Joshua Radin – The Fear You Won't Fall Lyrics 15 years ago
i love this song and it's honesty.

i think it's about a guy being reluctant to enter a relationship because he's been hurt before. He doesn't want to be hurt again, so he takes it slow and tries not to show too much interest. but then the girl leaves and, although he didn't think he would miss her, he misses her more than he should. A situation I was recently in is exactly this.

I know you're scared,
That I'll soon be over it,
That's part of it all,
Part of the beauty,
Of falling in love with you,
Is the fear that you won't fall

that's my favorite part, i think it goes along with what i think the meaning of the song is. it is him expression his thoughts on the relationship- the girl's feelings are clear to him, she loves him, but he also knows she is afraid he won't fall in love with her. But he just says it is "part of the beauty", the fear of falling is normal in a relationship, and it's okay.

i think the first line reads "sittin on the sea"

i find it hard understanding what "the surprise" represents?
it is simply that he is waiting for her?

Marjorie Fair – Empty Room Lyrics 15 years ago
My second time reading through these lyrics, I view this song as a drug overdose waiting to happen.

I'm so tired of learning to talk
Building fences on the wall
In this state, I shall not remain
^this could mean that he is sick of talking to people about his drug problem, and also "building fences on the wall" which could mean staying isolated from others. He doesn't want to remain in this state because he is afraid.

I don't want to go, but if I die young
Fill my empty room with the sun
Fill my empty room with the sun
^I think this is saying he doesn't want to die, but if he happens to drug overdose he doesn't want people to mourn over his death. His "empty room" symbolizes the empty thoughts people will have about him after he dies, and he wants them to think pleasant things instead.

Change my mind or help me to try
Im afraid and I'm not satisfied
In this state I shall not remain
^Help me with my drug problem because I'm scared and I don't want to be doing this anymore.

Daylight is not the same
When your stabbing at the stars
In your eyes, and bleeding
Is what you see
^Drug users tend to remain inside for days, and if this song is about shooting up, "stabbing at the stars" can be about using needles, and bleeding afterwards.

Anyway, i absolutely love this song, one of my favorites.

hm. I agree with freejigsawearth, that this song could be about heroin.

this is my own take in it though-
i think in the beginning of the song the artist is trying to say i do what i like to do because i am me. i don't listen to what other's want me to be.

Then, in the second verse he is interested in a girl but she doesn't want to be with him because of certain qualities he holds. He is trying to tell her to be with him and embrace who he is because deep down they are meant to be together- "but feel me inside of you, Like you want it to"

i think the turning point in his mood is the very last lines. He is realizing that maybe he does have to change who is is in order to be happy.

That's just my take on it.
