally different backgrounds fall in love, and aren't sure that their backgrounds will allow them to live in harmony with one another. It has such a beautiful tune. Really fun. |

| State Radio – Uncertain Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Protesting a war that affects the inhabitants of the country at war. The people's who live there are terribly scared of the future, and uncertain of what horror may befall them next. They have no quarrel with anyone, but they live in the center of a war, so they can't help but get involved. The war causes them to "[smuggle gasoline before they are of age]". They are pleading with the higher powers to stop, to "open your high road". I think the saddest thing is when he says, "some day we will be replaced by the guns of the sons and their fatherless rage". He is scared that the next generation and all generations thereafter will be just like them... fatherless, and full of unnecessary anger. |
